That's the question. The answer, near as I can tell is to make the thing out of. a single piece of steel. So, that's what we're working on in this video.

Will, when are you posting your next video? Need to see the progress you've made! also, been watching your videos trying to find info on how you are connecting your steel track pieces together? How do you plan out your coaster and make sure everything will go together relatively easily? Planning to begin my own coaster for my daughters soon. Hoping for it to be ready by the time they are 4, so it gives me 2.5 years to get it together. Want some time for some trial and error, plus learning how to weld.
Is this what you are going to spend your quarantine doing? I might have to start making a PVC one!

I just remembered the “failed” barrel roll (I used quotes to say not really a fail, but a learning experience), and in theory, wouldn’t it be better to put the roll either towards the beginning of the ride after the launch since when you make it to the top of the hill, most of your energy is put back into gravity, and put a little section familiar to B&M’s old rides right after their chain lifts, so there’s a little dip so some speed can come back into your cart. And of course, to make sure it’s not too much like Cannibal’s Lagoon Roll.
We don’t want to scare the kids *too* much, do we?
So a bit like Sky Rocket II's roll?
Or simply a pre-launch JoJo roll(maybe a JoJo Lagoon roll like the Plopsaland roll?)
Revi M Fadli yea, along the lines of that. Or maybe something like on the top hat of TTD, but instead of coming straight back down, you have a heart line roll straight out of the hill.
The b&m pre drop is is so that when the train reaches the top of the hill and has to do an evac. The train doesn’t move because there is one brake on the pre drop
What I would give to have one of these in my backyard, I wish I could make one but I don’t have the money or experience because I’m only 12 years old. But something I have done is calculated the cost and drawn a little blueprint of what it would look like. I think it would be the coolest thing ever to be making roller coasters, well I only say that because I want to be a civil/mechanical engineer when I’m older and I researched that they make roller coaster. Anyways keep up the good stuff! I’m also commenting this on your Instagram if it will fit lol 😂.

Hi will, today I started building a PVC coaster in my yard. I’ve built 5 supports out of the 35 that it needs. I’ve spent a crazy amount of time watching you videos and planning it hyper-specifically. I know where every support will be the height and the angle as-well but I have two questions:
1) is it strictly necessary to pre-bend the pipe for the “lesserly” curved sections? There are two places where I know I will probably need to but for my airtime hills and such is it a necessity?
2) The cart design is driving my crazy. I can’t weld so that doesn’t help, and what degrees of freedom to give to the front and back wheels it not something that I know.

Congratulations on your project. The first thing I always tell people who ask for advice is this: Having a roller coaster in your backyard is like having a combination of a swimming pool, a trampoline, and a airplane. Generally speaking, all of these things can be operated safely. BUT, they are also seriously unforgiving of incapacity or neglect. BE CAREFUL!
Okay - Personally, I don't think you'll need to heat or pre-bend your PVC for every part of the track. When I built my first coaster (PVC and Wood), I didn't pre-bend any of the track. What I found, however, was that the track was always under stress because the pvc was trying to straighten itself out. So, best to pre-bend as much as you can.
The Cart - You'll need 2 degrees of freedom on the rear wheels, and 3 on the front. It can be done without welding or steel. Just take your time, test everything, stay safe and have fun!

You should make a cart that can fit 2-3+ people. That would look AMAZING. Also it can fit more riders at a time.

The real genius is that the coaster's also a project management showcase & marketing exercise for his management coaching business, which is where he got the money to build all these(I guess?)

Hey Will just give me a heads up your welds were a lot better but footnote need to move your grounding electrode a lot closer was a little too far so if you go back in the video wear your blue tape was at from the bend that's where you want your ground electrode to be sign sprack a tack 248

Edit: do 2d coasters that don’t turn need the weels that move up and down or just completely locked metal bar so the weeks can roll but the weel things don’t move up and down

You have to bear in mind that the longer your cart is, the lower the turning/articulation radius is of the cart on the track. :)
