- Episode 33. This scotch is a favourite of many, and an easy pour at a gathering. It has been out for some time, but I thought it would be a good #scotchsunday pick. An expression I like and a bottle I have had open for a little while! What have been your experiences with this bottle over the years? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour
Was thinking of picking up a bottle of this when I next go shopping. A 4.5 star rating from you puts it high up on the list, cheers!
This the old me scale. Still awesome, but now 4.25 tops.
Balvenie rum 14 is immense, lovely finish but caramel coloured
I am sad they chose to colour this I still enjoy it deeply.
Whisky Neighbour without doubt any balvenie core range is superb
Bananas foster with cayenne pepper.
Ok. interesting notes!
Nice review! When I first tried this, the toffee taste was overpowering. My bottle is now about half full and it has become much more enjoyable to drink.
Well that's moving in the right direction! I love it when open bottles become better, not just a shadow of themselves. I had that with a special bottling of a 12 year Caol Ila. When I finished it off it was a dream!
Some pineapple nose in the background coming thru for me.
Good note. It has been some time, but I hope to revisit soon.
This is one very solid and enjoyable, although a bit pricey in BC, dram...
Just cleaning up old comments. Thanks for dropping in!
For a bourbon newbie wanting to try scotch, what’s a few recommendations sir?
As always, just personal preference, however, I would consider a few that have some familiar fresh oak or sweet vanilla notes. Deanston Virgin Oak, Glenfiddich 14 Bourbon Barrel could be a great place to start.
@@WhiskyNeighbour would the Balvenie Doublewood be a little too much to start with you think?
@@charlescollins8385 that would be great. A little more than these, but a quality dram for sure!
Great review - it’s a fantastic Balvenie for sure. I hear casks soak up 8 litres - perhaps there’s not much left after the seasoning! Great tropical fruits as you said. Might have to pour a little from my dwindling bottle later.
Love the music, too.
Cheers🥃🥃🥃

Thanks Mark. It is a treasure, enjoy. Also .... loved the pyjamas!! (Snowmen in Seoul)
Awesome Review John! I loved this bottle when I first started into single malt. I have had bottles of this that I loved and bottles that are just "ok"....... I feel like it has some serious batch variation. Cheers John!
Thanks Keith!
Why couldn't those wine stopper/vacuums work with spirits?
Maybe they would. I have not tried one on a bottle.
Id really like to try this but as Peter said its just way too expensive, runs to $125 NZD here! Nice review Jon thanks.
Just cleaning up old comments. Thanks for dropping in!
Nice review neighbor...i have yet to try this one, but i do love the Doublewood 12..may have to add this to the shelf !..
Just cleaning up old comments. Thanks for dropping in!
I tried this expression when it first arrived on shelves oh let's say 8ish years ago. To me the rum overwhelmed the delicate aged spirit underneath. I didn't care for it. Maybe I need to revisit it. Thanks.
Maybe see if you can find a dram somewhere first. Prices have really gone up, and if it does not agree with you, it's tough to have a whole bottle!
Nice review! cannot wait to try any of the Balvenie whisky
Whisky Impressions if you enjoy more delicate expressions, I would recommend it. The 12 Double is a great place to start.
Hi I've been looking at this but it's £50 here in England. That works out about 80 Canadian dollars. I do like rum so may get it one day.
Well .... you've just heard my thoughts. I think it's a delight and probably worth $80 CND, but at that price I know there are lots of worthy bottles and it would take me a while to decide :)
Whisky Neighbour yeah I keep finding others I want to try my list is getting very long. If I see it in my local store I might get it as I haven't tried any Balvenie.
excellent review John
Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Another great video
Thanks. Have you tried this bottle?
Have not picked this one (or any Balvenie SM) up since the LCBO inexplicably raised the price of all Balvenie's to the astronomical range. This one is $140.00 which of course is ridiculous. Probably should gas this bottle after a few months due to it's low ABV.
Excellent review
Thanks Peter. You are totally right, that price is ridiculous! I can still pick this up for $79.99 at Superstore here, but it is just over $100 in most stores now. Great tip with gas and then seal it. Too late for this particular bottle I'm afraid, but a great idea for others. I have only owned the 12 Double and this bottle, but I went to a tasting event and tried out more from their range. Good stuff, and if you ever see a sale, I think it would be worth it. Take care.
I had the 12 year single barrel for about 2 years and it was excellent right up until I finished the last decanted pour. The 48.7 ABV helped probably but I may have gassed it at 1 point, cannot remember.
The 15 Year Sherry Cask, although pricey when I bought it was my favorite. Of course it's $280 or so now so I have moved on from Balvenie in Ontario.
Geez Peter those prices are insane even for LCBO.
Their Ardbeg prices are even worse. Most of my purchases now are from Alberta and Nova Scotia. Even with shipping most are still 40-50% cheaper plus better selection.
Normal price here in PA USD$80, sale for $70. And our prices suck.
