LOVE that there's a Tonality plugin with an interface that's much more like Amphub, including MIDI support and the option to lock Routing! I haven't gotten MIDI footswitches yet, but I'd like to have the ability to control Tonality Andy James with them if I choose to do so. I REALLY hope that STL Tones updates the rest of the Tonality plugins like this!
As the drive increases, the high and low end filtering flatten out a little bit. All the way down, it’s at maximum poke. The drive control, while adding clipping, is going to bring in a little more high and low. Pretty sure I watched Brian Wampler do this in real time with an RTA. And when that isn’t enough control, there’s that fortin pedal right next to it.
Abel! We definitely figured you were busy as hell working with FNG Academy! Nice to see new content here, but i enjoy your work with Sean and the guys over at FNG as well!
The Peavey XXX was one of my favorite amps I've owned. That thing ripped on the crunch channel with low gain on the head and a boost in front for a mid heavy riff tone. I never used the Ultra channel!
Bringing up the drive a bit adds back some low mid growl and crunch that’s otherwise lost in a traditional TS setting. Plus it sustains better for leads. Zakk wylde does it also with the sd1. Heard it also helps plugins sound less processed and sterile
@@AbelHernandezguitar Yep, they finally have. Man, I was already going mad in the meantime... Great video, I really appreciate the more casual approach on your channel. Cheers to you! 🍻
I owned a triple x and it was instant nostalgia when I tried this model of the triple x, as crunchy as I remember. I used it on the crunch channel because the ultra had way to much gain.
I don't know why but i always ( for over 10 years) thought that STL were meeeehhh thanks but no thanks but this sounds actually that great that I am willing to try them again . I don't know what they did but something about it sounds kinda right to my ears this time.
I purchased this plug in and all the tones for me so so thin. I have an ltd guitar with active emg pickups i have have to turn the gain so high and it doesnt sound good
Great video as always! One question regarding the routing: Is the "stereo" mode an equivaltent to the "doubler feature" of the newer Neural DSP plugins? Ofc maybe not for recordings, but for just jamming I think it is a great feature to feel the music even more alive.
No I don’t believe it is, the stereo feature ensures you get a stereo left and right out of your speakers but does not slightly “delay” one of the two to achieve the doubler effect.
When you're playing this are you playing it raw without any additional processing on your guitar or mix channels? Always hard to find reviews that are playing the raw tone out of the box as I seem to notice many reviews still have other things improving the end tone outside the plugin. Thanks
@@AbelHernandezguitar That's awesome! Appreciate the reply. Josh's stuff is truly incredible and this plugin sounds no different. Listening to you play through headphones, it really sounds like it has the characteristics of a real head. That 5150 sounds so much like one I had years and years ago before I sold all my stuff went digital.
Normally i would say the KM6 is the best sounding. But with this plug in I'm digging the Mayones. Im trying to imagine how a guitar loaded with Duncan Black Winters would sound with this plus in. Also what surprised me the most in demos of this plug in was how awesome the clean tones are. Was not expecting these types of ambient tones honestly. Only thing this plug in doesn't have is a drop pedal so I can play in different tunings on the fly. But that's just being very nit picky for a plug in that doesn't need me to be.
I freakin love the sound of the Peavey inspired sims in this one! Hey man, you got any advice for a former analog gear snob who's recently warmed up to amp sims post Covid? Mainly in search of an always on "dynamics sweetener" to go between my interface and a traditional front of amp pedal chain. I previously had a Victory V4 all valve preamp, which was absolutely incredible combined with midi switchable Mod/Delay/Reverb sims & power amp/cab IRs! Unfortunately lost that V4 in a regretful gear purge when my GF got sick. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, I was just wondering if you possibly had any thoughts on a potential semi-hybrid setup like that? Thanks in advance amigo. Cheers!
I dunno how this guy makes stl plugins sound good, for me its too fizzy on the top end and sounds like farts, other plugins works like a charm dunno whats wrong with this..
one mistake you made so far at 6 minutes....you started playing but didnt set your input level......the light bulb my man....select high gain pickups and play some chords. ........ just breakin your balls but I am right.
@@AbelHernandezguitar I’m not trying to break your balls my brother. Great videos. Even better plug-in. Can’t believe this the first to be built on a component by component circuit recreation and not just a capture. Awesome job.
It's pretty disappointing that they got rid of ilok for a very limited and restrictive license system. Now they updated Lasse's tonality and support won't respond if it will still work on ilok.
A real amp is a real amp, I try to appreciate sounds for what they are on their own. when you’re constantly comparing plug-ins to real amps the real amps will always win, but the ease of use and intuitiveness of plug-ins can’t be matched.
@@AbelHernandezguitar That's right. I find amp 1 quite successful. There is a plugin revalver 3.5 from peavey not the 4 version and there the mesa boogie and peavey xxx sounds more detailed. From ez mix there are packs that are also more realistic.
You rip man, fantastic style. This is my favourite 5150 emulation, and Mercurialls EVH stealth for a modern variant.
Bought it at like 1:00am, I’m loving this, I’ll be playing all day!

I honestly think this is one of the best sounding Mesa sims I have heard. Right up there with Archetype Petrucci, but more raw sounding.
I haven’t heard the Petrucci but this one is insanely live, loud and raw

Awesome demo as always Abel! welcome back 🍺🍻
Thanks man 🤘
I tried this plugin today and it is a really good sounding plugin.
The Peavey XXX was one of my favorite amps I've owned. That thing ripped on the crunch channel with low gain on the head and a boost in front for a mid heavy riff tone. I never used the Ultra channel!
I think this sounds better than his tonehub pack, or at least with his tonality you can tweak the tone further to your personal liking
Yes, a lot more individual control over each amp.
That's saying a lot 'cause his Tonehub is insane :)

The satisfaction of the new strings, I saw it on your face, hell yea
Great video as always! Funny enough, Josh Middleton runs his tone knob the other way because he says the mids need to be cut with 5150s in his opinion
Oh nice! Good to know 🤘
Loving these looser, long-form demos for a change, compared to the STL version you have to do! Keeps things fun and interesting. Cheers!
Good to know man!
I have Josh’s Tonehub pack and his Kemper pack, this sounds great and might just have to pick it up! Awesome review Abel!
Always like your videos, well done. On a side note do you mind saying what string gauge you use for this tuning and also drop C?
That clean ambient section just takes me somewhere. Is that from a real song?
Can't even activate the trial version. The button "activate trial" is greyed out. Support couldn't help, even with a newer installer version...🥺
I believed they have resolved this issue!

The Triple XXX was my first tube amp! Sounded amazing with an overdrive, I paid 275 for it, no footswitch
Well done, sir. May I ask what you play plugins through at home? Just studio monitors or something else?
Sounds nice. Thanks for making awesome videos.
What sample rate and buffer settings do you keep for the audio interface?
Increible!!!!!

Keith Merrow signature Fishman pickups

The tone is completely raw, I’m playing into the plugin and recording the audio in Cubase. No post processing whatsoever.
