  • S3-E1 Welcome to season 3. We’re Back! We are so very sorry to have been absent these past few months. Shortly after settling into our new jobs, we received some bad news regarding Chris’ health. He’s not comfortable sharing his diagnosis with you in a video until we know more about his prognosis.
In this episode we are leaving our 1st workamping job at Twisted Horns Ridge in Hondo, Texas and heading to our 2nd workamping job in Johnson City, Texas. I will be the new park manager at Miller Creek RV Park. It was only supposed to take us 1.5 hours to get to Johnson City. However, we had to stop in Bandera, Texas and have 2 shocks removed from our RV because they were rubbing against the tires. We called our roadside assistance and had a rv tech come out to remove the shocks. So, we spent the night in a parking lot and headed to Johnson City the next morning.
We pulled in and the park was beautiful. We spent 4 days with the management company for training. That was a lot of information crammed in to 4 days. We had a 5 person staff, including us. However, 4 out of the 5 park staff were all newly hired, including us.
We hit the ground running. We met with the guests and got earfuls of what they were wanting out of the park. We made our lists and got to work. We worked really hard on filling the activity calendar with fun & interesting things for the guests to do.
We had daily coffee by campfire and happy hours in the Watering Hole. We had weekly games nights and live music in the Rec Hall. We had monthly donuts, potlucks, movie nights, and day trips. We called them the Miller Creek RV Park Daytrippers. They would go on wine tours, to restaurants, or to breweries, distilleries, or wineries and have great times.
Chris took on the live music activities and performed for the guests. He also played duets with his dad, Ray Rogers. Ray played the Ed Sullivan Show when he toured with Liza Minelli, and played banjo on Austin City Limits with Clint Black. Chris always says that Ray sings Neil Diamond better than Neil Diamond, I agree. Chris also played with other musician guests in the park. Including Almost Willie, who wandered in and played for the guests for a free site one night, and came back 2 more times while we were there.
The last activity we had before we left, was a group of traveling comedians. It was fun to host the first comedy tour with the stage on the deck of a toy hauler. However, “keep it clean” must mean something completely different to comedians. But the guests had a great time.
During the brief time I had an assistant, we went exploring our new community. We love Blanco County. We were nestled halfway between Blanco and Johnson City. We love to eat, so much so that we do it every day. Watch the video for our reviews on the food scene. Below are the links to the restaurants & places we mentioned in the video:
