I've seen Lisa a few times live. She's a beast live. This tiny woman holding a whole audience rapt and captive. Breathless at times. And she chats in between songs and she's just a pleasure to listen too. And she talks about love and she'll go 'its important you know. Love. ' and you're heart rises. I saw her in London and I sat next to this young couple and the lass was sat next to me and she never took her eyes off Lisa for the gig. And when it finished I swear to god she shook her head like she was coming out of a trance. THAT'S how good Lisa O'Neil is live.
As a big Sinead fan, as well as a fan of the contemporary "progressive" trad music scene in Ireland, I was wondering what some of the leading lights of the latter, like Lisa, felt about Sinead's music. Beautiful answer.
Sinéad Ní Conchobhair's early music is good. I rather Lisa Ní Néill's music. She has a unique voice that sets her apart from the rest. Radie Peat is another excellent singer.
Excellent question, and I think you are referring to Sinead O'Connor here. I dont think I have heard either Lisa O'Neill or Sinead O'Connor give perspectives on their predecessors, contemporaries, or future generations of music,
Heard a man singing Bobby D while he worked away about an hour ago, led to a great conversation about your work but neither of us could remember which Sinead O'Connor song you covered. How could we forget? Hope to see you playing live again soon.
I love the fact that you have depth, there is substance in your work, if you know what I mean. I like some of kylie Minogue’s stuff, I even like one or two of Madonna’s pieces, albums are even fun, but then there is fun, and there is one’s sad reality, ie, it is one serious sad fucked up world that we live in and material girl and timebomb are a short fix, fantasy, on the most part - for the masses, trapped in solicitude, or rather, seemingly, modern day slavery, and your pieces just aid a little more in giving one hope, and quietening the heart. Sad, that we have come to such a low place as to call such artistic and societal depth. Forgive the spelling, I hate phones when it comes to writing, they just make me want to throw them off the wall in frustration. If it wasn’t for the radiation and the feeling that they provide that one is typing on a keyboard that unfortunately, only has to carry out such operations with 16oz boxing gloves on and twenty advisors giving one suggestions on how best to proceed at any one time. Total overkill, but a trillion dollar industry nonetheless! Yeah, so to summarise, your work cheers me up.
Lisa when is your next album abroad? Really enjoyed listening to "has album .".bought from tower records in Dublin and listened to from Holyhead to London. Long drive. The only song that's made me laugh out loud, the one about Chris.

Lisa O'Neill's recent live performances of this song with the Swell Season are among the most beautiful and emotional things I've ever seen.

Sinead O'Connor wrote this amazing song, fyi.
Tá an t-amhrán seo go hiontach.
Left handed and holds a pen like me :-)
But plays guitar right handed, never known anyone did that.
Your voice reminds me a bit of Emmylou Harris
Y love you....you love mee?
