- Sky News host Paul Murray dissects Labor’s 2024 federal budget with former speaker of the house Bronwyn Bishop and former Labor senator Stephen Conroy.
Ms Bishop reminded people she had predicted an early election since the Albanese government broke its election promise on stage three tax cuts.
She also described the latest budget effort as a “barnacle cleansing exercise” ahead of an election campaign.
Mr Conroy agreed with Ms Bishop, saying the government has been “cleaning the barnacles off the shed in a way that says we want to be focused”.
The former Labor MP remained convinced of the “Labor values” behind the newest budget.

Agreed. The political class should be terrified of those they represent, yet they lie, fraud, deceive and betray without consequence. Any broken promise should have to be heard in a Court and unless in exceptional circumstances it should mean time behind bars.

Every time I fill up my car or buy groceries I pay the price for the increase in fuel excise introduced by this government. Tax cuts are just giving us back a small portion of what they already stole from us.

Most of the budget is corporate welfare; allowing electricity prices to skyrocket then using OUR own money, tax money, handed back to us to pay high bills to corporations. Just cut actual tax in real terms, the existing tax cuts don't even address a decade of bracket cheap, not even close.
We need a method of preserving our resources for us first and somehow disconnecting the price of these resources from so called World prices. We should have the cheapest gas and electricity in the world. Our manufacturers should have the cheapest iron ore and steel in the world. These are the solutions, it is possible. If these corporations want to mine here, world best prices and unlimited access to our own resources must be the condition.
The whole green washing BS is also just corporate welfare, paying millions to "mates" in the so called green industry. It is a fraud.

if there was no trillion debt owed then you have a surplus but no one is paying off the debt so really no surplus still huge debt and that will never change .

Actually, my gas and electricity haven't gone up in two years and the gas has actually gone down, my gas heater costs hardly anything now.

So, I have a small house in South Australia. It is paid for as is my car. I had solar fitted which is providing zero bills for the moment. I have gas for cooking. I am retired, partially self funded and have a small military pension. What happens to my energy handout? Will it go towards my gas bills? This is snake oil bs.

If renewables are so cheap, why give 3 billion instead of using that money building more?. Instead of tax cuts and energy rebates, the money should go to building more solar, wind and battery. That way we would have very cheap household and production electricity- unless of course it's a sham and another lie.

There is a fair amount of budget analyses already on Sky. But as Paul and other political reporters from mainstream media have all said that this budget is an early election budget which will only fuel inflation which will kick in next year. Labor are only for power and destruction to our freedom and values and way of life.
