Very exciting Mike, looking forward to the next chapter already. Hopefully someone has some steel plate hanging around, like you say the new stuff is very expensive. 🤞👍🤗😊
Mike...Wagner deck sprayer. 60 bucks at the walmart. Won't produce auto body shine quality but it works good for "gets it covered for function." 110 power is all you need.
I’ve said it 1000 times. Runs is a sign of a great painter. It shows the painter is trying to put on a good amount of paint and not being cheap. Captain understood the assignment
Nice start on the repairs/upgrades to the 555 you have a working machine that is just going to get better! I have used gallons of POR15 on restoration projects, and you will have to film getting the lid off that can the second time, it will be welded on if you did not put plastic in between.
The best thanks you can give is to keep on being you and making good content using the K.I.S.S. concept. And thank you for the quality content you provide.
Black is the new yellow!!! You were impressed by the coverage of the POR 15, obviously worth the expense!!! Quick attach will make the 555 even more versatile, you had fun removing the bucket pins..... 😬💪😁 Surprised the front end is only bolted on, I presume this is to allow the machine to twist. By adding the plates to it, this will prevent excessive movement 👍💪
I really like the beam to help guide the 10 pounder to the pin. That is a good idea. Wheel Chock would help in an elevated tire and getting a last Nut taken out.
Hey Mike, is there anything you don’t do well ? ( I won’t ask Mrs Kleeman 😂🤣😂 ) the backhoe is gonna be a fine piece of equipment by the time you’ve finished ( excellent project ) 👍 I think you’re way cleverer and more competent than you realise, you thoroughly deserve all of your successes. Excellent as always , best wishes to you and yours, from Britain 👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧
New to this channel and have thoroughly enjoyed watching this 555 playlist... mainly because I have one. As for the weld on the front end, its a mistake... common though. These 4 bolts are designed with play for a reason. Given the age of this machine, it is probably moot... but still, it should be able to move at this joint. Not sloppy, but move nonetheless.
A Captain video AND a Dirt Perfect video on the same day!! The world is a better place!! Great video Mike and as always thank you for bringing us along on your adventure!!!!
Had it been anyone else,, they might of just walked away from this project. I bet it went through your head how much warmer this metal is than the first time you removed it. Great work Mike and with ya all the way
That rust paint is really good. It binds to the rust by stealing the oxygen atoms meaning the rusting stops. For a guy who is making it up as you go along you sure do a great job of whatever you try.
Having spent time restoring old cars and trucks, I can tell from experience the POR15 is the best for rust. It actually chemically changes rust to primer. But do remember, POR15 has no UV protection, so it will fade quickly without some type of top coat. Also, be careful not to sand through it when you’re preparing to paint. I know it’s supposed to be yellow, but I’ve gotta say the black give the ol’ 555 a tough and menacing look. I like it!
I was surprised that the pins on the front bucket came out as easy as they did. One thing is for sure, I would make sure that all of the pins are the right strength of metal. Rust proofing and painting will definitely prolong the life of the backhoe. And strengthening the weak points of the frame will certainly prevent a catastrophic failure. I can only imagine the carnage of the front section broke off. One thing is for sure, it will be nice to see if operating with all of the counterweights so it's not doing a ballet dance all the time!
“Best way to keep those grease zerks fresh is to cover them with paint.” I think the guy I bought my first mower from learned the same method! Nice work, as always, Cap’n. Definitely makes me want to find someone that wants to get rid of a backhoe in my area.
I enjoy watching Clinton and his guys, but I appreciate your ingenuity to get things done. Glad im a subscriber. I feel like I'm helping get all your projects done. Thanks for giving me content.
When I'm having a crappy day and you drop a video I have no choice but to improve my attitude, your constant happy attitude no matter what is infectious. Btw tractor is looking good.
This brings back memories, I use to and love to do that type of work for a living. Portable line boring and in place machining were among some of the other things I liked doing. You are doing a great job there young man, the ole triple nickel will be as solid as a tank when your done sir. Going to really enjoy this segment, have fun with it, thanks.
If you're looking for a highly affordable upgrade for the bucket pins Capt. you can pick up some large hitch pins that fit the holes. They're not quite as hard as actual pins, but they are stronger and harder than the mild steel round stock that came in there. Nice to see progress on the ol girl and some much needed and deserved love. Keep up the great work, and look forward to the next one 😁👍
nice start on the rust and paint. I like the idea on braking up the colors. nice size fish plate should hold well. have a good day there bud. cheers captain.
I think the breaker bar is almost ready for retirement. :) It is going to be interesting on how you will attach the reinforcement steel, since there is an uneven surface at the front. Thank you and have a good week.
If you know someone who is a lineman for the power company, ask him so save some wire for you. Typically they cut off a foot or more when installing a new line or making a repair. It goes to scrap. The aluminum wire is spiraled but can easily be pounded flat after separating the strand. The wire is the right diameter for making pins. I use them to mark rows in my garden with some surveyors tape and also for bird nesting boxes to hold the door closed. They have other uses as well. Gold if you can get your hands on some. Very similar to the pins you make.
once you open the can or POR15 you pretty much have to use the whole thing. it will dry up in the can faster than you think. Something about exposing it to air makes it dry out fast. Mine did at least.
I’m with you on the framing plates upgrade, that will make it much stronger, and more reliable, also your gonna have that tractor looking new again, great job Mike
Smart thinking to add that steel to the inside where it can't mess with the aerodynamics which would in turn hurt the fuel economy. Your so smart, keep up the good work😊
Mike, it seems to make sense for you to extend the frame now so you can sandwich between the counterweights and the tractor. You are preventing future problems with the back breaking off in the middle of a job and giving much needed frame reenforcement. Blessings to you.
Hi Mike. One nice thing about painting with a brush and a roller is that there's not a bunch of overspray going places you don't want painted. That POR15 leaves a nice finish but it is pricey. I'm not a expert but those first pins you drove out of the front bucket sure didn't look like any grease was getting to them. Thanks for the video!
The sound of my childhood, a Ford 3-cylinder chugging away. Grew up on an nature reserve, and they had a few small Fords (3000, 3910, 3930). All the same engine as the 555.

Prob should grind a deep V in the crack and weld her up good before it snaps off? (Yeah! More content!) And YES, that POR-15 is expensive as Gold Ingots, but it's worth it, I use it on all kind of stuff and it'll never rust there again, but you HAVE TO put a top coat on it or it'll go Chalky and flat from the sun inside of 3-4 months - I always buy it at NAPA or Autozone and it's typically like $67/qt - but man is it good shit
