  • This is a demo of the Murgetroid 3, the new HEX base and new Infinity HEX. I added a little Easter content to the show.
The Murgetroid consists of four BTF-LIGHTING WS2812B 22x22 full color LED panels, that rotate at ~330 RPM. Two panels on each side are mounted back to back. This gives the illusion of single LEDs suspended in space. When rotated, persistence of vision renders these LEDs as 3 dimensional. I programmed the control and shows with an ESP32 micro processor with C code using the Arduino environment.
I also developed a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to take control of the Murgetroid, using Bluetooth connected to an Android tablet. Once in control you can very easily create shows of your own. I designed the GUI so anyone pushing a button will generate a change in the display. New displays can be further modified and ultimately saved. Save up to 5 new images and push the PLAY SAVES switch and your master pieces are woven into a show. They are also used in the main pre-programmed show.
I have also developed software tools to allow me to generate images on my computer (using, for example MicroSoft paint) which I can then import into the Murgetroid.... to be displayed.
I have also developed software, and a separate GUI, to control a 2nd ESP32 micro processor located in the base. This micro processor monitors sensors able to detect and react to:
    1. excess vibration
    2. motor over temperature
    3. RPM too SLOW
    4. RPM too FAST
    5. 12V power supply fault
If a FAULT is detected, the Murgetroid is shut down. The 2nd GUI allows me control of the power to the Murgetroid and motor. I'm also able to monitor the current RPM, motor temperature, 12V supply voltage and vibration.
The intent of this channel is to show people how to build a Murgetroid. The Murgetroid has evolved significantly from its first inception a few years ago. I'm now up to what I call my 3rd major revision...the Murgetroid 3. Work continues though, and the Murgetroid is further evolving. This channel will show its evolution. As such, anyone desiring to build their own Murgetroid is advised to watch all my videos. The Murgetroid is as much a software creation, as it is a physical creation. Please contact me directly if you would like the latest Arduino ESP32 code or to discuss any aspect of the Murgetroid. I'm happy to share all that I know and have learned.
Thank you for your interest in a passion of mine.... Murgetroid !
I would also like to thank my friend Keith Moeller for his suggestions and great help in building the Murgetroid mechanics.
