She is very chill, and spends lots of time with her Homies. Playing games like GTA5 in English, bought HoloListen the Japanese to English learning book/bundle.

    I have a feeling the whole conversation between Henya and Mel wen't over peoples and Koe's heads.
    Listen guys! When Mel says "An erection", because she say's it so fast and without pause between "an" and "erection", to non native English speaking People, which includes Henya obviously, it sounds very much like she say's "interaction".
    What Henya hears sounds literally like something according to "annyrection" to be blunt, so when Henya proceeds to detangle those mashed up word sounds, "Interaction" is what sounds closest to what Mel is actually saying.
    The miscommunication problem is:
    For Mel:
    A: The missing short pause in-between "an" and "erection" in order for Henya to understand that those two words are separate.
    For Henya:
    B: The fact that she hears acoustically only one word of similar sound to "Interaction" and automatically assumes due to Mel's "dialect" or "accent" that the "T" in "Interaction" gets lost and becomes inaudible.
    Example:
    Standard English:
    The Intersection on the street.
    With an accent: (Let's say heavy "Texan" accent)
    The Innersection on the street.
    At least this is what initially lead to the miscommunication. Now Mel's explanation as to what "erect" or "to erect" means, with Henya still misunderstanding "an erection" as "interaction", causes only more confusion for the poor little oblivious Henya.
    It also doesn't help that there is that L and R issue (with R not really existing in some Asian languages), foremost in the Japanese language. That's the moment when "erection" becomes "election".
    EDIT: For Henya to understand double meaning: instead of momo, the best example would be "Kin" and "Kintama".
    For non aware foreigners: Kintama = Golden Balls.
    Pick up the golden balls in a game for bonus points (innocent right?).
    Contextual meaning = A man's jewels.
    Kick him in the kintama and it will hurt a lot.
    In general Kintama is almost always contextualized to describe that specific gender part, which is why it's almost taboo to ever use it to substitute the description of legitimate golden coloured or made of gold spherical (round) objects in a conversation (despite that being exactly what it means with "Kin" meaning Gold and "Tama" being round objects or shapes like balls or spheres).
    Moral of the Story: Beware of how fast you speak and be aware of your accent, because new words can become extremely hard to understand for non native English speakers and easily confused acoustically with similar sounding words or phrases

  • @Xanderj89
    @Xanderj89 2 месяца назад

    Erection is slang (or I guess innuendo?). It relies on inferring you mean raising something very specific, it’s not a separate definition per say

    • @HimmelsDaemon
      @HimmelsDaemon 2 месяца назад

      I think it would be a separate definition, because it's a context change and the meaning is the same proper meaning and not indirect or reference, nor subtle to be innuendo or euphemism. You're leaving off being specific with a defining adjective, it is otherwise the proper term. Could argue that defining adjective would be redundant, because of the rest of the sentence's context.
      That particular context is maybe the most popular use of the noun form of the word instead of the verb. The other terms Melody got into are euphemisms and innuendo, the term for Roosters.
      Using it as innuendo or euphemism would probably be actually referring to that specific male context in other contexts to make some implication beyond the literal meaning for other biological parts.
      The sentence structure of "have/has a" might be the slang/innuendo component, rather than the term itself.

    synonyms are very confusing,hell, theyre even confusing in your first language,specially when slang gets involved

    • @laurencefraser
      @laurencefraser Месяц назад

      The fun thing about English synonyms is that in school you're told that they 'mean the same thing'... and then usually left to figure out on your own that they actually only mean the same thing in the loosest sense because they either only share a meaning in one gramatical form (say, they both have verb forms that mean the same thing, but one of them has an adjective form but no noun form, and the other has a noun form but no adjective form, or they both have noun forms but while the Verbs mean the same thing, the nouns Really don't), or their meanings only Overlap rather than being identical, so they're synonomous in some contexts but not others, or they have wildly different connotations or implications that can make one perfectly reasonable and neutral while another comes off as threatening, or overly familiar, or implies something very unfortunate or unflattering about someone, etc. despite having the same Literal meaning.
      And yeah, that's before getting slang or the particularly obscure idioms involved.
      (oh, and people who get annoyed at how indirect some east asian langauages can be should stop and have a look at how people normally speak in English when they're not actively trying to be rude or clinical (at least when there's not a clear context making direct orders the expected interaction): Idiom and euphemism everywhere, talking around topics, it's almost always 'would you mind doing X please?' rather than 'please do X', and so on and so forth.)

  • @rickybell

    1:30... okayu explains it later but the idea is that hiccups come from your diaphragm spasming... so by filling your lungs with air and then constricting your stomach muscles you stop that spasming... it does work... i thought this was common knowledge thou...
    14:58... to erect... to build something up(contruction?)... this is the context that mel is using it right now...
    to erect... to stand up(s*xual)...
    brick up... something stop working or got damaged internally (in tech)...
    brick up... to get erected....(s*xual)...
    15:12... yes... in the terms of the meaning of the word erect... yeah... you erected yourself................. >_>.............

    • @laurencefraser
      @laurencefraser Месяц назад

      When you talk about a Person being erect it can mean that they are standing upright and with good posture, phrased in certain ways it can mean that they are a morally upstanding person, or... it can mean that they have an erection (in the 'human anatomy' sense). Now, it's very obvious when the intent is 'morally upstanding', but it's entirely possible to phrase things such that it is Very ambiguous as to which of the other two is the intended meaning, at least in the absence of appropriate context.
      I'm not entirely sure that the verb form of erect can actually be used reflexively like that ("you errected yourself"), or at least, it's not the normal phrasing... the more natural way of phrasing it is "you became erect"... exactly the same as if we were talking about the specific piece of anatomy rather than the whole body. There's a Reason people don't actually use this sense of the word much (well, that, and we have other phrasing that's just generally less of a pain even without the inuendo aspect).

      Sounded more like 'I could do the job myself... but there's kids who want money and are willing to do something useful to get it, and I have enough spare money to pay them an amount that's reasonable for doing this fairly simple job, so why not?'. And that's pretty common in lots of places, at least if you live somewhere where you can actually interact with the neighbourhood kids without it being a disaster.
