      @@juri101 In the show they don't deal with this nonsense. "When" effects activate after the other BS resolves, unless they are negated, no "but you miss the timing". Simple, intuitive, maybe that's why yugioh is so popular there (aside for the holograms ofc).

    Also I think the fact Marcello didn't think of that play is just simply due to stress and the fact yugioh have so many intricate rulings it's almost impossible to not mess up in a game here and there. Just unfortunately for Marcello he messed up in the semi finals of the world championships.

      The reason that the people who play at that level are up there is because they don’t make mistakes as often as everyone else. But they’re still human. I feel for Marcello because I make mistakes like this all the time

      *(Burning abyss, phantom knights VS Dinosaur)*i remember this one time when a guy was wrapped up in texting someone while we where playing, and it got to the point where he asked me what Miscilaneousaurus did for the fifth time. And when he went into Beatrice, lady of the burning abyss, i warning'd it and he made pilgrim. Then he activated the FogBlade he had set from last turn, but due to Miscilaneousaurus, i said that it wouldn't have any effect, and he tried to take back the play, i had enough of him asking the same thing 5 times in a row because he was ignoring me, so i made him commit to the play. After i won some random guy at the end of the table said that if i were his opponent, he would, "DQ you," and that i shouldn't make people commit to their plays, cause that's an illegal thing to do in Yugioh. Got sick of that locals, some of the shittiest people i've ever met, yet some of them are the best i've ever met.

  • @Avarn388
    @Avarn388 7 лет назад +50

    And THIS is precisely why every player should read the rule book and go over the basics of the rules and PSCT. I mean to be fair, this is a very nuanced rule. The Damage step is one of those things that can be really confusing. Especially, all the sub-steps within it. But as Cimooo masterfully demonstrated, understanding this step and everything else can mean the difference between winning or losing.

    This is why this is NOT a children's card game. All these rules like "missing the timing", all the steps in 1 freaking attack, etc.
    This game is way too complicated than it has to be...

    • @tafferinthedark
      @tafferinthedark 7 лет назад +46

      It's not "too complicated". It's one of those "easy to play, hard to master" things. Kids can perfectly duke it out with one another without getting into these situations. There's a noticeable gap between bad players and good players though.

    • @Marcusjnmc
      @Marcusjnmc 7 лет назад +9

      the complicated aspect of the game is a fantastic aspect of the game imo, you can't just play for a week & be great at the game like with pokemon, though tbf pokemon tends to have more to it in the deckbuilding side

    Important question: based on your video is this scenario the same as apocalypse described in the video?
    drident with 2 whiptails attack an indestructable crystal wing. The 2 whiptails trigger in the damage step as cl1 and cl2. The crystal wing then negates and destroyes as cl3. Since the destruction resolves first being cl3 and the monster count changed, online it states that in that case the attack fizzles similar to apocalypse. So, does crystal wing get banished?

    Duel Links makes a lot of these more nuanced interactions a lot easier to digest and understand, because the system has auto triggers and messages for toggling and whatnot, forcing you to venture into the internet to figure out why you got clapped. I'm a noob and have absorbed a fair amount of high level knowledge just from the system helping me out.
    In particular I know all about this interaction thanks to World Legacy Clash being abused for this exact reason.

  • @GroundThing

    This got recommended to me by nearly some divine providence: I'd been playing an old DS game for fun, with a Glad Beast deck. Because of a shitty starting hand, and some necessary, but painful Solemn Judgements, we were both down pretty low on life points. My opponent had a Reflect Bounder out and I had a Murmillo. I attacked in, used Gladiator War Chariot to negate the Reflect Bounder effect and destroyed it, saving me from dying, but because Reflect Bounder activated in the damage step, I couldn't attack in for lethal. I still won, because, since the battle had gone to the damage step I was able to tag out, make a Gyzarus the next turn and win, but because I didn't know the damage step rules I didn't realize I'd be giving the opponent another draw phase.

    Playing Superheavy Samurais (as casual as that sounds) I have a lot of cards that alter the Defence stat of my monsters and a fair few effects that can go off in the battle step and the damage step and some that only go off during the damage step and these effects can't be chained so i need to know the difference of which order to activate some and when or sometimes just know when to equip them.
    For a deck people look down on it requires you to know a lot of intricate rulings and phase mechanics

    Damn good vid dude. Right before you even say it, I just figured it out myself. This'll be useful to remember.

    So let me get this straight. Every battle in the Battle Phase works like this...
    1. Monster declares attack - Cards like Mirror Force and Kuriboh can be activated at this time
    2. Battle Step - any allowed replays occur
    3. Damage Step - damage is calculated, then monsters are destroyed
    If that's the case, can cards like Rope of Light and Michizure be activated at the end of or after the Damage Step?

    I caught on to this as soon as I saw he flipped it face up and it baffled me how a "professional player" didn't see it instantly. I play casually and even I noticed it. I made sure I took the time to figure out chain links and a bunch of really small mechanics such as this one. But I probably would have forgot if I was under that much pressure as well

    I haven't played competitive in like 10 years and assumed this was common knowledge. That is why stuff like shrink was good back in the day, there was a lot less chance to counter it than a typical card like mirror force.

    I can imagine a meme where cimo as morpheus shows this to Marcelo as neo, and Marcelo is like "you meant to tell me that this is not a children's card game?"

    Correct me if i‘m wrong, but with Miscellaneousaurus, True Draco Apocalypse should‘t had an Effekt on the Dinos.

      That's during main phase only

    Checking this after the Chijeratech Limiter Removal. Seeing this replay, had the Dino player banished Misc to summon any random level 1 Dinosaur, then linked it away, he'd have a third monster to activate UCT with and remove any chances of True Draco Apocalypse doing anything.

    You can also activate a counter trap during the damage step, I used to use gb war chariot to negate honest back in that format. Don’t know if it’s still like that though.

    Pretty good video. Something that is food for thought. On the flip side of this discussion, this honestly proves how convoluted and poorly designed the damage step is in terms of game mechanics. Konami really needs to consider fixing the damage step and make it more clear on how damage step functions.
