    Perfekt System and boat

    A far more efficient propulsion system for this and for any other yacht or ship is the Centrifugal Propeller. No external propeller, thrust is created in a completely closed unit with no external vents and no external moving parts. It is waaaay faster and it is only a matter of time until all ships and yachts use it.

    Hybrid is the way to go, once you get used to a quiet drive, there's no going back and with hydrogen replacing diesel eventually the future is now cast.

    this solution needs to be trialled on a 25-30m displacement only yacht. this could be a game changer. i assume the classification groups have rules in place to accommodate this type of installation.

    il video in italiano?

  • @rainerzufall689
    @rainerzufall689 8 лет назад +2

    Wenn running at displacement speeds the consumption maybe somewhat acceptable but that is nonsense because the hull is not optimized for displacement. At planing speed it is even more heavy than a conventional yacht and thus a waste. The concept is good but can only makes sense in a displacement yacht.

    Penso che quelli di the boat show abbiano fatto 2 calcoli sulle views e siano giunti alla conclusione che gli convenga caricare per primi i video in inglese. Solo che sono passati già 6 giorni e non si è vista la versione in Italiano, non vorrei che questo significasse l'abbandono dei video nella nostra lingua, anche perchè ci vuole così poco visto che il video di base è registrato in italiano.
    Per il resto bravissimo Maurizio e ottima recensione dove giustamente ci si sofferma di più sulla caratteristica particolare di questa imbarcazione

    Are solar panels not cost effective? I just wonder why I don't see any on the hybrid type yachts.

    • @aquaticthumb5193
      @aquaticthumb5193 7 лет назад +1

      I have asked myself the same question. Possibility the fact that a solar array would weight a lot if sized large. Im thinking if it could charge in a weak enough to travel around 10 miles it would work great for island hoping. In the Bamahas islands are close to each other .6kw weights about 1000lb plus batterys tropical sun hours are high. you might be looking at 40-50 kw stored a day. He stated 150kw storage will go 9 hr.s at 9 mph 81 miles total. How much the house uses I dont know. I think his numbers are misquoated. 180 hp x 2 x 750w per hp. = 270 kw per hr.. at 9 mph. 18 mile range 540 kw in lithium (100kw costs 30,000$)200.000$ battery cost . battery charge time 11 days. Diesel 100 gallon cost say 400$. Thats 500 weeks say 10 years. To recover cost.

      There is an e-Catamaran MY that uses lots of solar panels stretched across the broad beam hard-tops. Solar panels at 500W each cannot generate much propulsion power, 20 panels, 10KW, is only a 130HP diesel motor. Solar at this point is best used to replace generator power needs. There is one large MY that has a couple of 500HP diesel engines mounted in the bow which provide electrical power to a couple of 500HP electric motors on pods in the back. The advantage is that the motor noise is separated from the living areas and the long shafts are not needed. I would expect to see more of this employed in the future, maybe even in retrofits. My idea refit would be an old Hatteras MY with dual engine rooms with the burnt out engines replaced by 2 large generators, electric motors on the shafts, and a lot of battery storage as well as a number of solar panels. One could run engines off generator(s) during day while charging batteries and then run silent at night off electric motors and house electric using batteries. Maneuvering would be awesome with fine control.

    I'd be scared of the Li-Ion batteries as a fire hazard.....battery technology of this type for marine use is still in a very early stages.

      Typically, Yachts of this size like this might travel with a personal engineer. There's always a engineer room. Thats why cost of operation/ownership is expensive. Staffing
