Are there garbage disposers that automatically turn on if detected food when connected to a dishwasher? Or do most disposers have to be turned on with a switch with a continuous model?

@Raymond Pineda. They are all controlled with some type of switch mechanism for safety purposes. Batch feed units require you to put the cap on the opening and twist, and continuous feed models work off a wall or air switch. That would be a huge safety issue. You often have to reach down into them to pull out silverware of items that fell down into them by accident. You wouldn’t want it to automatically start chopping up your fingers!

@@Pythonzzz If you get one that can plug into a wall socket that becomes a lot less of a risk. That is because you can tell it is disconnected. Still be careful. I don't know if they still wire sockets under the sink for that purpose but it is just a standard socket. Really that is the best way to wire them in my opinion since you can disconnect it and not have to double check everything. It would also be one of the sockets in the house with the least wear considering the odd place it would be in.
