I’m looking to replace the old ones on my Ernieball OLP 4-string passive bass guitar but I can’t tell which type of potentiometer is suitable as I can’t find the spec. How will I know where the wires go to the volume pot on my bass guitar if it is missing the original pot? anyone know? also what ohms should the replacement pot should be?Thank you for any help you can provide.

Thanks for the comment." Probably" I think is the answer. If the current configuration is just a selector switch that choses between 2 pickups, then a blend pot could be used instead. Choosing the correct value of pot maybe difficult and the tone may be affected, by that I mean that even if you successfully added a pot and it worked, turning all the way to 1 pickup may sound different to the original selector switch, as the introduction of a pot may affect the overall tone. If you are up for some experimentation then it may be worth just wiring one in to see what happens. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hi...my tone know is kind of a bit loose and scratchy. But there is no screw on the side to take it off. You did not show how you managed to take off the knobs. Any advice on how to take off the tone knob?
Hello Wes, if there is no sign of a screw, than the knobs are push fit. They can be quite stiff though, but will pull off. I would recommend protecting the area just under the knob, in case you end up prying against the body.

It's a ground wire. Is there no sound at all? If so it is probably one of the wires. Check if any are loose or detached. Then solder them back on. If you think one is broken inside and you haven't got a meter to test them, you could just try to replace it anyway.
Paul, how do i figure out the size of a hex nut for a pot? I lost a pot nut on my yamaha bass and im having trouble figuring out the size of the hex nut. It measures 12 mm max, 10 mm min, hole is around 7 mm and height is around 1.5 mm.
Hello there. I think that is a little tricky. I've not seen spare nuts for sale. You may be able to get one by buying a cheap pot with the same diameter shaft. In the UK RS components or farnel. Element 14 in America . Hope that helps.

So in effect it makes the variable resistor into a tone control by taking the high frequencies and reducing them, giving a less treble sound.

It's hard to say.... Best thing to do is try it. How it reacts to different pickups and electronics I believe will be different from bass to bass.

Those types of capacitors are monolithic. They have no polarity. Doesn't matter which leg goes where.

Ceramic caps are not polarized...

Why did you add the capacitors? I have a SGr505. The model that came out before the active/passive switch.
