What type of wood do you use for this? I tried buying a dowel rod and use a hammer and chisel on it, and it splintered all over the place. It took about 15-20 whacks, rather than the 3-4 used in the video. Is there a specific type of chisel needed?
@@anthemcreations3523 the above comments is wrong i beleve. The wood 🪵 is parallel to the lathe, as if the tree was growing horizontal or left to right on the lathe. It is green wood, or fresh and they soak the logs in a pool so they don't dry out. He is using several different turning tools, hook blades, and scrappers. After he completes the ring or tire, he uses a cleaver to split the animals out. He splits them in the same orentation you would split fire wood. Reifendreher translates to tire spinner. I turn wood and am very interested in Reifendreher and will be trying it very soon, after I have completed all my research on tools, technology and techniques. Very difficult to find any indepth info.
