Top 10 most iconic scenes from 80’s Action Movies as chosen by my viewers. We've now launched our fundraising campaign for my first feature-length documentary "IN SEARCH OF THE LAST ACTION HEROES". The most comprehensive retrospective documentary on the ‘80s Action Movie genre EVER MADE. I'd be so grateful if you could back this project so we can make something special! Check out the Kickstarter and get some fantastic rewards! goo.gl/cMyBuK
Oliver Harper, I hadn't voted, but I would have chosen the scene from 'Predator', just before the fist fight between Arnie and the alien, where he says: 'you are one ugly m****r f****r'. Priceless! Indeed, all the final fight is an emanation of the 80s movies - brute force, throwing one liners, and obligatory explosive finale.
While its maybe not as "actioney-exciting" the bridge scene fron Temple of Doom is just as tense and awesome as well. "Hang on lady, we go for a ride" hahaha
Thewingkongexchange I know, almost any sequence from the Original Indy trilogy should make this. The truck chase or plane fight from "Raiders", the mine cart chase or bridge sequence from "Temple", or the boat, plane, or tank chase from "Crusade".
Funny how you don't always appreciate how good things can be when your young. After watching all of Oliver's retrospectives I realize how I took for granted most of my formative years. Just pledged on Kickstarter as a way of thanking him for the great work. Keep it up Oliver.
I hate to be a fence-sitter, but I honestly couldn't pick my favourite moment from between that, Arnie screaming & holding up the torch in Predator or the montage in Commando when he gears up on the beach. All of them make my hair stand on end :)
Happy to back your awesome project. I've been thoroughly enjoying a lot of your video projects on RUclips for the last two years. Best of luck on getting funded ! :)
'Oliver Harper ' Keep up the good work, Oliver! I wish you make another top 10 list of final confrontations in underrated/overlooked movies. The final confrontation between Styles and Blake at the Watts Tower from "Ricochet" is one of my favorites, and the score cue, "Blake Gets The Point" is one of Alan Silvestri's most energetic, aggressively brutal action cues in his career.
Great list. I gotta say the Viewers had some great taste in action. I loved the "Arcade Battle" scene in Big Trouble in Little China, but what made me love it even more was the music. Blends Chinese culture with pure 80's pop. Great Stuff.
Shocked that there were no scenes from any Indiana Jones films! The chase sequences alone are incredible, although I guess the fact that they're based on old-school serials means they don't quite capture the kind of over-the-top musclebound flair of the film's on this list.
The biggest majority of great films from a critical & noncritical perspective came from the period of late 70's to the early 90's. Original stories that came from a honest desire to make truly compelling narratives with real soul that speak to us all. They weren't driven by profit, limited by sensitivities or politics but because of their freedom and honesty have become priceless to many young & old and will continue to.
I don't think that the 80's had that many truly great movies, but I might be wrong to some extent. On average I enjoyed 80's movies more than I do movies from today.
@ Oliver Harper Robocop is one of my favorite science fiction/ action films of all time. Very pleased that the shoot out in the drug factory made the list as it is one of my favorite parts of the movie.
brilliant, proud to be an 80s kid! "All I know is this Lo Pan character comes out of thin air in the middle of a goddamn ally while his buddies are flying around on wires cutting everybody to shreds and he just stands there waiting for me to drive my truck straight through him! with light coming out of his mouth!!"
Growing up in the 80's, feels like a privilege, when taking into account all the wonderful action movies that were made! Films like BIg Trouble, in Little China, Robocop, Bloodsport, Predator, etc... ;-)
I like Beverly Hills cop II , those robbery scenes are extremely well done , I love conan 82 but I'm not sure it was more of an fantasy /adventure move genre ,
Conan 82 ,so good it wasn't my favourite scene when I was a kid but these days I think Conan's mother getting decapitated is truly a great scene music ,pace melancholy all that good stuff
+rascalMatt17 Baghdad? you say? deployment? one of those guys huh😁. you can always tell ex military you wanna know how ,its not quick reflex's superior man to man combat skills ,or a neat haircut , they'll tell you within 2 seconds of meeting em. not talking about you though
John Smith You're partially right though. I've noticed a high number of people who served in the military sprinkle it into conversation on a daily basis. I've seen it since I graduated high school. From people I went to school with who served, and the hundreds of different people I've worked with since then. Guys I work with everyday will immediately throw it out whenever new hires come in and then they sprinkle it liberally for several days so the new people will know. Don't get me wrong, I respect it but when I meet someone for the first time and in less than five minutes they're EXPECTING me to say; "thank you for your service.", I won't do it. If I find out that they were in the Navy, I'll never thank them for shit. People I've known for a bit and then I find out they served (the ones who are humble, and served out of duty), I'll ask a few questions. If they don't want to talk about it, I know they definitely saw things they wish they hadn't. Some are willing to open up or are enthusiastic about their experiences and I'll show my respect. But the dickbags that go around expecting people to kiss their asses get no respect simply on principle from me.
Great video. Love the soundbite transitions, especially the Robocop to BTILC segway. Although the die hard one seems like a missed opportunity to use yipeekayee to underscore your last sentence.
Damn, I should have submitted some ideas. These were great. A great opening scene to kick off the list would have been when Dutch and Dillon greet each other at the beginning of The Predator. That just speaks to the over the top, muscles and testosterone fused nature of these movies, haha. And you're right, Ollie, Conan should have been on there. Definitely his prayer to Crom at the battle of the burial mounds or the orgy fight scene when he's approaching Thulsa Doom's lackey's for a fight. Epic muscles and war paint on Conan. Great job!
Brilliant video but since you mentioned it, please please do a commentary on Police Story. The final 15 minutes are truly astonishing. How Jackie Chan even lived to make another movie was a miracle!
Can’t believe Commando is #1!! Love that movie. Didn’t think it was held in such high esteem by everyone else! “I’ll be back Bennett.” “John... I’ll be waiting John!”
I know it was already in the original list you amended, but nothing beats that rooftop jump in Die Hard for me. THAT was the scene I recreated endlessly as a 12 year old. Frantically tying a bed sheet around my waste muttering "what the fuck are you doing, John?.." and jumping off my bed screaming. At 12, remember.
Death Wish 3 is one of the most ridiculous films I've ever seen...and not in a bad way hehe. Death Wish 4 was definitely my favorite in the series though. It was like one of those Hitman games.
JohnDaWhale3 Haha I can't really remember 4 that well. Maybe I should rewatch them all. I think I loved 3 the most because I have a soft spot for anything with 80s street punks and over the top cheesy 80s action
@@caammm88 Wildey makes Death Wish 3 watchable IMO. Kersey blasting holes in 80's punks with that gun was epic. The only thing that comes close to that is the last part of Death Wish 4 when he uses the grenade launcher on the final bad guy.
You're right! Where was Superman II?!?! I may also had Cannonball Run II in there with Jackie Chan! I was on the edge of my seat to see where Predator would end up. Brilliant Video!!
Great edit of the Matrix/Bennett showdown at the end there, better continuity editing than some parts of the film going straight from the punch flurry to the pipe throw!
The difference between Terminator and Commando with everything else is that they are a continuous action scene that goes on until the end..I would like to add SCARFACE's ending(even though not an action movie technically) it was epic ...
I generally dont care about top 10 lists anymore (Watch Mojo killed them for me) But this was a refreshing take. It combines your well thought out commentary from your retrospectives and puts it with the shorter, easy to digest top 10 format. You should do more of these
Glad you mentioned Jackie Chan and Police Story at the end Oliver. If it was my list it would have been about 50% Jackie Chan, Policy Story (mall fight, bus stunt, shanty town destruction), Project A (clock tower stunt) and Wheels on Meals (Jackie vs Benny Urquidez). I like Commando, but I don't understand how anyone could think the goofy stupidness of Commando is the greatest action scene of the 80s. I can only assume people were voting for that ironically. The Predator shootout looks very weak if you compare it to the end shoot out of Walter Hill's Extreme Prejudice, but I guess less people have seen that. Surprised there's no John Woo, the end of The Killer beats most of these (IMO of course). Also, the big fight from They Live should have been in with a shot.
Ripley in the power loader vs the Queen in Aliens. McClain tied to the fire hose in Die Hard. Miagi proving to Daniel that he has been teaching him Karate. The big battle in Big Trouble in Little China. The "put on the glasses" fight in They Live. Superman vs Zod & co. in Superman 2. The Terminator storming the police station. Rocky on the mountain top at the end of the second training montage in Rocky 4. Riggs bringing down the jumper in Lethal Weapon. Rambo escaping the sheriff station.
Funny enough I’m in Bournemouth this weekend for a wedding and I think we are staying in the travelodge just at the peak of Arnies left bicep, next to the vein. Air’s pretty thin up here.
I was hoping for Hawkins death in Predator, the pacing the music the effects, plus the first on screen kill for the creature always kept me on the edge of my seat
If I had remembered to cast my vote I would've said that my favorite scene from ALIENS is the Xeno ambush in the refinery, but the "Last Stand" scene is a good second.
Great list! There’s a few noticeable absences, but that’s just telling me there were far too many great action scenes in the 80s and 90s for a top 10. Looking forward to see what comes from the kick starter!
Glad to see my choice of Commando (carrying tree looking insanely strong) made the number one spot. By the way, did you know that the big shoot out with all the soldiers at the end of the film was filmed on Harold Lloyd's estate. It was also the same location as the shoot out scene at the end of Beverly Hills Cop.
I would also add They Live even though its not exactly action. Who could forget The Running Man, every villain gets a funny one liner from Arnold. Plus One Man Force with the Freddy Mercury villain.
Just went and looked at the community post again to see other fans’ input and realized the film I brought up (Hard Boiled) was made in 1992, I had it mixed up with another film but can you blame me? It’s so over the fucking top you’d swear one of em was gonna shit out a law launcher and nuke the hospital from orbit.
NO WAY You'll all be embarrassed when you see the clear top 1, 2 & 3 should be. 1. Darth Vader "No, I am your father." 2. Indiana Jones And The Raiders Of The Lost Ark as the boulder chases Indiana. 3. Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon taking the suicide jumper down.

I really like your channel and your voice.
Keep up the great work.
👏👏👏
Nobody choose No Retreat, No Surrender "Ice Cream scene"?
If it's 80's Action Heroes only, then why is Van Damme's character from Universal Soldier (1992) on the poster?
Oliver Harper I'm keen to support your kickstarter. How big is the poster?
Darn, no "Raiders of The Lost Ark" truck chase.
I'd argue the tank battle in Crusade is better but sadly that didn't even make it in.
First thing I thought too.
@@44thTNBanana The boulder chase scene from Raiders comes to mind as well. There's a reason why it's still iconic to this day.
Funny how you don't always appreciate how good things can be when your young. After watching all of Oliver's retrospectives I realize how I took for granted most of my formative years. Just pledged on Kickstarter as a way of thanking him for the great work. Keep it up Oliver.
That car chase from mad max 2 is still the best.
Well done Ollie, so well thought out. The way the Robocop news jingle comes on when a number comes up, pure nostalgic cheese =P
Cheers mate!
Oliver, your voice is silk and caramel with a touch of chips and gravy.
The bay doors opening and revealing Ripley in the power loader would def be my #1. :)
It makes my hair stand up, nothing else remotely close.
I hate to be a fence-sitter, but I honestly couldn't pick my favourite moment from between that, Arnie screaming & holding up the torch in Predator or the montage in Commando when he gears up on the beach. All of them make my hair stand on end :)
The car chase from To Live and Die In L.A. should've made it, its so sick!
Yes! The Mad Max 2 Oil Tanker sequence is my favorite.
I’m glad the police station and tech noir made it on the list
Leslie died
😢
Nice to see Lethal Weapon get an honorable mention/showing at the beginning. Good Stuff.
Really glad you included Big Trouble in Little China.

Conan 82 ,so good it wasn't my favourite scene when I was a kid but these days I think Conan's mother getting decapitated is truly a great scene music ,pace melancholy all that good stuff

Great picks. I laughed out loud multiple times at the one-liners tossed in, haha.
1989 batman overlooked and could definatley be on this list.
Props be given to Oliver for using the musical tune that plays, during Media Break, in the film Robocop!
Can’t believe Commando is #1!! Love that movie. Didn’t think it was held in such high esteem by everyone else! “I’ll be back Bennett.” “John... I’ll be waiting John!”
Props @Oliver for including Police Story even if only in spirit.
"Biceps the size of Bournemouth" love it Oliver!
Love the use of the Robocop music when you introduce a new movie.
Mac is screaming out "CONTACT" which means, "We just found the enemy!"
incorrect. he screams "CONTAAAACT!!!"
I love your top 10 trailers list.
hope to see more top 10 from you in the future.

I hope Conan the Barbarian Battle of the Mounds makes honorable mention.
Jon Ericson All that matters is that two stood against many; that's what's important...
... and if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!
The sword fight/hand-to-hand fight between Scott Glenn and Atsuo Nakamura at the end of 1982's THE CHALLENGE. A little seen classic.

Great edit of the Matrix/Bennett showdown at the end there, better continuity editing than some parts of the film going straight from the punch flurry to the pipe throw!
ha ha that was great
These are some surprise choices other than the expected ones. Very impressive
'Biceps the size of Bournemouth' got me
Damn. No Raiders truck chase? That scene is incredible.
Commando 1985:
unlimited Ammo
infinite Health
All Weapons Unlocked
Easy Mode

.
Enemy Respawn too
CLASSIC
Great chart!
Love this list
Is the music on the title cards the Media Alert music from Robocop?
Indeed!

Nice video.
"Right in the knackers!"
4:32 - neither do I.
Top ten 80's punchlines too!
If these are the top ten chosen by Olivers viewers, then i would also love to see the top ten chosen by himself

Was waiting for no.1 and expecting Raiders of the Lost Ark. My favourite from these, Tech Noir and Die Hard explosives on the chair.
The mine car chase from TEMPLE OF DOOM.
And the Tank scene from Last Crusade.
I was hoping for Hawkins death in Predator, the pacing the music the effects, plus the first on screen kill for the creature always kept me on the edge of my seat
Mine has to be Mad Mardigan in Willow. When he turns into a giant snow ball. I always lol
Wow! I'm stunned! Swap Commando with Die Hard and we're good!
If I had remembered to cast my vote I would've said that my favorite scene from ALIENS is the Xeno ambush in the refinery, but the "Last Stand" scene is a good second.
ha ha Arnie saying f.u. asshole had me laughing😂.
If Hard Boiled was made in the 80s,the teahouse sence would have made it.
good memories and good picks :D

You could probably say that these are the top 10 80s action movies in particular order and I doubt anyone would really argue with you.
Not a single Mention of Indiana Jones. And I trusted this guy.
Rocky 4 final fight..
Asteroid field chase from The Empire Strikes Back and the truck chase from Raiders of The Lost Ark.
Fuck yeah, Commando #1. I'm a bit surprised but also really pleased to see it at the top of the list.
What is that AWESOME electronic music in the intro to this video?
Uploaded on my birthday!
20 quid in a birthday card on its way ,just posted
My favorite scene was when Jean Claude destroys Jason's dad in "No Retreat No Surrender". I can still hear the his screams now. JASON!!!

2. Indiana Jones And The Raiders Of The Lost Ark as the boulder chases Indiana.
3. Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon taking the suicide jumper down.
