My dream job is to operate a dragline in a gravel pit. It's becoming a lost art. My Grandpa ran a dragline in the pits of Northern Illinois from 1957-73.

Good base just like it is. We used to use to pad out roads in swamps with creek rock, big ones and all. Then come back over with some granite to fill in the swags. Good looking stuff and I like that hydraulic dragline. I just ran manual friction rigs myself.

Lewie McNeely we are loving the new Dragline once we got the urea system fixed! We never got to hit bottom before we quit testing... The owner of the land wanted to know what was there since the previous contractor never took the material under the water for some reason. We were at 20ft + before we stopped... Allot of material to be had that was left!

That's good! Looks like a fine spot for a gravel operation. I've always thought how a hydraulic rig could be run easily with 2 wobble sticks except for the propelling part but maybe that too. Looks like with hydraulic you could have everything live rather that either swing or propel. Maybe like a trackhoe setup which would be easy enough. I ran a Model-6 and a 30-B with a drop ball but mostly smaller rigs because they were easier to get around. Got to pay the light bill somehow! And I hope the urea system got 'fixed' like is done to cats and dogs.

We have Northwest 25,41, 6's , 95WT and 9570. Most all mechanical and some air over mechanical. This Liebherr is a dream to run. 2 paddles for hoist and drag on your right hand and joystick on the left for swinging...Yes you can have everything live if wanted, all variable speed which is nice for long swings and not getting any wire rope slap on the hoist. I'll post a video of us running from inside to show the controls here soon.

Thanks! It'd have to be a lot simpler than the old manual rigs. I ran a 25 with a drag bucket and the 6 with the headache ball, both with Murphys. 22B's with GM.s cCummins and IH out of a TD-15. Units with 2 and 3-71's and an American truck mount feeding an asphalt plant in RVN with a Ford flathead gas. Plus a Loraine (pony motor start Cat 4-banger) and a Lima
(4-71) here and there both with drag buckets. And I saw the Kitty sitting on the hill. I've c.d.l. driven and operated equipment for over 40 years so we can talk about the turkey if not the turkey itself!. And helped clear, grade and put a crusher together years ago and then helped run it, woe iz me.
