Such beautiful scenery. Most have been truly magical to experience. I hope to someday hike extensively in Europe. Until then I'll enjoy vicariously living through your videos. 🥰
Great video and love the music editing! No need for drone shots when the scenery is that magical! Those software shots are very cool too. Cheers from Canada.
Chase, this has quickly become one of my favorite hiking channels. Your trips, your reviews and also your training programs are incredibly helpful! So thanks for all the work you put in. I am super excited for you to do the HRP this year and cannot wait to see the videos you post. That little valley seemed like the perfect place to become a child again and play in the waterfall. Makes me want to do the HRP as well.
yes, finally someone on youtube tackling the HRP, so cool to see!! :) I did the basque section in 2018, got food poisoning and then finished it in 2019. by far the toughest hike I've done, even the couple of people I met who'd done some or all three of the big american trails agreed on that. it'll be cool to watch you hike it when I get back from my own summer hikes. feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions you feel like having someone else's perspective on :)
Enjoyed that vlog, perfect length and content. A good reconnaissance mission. Gives a short journey a reason for making the longer ones more enjoyable. That second coffee looked like the better one. I got a jetboil plunger for my 650 lixada works a treat. 🤙 Keep it weird. ✌
I prefer synthetic these days. Warmth is pretty good and less worry to look after. Some of the patagonia nano air puff poof techno smurf thingy looks pretty nice. My alpkit stuff has been good for the money but now I always look for a hood and chest pocket. Have fun. Thanks for vids.
16:30. . what an epic memory for the trip, just too good! thank you for making these videos! always so beautiful and interesting to see the similarities to the Sierra Nevada mountains that I hike. Bucket list hiking Pyrenees.

I did a shakedown hike in the Pyrenees as well over the weekend. Still a lot of snow in the shaded valleys. Forgot my micro spikes. Luckily I had waterproof pants with me so I just slid down the snow slopes. ☺️ If you are going to do the HRP, I would gladly hike out to meet up near the Port de Boet area as you approach.
I love your videos. You are not too far from where I live. I did half of the GR10 and half of the HRP to cross all the Pyrenees and I loved it as much as you do
What an amazing video, my friend! Nice mountain hiking! The nature is amazing.. Enjoyed watching. Cheers from Russia man, and welcome to my channel about bushcraft and adventures! Kind regards, Yuriy!
Great to see the growth in your editing! Well done! I used to do the tent and pad thing just like you, lightness but just too cramped and uncomfortable, now it is a 4" big but light inflatable mattress and a cheap but impressively light single wall A frame type tent. A good, cushy bug-less night sleep, getting dressed inside without yoga moves definitely makes the weight worth it for me but, I don't thru hike either. I just set a base camp deep in there near some epic ridge loops that have a cool summit or two along the way. . . I can't climb those ridges safely with a pack anyway. . . Makes wearing a solid arrouach shoe worth it too VS trail runners. Leaving the tent saves that damp or frozen pack up as well. . . Your map view is great, second only to a drone.
Great video Chase! I look forward to seeing your full video of the HRP. Once COVID is in the rear view mirror, you will have to come to western Canada and do the GDT (Great Divide Trail). :)
The scenery in the Pyrenees could be straight out of Lord of the Rings! Thank you for the tips and recommendations - I'll only add it's a good idea to hike with at least one other person, just in case of emergencies.
Very nice video Chase, I'm very happy to see you sporting a pair of "Altras" I love them myself. Rain jacket... I use a inov8 stormshell, very light and and comfortable and most of all very waterproof. Might be worth a look! Looking forward to watching your adventure unfold 👍🏼
Hey man, great video! All the best of luck for this summer's trip! Also: the coffee filter works great if you use a finer (Espresso) grind and pour proper slow for the first 10 sec or so, until the grounds have moisturized. Saw you figured out a way to use it at the end, but this might save you having to wash up your pot in the morning. :)
Cheers to your upcoming hike! I’ve got a recommendation for a rain shell to check out: mountain hardwear quasar. My large weighs 260 grams (runs large) while being a 3L gore-tex active material. Surprisingly bomber for how light it is, breathes surprisingly well too (I’ve done some hard runs in it during downpours). not the lightest for UL hiking - but I also enjoy mountaineering and skiing which this is good for as well. Not cheap, but I’m really enjoying. Happy trails!
Man, I need to get over to the Pyrenees sometime! I have the exact same Sea2Summit food bag--same color too! Never seen the need to carry anything heavier (mine weighs around 1 oz or 28 g). New subscriber!
Hey Chase. Quick recomendation: I got some running sleeves from decathlon and they are great. Some times I add compression socks as well. I find that they work really well as a modular system.
I did the exact same thing with my java drip! Haha started off pouring over the top and then switched to mixing it in the cup and pouring through the filter.
For a synthetic insulation jacket - i got a Haglofs V Series Mimic jacket and it has the best fit I've ever had on any puffy, it is light and it feels great even next to the skin which most puffies don't. Expensive af but i think it's worth it. Far better than that Patagonia Micro puff box/garbage bag fit 🤢.
sounds like fucking blast your upcoming Thru, im heading out to do swedish Kungsleden " Kings trail " this aug, its gone be a shakedown for my Appalachian trail Thru Hike Nobo attempt next Feb !! Keep it up dude and keep safe, and... you look just like Jorge Masvidal !! i could bet my dollar as it was him.... Best regards from Sweden, Peace out !

If you intend on using screw on gas canisters stove where will you resupply?
Bought the Keen Ridgeflex following your recent , great purchase. I gave a smile to myself when you said you were wearing altras, my brand also, I wear Altra Lone Peaks........
Another excellent video. I'm hoping to be on the GR11 this August but have a knee issue from a recent 100 miler that I did. Ironically I've been enjoying using your videos to fix the knee, so thank you for the information. My sports physio has identified a tight quad and by following the suggestions in your videos combined with his work, I'm seeing improvements, so thanks for the info you've shared. If you're on the HRP in August I hope to bump into you!!
I live just North of Lourdes and can see the Pyrenees from where I live. The first snows recently fell on the higher peaks and several areas are now under the new snow tyres/chains rules. I was thinking about how well barefoot shoes work in cold and icy/snowy conditions? Most people wouldn’t leave the car park without Goretex hiking boots.
Nice! I filmed this is spring and there was really very little snow. My shoes aren’t gore tex but by utilising a boot pack (trails of others in the snow) I was able to keep my feet dry. It’s going to be a different story in winter. But there’s plenty you can do in a shoe.
well i have to say that these arent just the french pyrenees , the firts peak you climbed it's called Puigpedros , i climbed some days ago and i remember the views , that mountain is in La Cerdanya and that belongs to catalonia (spain).
So gooood. Very jealous. What are the rules on this route regarding wild camping? I'm hoping to try and do some/all of it next year. Doing some Scottish trails this year.
Nice vídeo....I'm doing circuit around monte perdido this weekend..I see you struggled in trail shoes...what is the snow line at please?.....nice capoeira moves!!
Will be following this with interest as i havent been up there. I see the snow is going there .We had a little bit above 2500mtrs on Sunday here down on the Sierra Navada ( spain) but will be gone early this year . Hitting the tops tomorrow on the western end .
your shoes and your socks brought me to this video .....what are they ?.... and Hello from Canada Alberta... you don't know how jealous i am right now lol, but watching your video's have been so enjoyable , our first long weekend is coming up this weekend and planning a small few hour hiking trip, curious on the shoes and socks, i was planning on wearing sandals

Hey Chase - loving your Pyrenees vids lately, and have been using a lot of your training/maintenance vids as well. Q: Do you have a link to the wall charger you used on trail? I’m trying to plan a thru hike of the Pyrenees this Aug-Sep and I’m not familiar with the most common outlet style in France/Spain. I have a nice Anker 2 Port (North American outlet) that I’ve used forever, and have attached an adaptor to it on a bike trip in NZ. Do you recommend this approach for France/Spain, or just or a new charger? Cheers.

Here in Europe, backpackinglight.dk from Sweden sells those foam pads (Sarek Eva pad 3mm). They do make a difference in that situation, or as anti-slide under inflatable pads.
Ah, I see I was wrong to think you'd be heading to corse to do the GR20 :D Looks solid mate. Wish you a great time on the trail, looking forward to see what you think about it! PS: playing around in a beautiful campspot like that is my ultimate way to make that spot "mine", haha :D just feels like home like that.
I really enjoy this kind of aesthetic content Chase ;-) Think you really should check out the 'Versalite' jacket from Montbell, it's extremely lightweight at only 180g and just a great jacket for its price.
Great Video! Have you checked out the Decathlon Trailrunning rainjacket? I just got it and it seems to be in the weight range your aming for. Also it is pretty affordable. Cheers from Germany
Wow Chase ! This was such a wonderful video, so pleasant ! Well made... But what software are you using for the 3D visualisation at the beginning of the video ? Outdoor active with PRO+ subscription ? By the way what do you think about your Faircap water filter ? Is it efficient ?
Thanks for the videos - great content. What valley are you in here? The one with the waterfall. I live in Valencia and am heading up to the Pyrenees this summer with my 12-year old and her friend for a trek. Looks like good terrain for us. Cheers.
This is called happiness...
Can't wait for an in depth review of those Altra Olympus! Hopefully they work well for your trip.
Thanks for posting Chase, I'm looking forward to your crossing of the HRP. Good luck.
