The bittersweet irony of Kenny giving up the syringe to Levi is so tragic yet fulfilling. He lived most of his life pursuing power through violence. He most likely never even imagined that he’d one day be unexpectedly instilled with a deep desire to understand a concept as foreign to him a compassion. This desire stemmed from an unlikely friendship with a man who was the complete opposite of his violent, immoral self. Even after Uri died, Kenny continued to hold on to the belief that becoming a Titan was the missing piece to enabling him to finally see Uri’s point of view. This is the episode where viewers finally understand that what Kenny truly wanted was to know why, and how his friend was able to uphold the virtues and beliefs he’d had. It became a desire so great, Kenny willingly set aside his pride and became a dog to the monarchy, continuing on his path of violence in the hopes of getting just a little closer to the answers he was searching for. This unfortunate misconception of power and strength being the path to understanding compassion is what lead to Kenny initially stealing the syringe with the intention of using it for himself. By choosing to give the syringe to Levi before his death, he’d essentially made the decision to let go of that dream for good. The beautiful irony of this is that in truth it was that very, first ever act of selflessness in his final moments, that truly fulfilled his desire to stand in the shoes and see from the eyes of a virtuous man. His selfless act of willingly sacrificing his dream was the very key to finally fulfilling it. Despite the (mostly) morally and ethically deplorable human he was when alive, Kenny’s last words proved that he left the world with a far deeper understanding of humanity than most. He’s such a beautifully written character with a perfect ending. Kenny’s last words. *Remember them* . It’s one of, if not the most, thematically significant pieces of dialogue in the entire show and captures the essence and core motives of pretty much every single one of our characters in their entirety. Everyone is a slave to something and there are no exceptions, whether it’s in the show or in reality. Also a little fun fact that Levi holds his ODM blades differently from everyone else because he holds them the way Kenny taught him to grip his shiv growing up in the ghetto 💀
Episode 12 has an end credit scene. If you decide to skip, it will play later in the season. But if you want a sneak peak to theorize on watch it. I watched it when the episode came out and it def made me very interested in what was coming next
Oh sweet you recognized Djell Sannes in the Kenny flashbacks. Such a pivotal episode, Kenny is fully believes himself to be a piece of shit. So when he saw first hand that every Reiss that inherited the Founding Titan to be compassionate and be able to speak of things like love, he wanted to know what they saw and if maybe a piece of shit like himself could see the world that way. But in the end he already had compassion, for his comrades, and for Levi for teaching him what he needed to survive but letting him go so he wouldn't turn out like him and kept his last name a secret so he wouldn't be prosecuted. Everyone needs something to keep moving forward in this cruel world.
I would've never expected _that_ to be Kenny's true motivation for wanting the titan power. Such a cool and unique perspective from a seemingly cold-blooded degenerate like him.
Levi's moment with Historia and the others was very touching. Ever since Petra, Aururo, Eld, and Gunther died, Levi didn't have any moment of levity. He lost all of his friends time and time again as well as the man who raised him, and the woman who loved him, and yet here we see him letting his new Squad Levi grow on him. There seems again to be a thematic element in this as well. We have seen time and time again that the desire to be friends, to have compassion for one another, and to live in peace is often reoccurring in different forms. But the circumstances of the world, the pain caused by it, and sometimes the goals of others, keep them apart. I wouldn't go as far as to say it is Schopenhauer's "Hedgehog Dilemma" but it certainly feels like a hint of that, especially given what Kenny said.
Kenny and Uri are such a cool duo, also they crowned Historia on the platform where Erwin was gonna hang, and Mikasa asked Historia to punch Levi because of how mean he is to Eren. very excited to see you guys react to the rest of the show
The last part is not correct. Levi challenged Historia to tackle her duty as queen, to which the others said that Historia should be able to decide that for herself. In the manga, this point is even more explicit, where Levi grabs Historia and gets violent, which was mitigated in the anime. Mikasa then told Historia, "When you're queen, you show that 'little one'." Sorry, I'm using a translator, I hope you understand what I wanted to say
Fun fact: This chapter and bystander (the next one) are the two favorite chapters of Hajime Isayama. Sure that are special chapters and is better in retrospective as the series progress.
"I'm not meant to be someone's father..." - Kenny I just happened to catch up on all your videos and it's father's day which I didn't even remember until now since I don't have much of a reason to remember it. Man, ...that part stung...
If you are the type of people who dislike watching previews or trailers (like I am) then I would recommend skipping the end credits scene in episode 12. It shows a later scene with no context, it definitely will hype you up, but personally I dislike it if you’re not waiting 6 months like the people who watched this season when it was first releasing. It doesn’t give away a ton, but I find that if you watch it right before part 2 you’ll probably be anticipating what happens next, rather than just living in the moment so to speak.
They watched it. Dre put out a very thoughtful theory, which I won't be disclosing whether it was accurate or not since they read comments and I don't want to give any hints. Nonetheless, based on their reaction to it, i definitely don't see it affecting their reaction at all when they actually make it to that episode

Mikasa's mother was from the Oriental clan and her father was an Ackerman, both families can't be controlled by the Royal family. Now we get to find out more about the beast titan and who he is. Ackermann's are like loyal guard or pet dogs. I'm not saying they're literally like dogs (just in case some random commenters got offended😅😂), I just can't think of anything else to compare it with -- I'm talking about the loyalty or the relationship they have with someone; like Mikasa to Eren, Levi to Erwin, and Kenny to Uri.
