If you would ask the very nice man of the house if he would put a bolt though the top legs of the roost it would let you raise the roost off of the floor making it much easier to clean the floor. Have a great day and God bless all of you

I heard washed contractor sand is supposed to be the best thing to use in a chicken coop it lasts a lot longer and all you got to do is poop or scoop all the little turds out of there in the wet spots like you would do for cat box
You still not have to change it as often is it doesn't work like the wood chips and stuff like that all you got to do is take like a pooper scooper or rake it out it lasts a lot longer and it doesn't give you the smell l
Consider installing a very simple hook and eye lock to the outside of the human door. That way when you clean out the hen house, you can easily lock the door open. With summer coming on, a ceiling fan might be wise to install for summer heat also.

When Dutch dumps the bucket, make sure he turns the compost pile. It helps to break it down faster. Lime in the chicken house and on the compost will keep the smell down.
Hope works Really well. It looks like she helps You all a lot. There is a Shop push broom that would work Better sweeping out the Coop even though you might half to rinse it out after you use it .
There was 6 kids in our family. My Mom, when we turned 5 she would take one kid at a time for coffee, hot chocolate and a donut, it was our one-on-one time. This started in the 50's. ❤
Cleaning chicken coops is not the most pleasant job. I remember having to help do it twice a year as a kid. But it was so nice when the fresh pine saw dust was laid down. Living in Montana, we did a deep litter method in our coop. Kept the coop warm in the winter and made good compost for the garden. 💖💖💖
It would be easier to clean out the coop if the roosting rack had a hinge on both side supports with a lock and a pivot on the top of each. That way, you could unlock the hinges, pull the roost from the bottom and the roost would collapse against the wall. At that point, fold the bottom of the roost up and hook it in place. Then, you would be able to clean the floor without having to work around the roost. I may not be explaining this clearly, but it would be something like the pull down attic stairs we had when I was a child.

I wore a bandana & safety glasses, looked like a racoon when we got done. 👍 my grandparents coop had a dirt floor, we used rakes, silage fork &a scoop shovel. N. of Pryor, just outside of Adair
Nice hen house. I'm 74 come June and have arthritis pretty bad. So I've decided to clean under the roost first then rake the used shavings under it so I won't have to much to get out. That is where the most poop piles up. Hope that makes sense. So nice there are two to do the job. Hope needs a pocket knife.

My husband got him a puppy. Tsetse is a Boston Terrier and she's all about daddy. So I'm lonely. I lost my dear Molly, our beloved Papillion rescue that was a momma's girl, but love both of us equally. When we got together Bill had a cat that had adopted him, Mama Kitty. And I had a rescue chi/cairn terrier mix named Kitty that was the loves of our lives. Kitty had been through so much with me. I'll never stop missing them. I'm not in good health and disabled. So I can't take care of an animal. I'd really like to at least get a Guiney pig! Seriously. I'm just lost without something to love. I got my Teddy Bear and Boy Bear in my bed with me. They are good company and they don't potty...very good things about them. Have you ever read The Velveteen Rabbit book? If not, get your girls, snuggle up in bed and read that to them. Everyone should read this and more than once. It's not just for little kids, trust me on this.

I have a suggestion. If you could hinge those roosting boards at the top then put a couple hooks in the ceiling then you could raise the roosts while you clean then put them back down when you are finished.

Brandy put a piece of Linoleum down on the floor then the shavings. Then when it comes to cleaning time all you need is a broom. The linoleum will also keep the floor drive and clean of poo so it will last longer.
Brandi that job would be easier if the roost was fastened to the wall with hinged bolts through it at the top. With a wire or small chain to tie it up. That way you could go in and scrape it all to the doo and then shovel it into the machine bucket.
If you take some baby oil or mineral oil about 3 tablespoons and water.in a spray bottle. Spray it on the main and tale and it will take out tangles,burs and stickers out of the horses hair.
Hope might have to wear gloves to gather the eggs. Brandi and Hope did a great job cleaning out the coop. Get a short width of a push broom just for the coop.less picking up poo,just push it out the door

And now I do that with my granddaughters ❤when my daughter was little she was in elementary school I worked a lot and I had read in a woman’s day magazine ( no internet yet) I seen an idea about picking her up early out of school and going shopping with her❤ it made her feel special and it made me happy that I could do that I think we even went to the Dairy Queen

Nice work Hope when you get older you will be thankful that your parents taught you to work hard and do a good job . I was a Tech Float in the ER , Med,/Surg. and other departments for 15 years ( retired ) and know good CNA's and Nurses are worth their weight in Gold . I think Hope would make a great Doctor or Head Emergency RN you seem real smart and hard working . I'm sure your other girls are smart and dedicated as well , I just don't see them as much. If you put some vinyl rug remnants on that floor, it would be easier to clean. You used to be able to get them at HOME DEPOT OR LOWES.

Maybe the roost could have hinges put on it so it be lifted up to the ceiling to be able to out a lot easier to clean up.
I just thought of a idea. If Dutch put a hinge at the top of that roosting bars and a string at the bottom to pull it up when need to clean.

Could you use a Shop Vac to clean out that coop? Empty it into the bucket on the Bobcat. Sounds like it would be easier but hey, I'm a city girl! 😂

I still think the cleanup would be a lot easier with linoleum covering the plywood. The droppings will soak into the plywood...
