They lived in boarding houses on sight
They worked 11 hours a day 6 days a week
The first immigrant group to work at Lowell mills were the Irish
In late 19th century Lowell mills transitioned to steam energy

My great grand parents went to live in Lowell from Southport England in 1893. Great grandad was a mill weaver. My Grandma was born there and she had a younger brother who only lived for a few weeks and is buried in the cemetery. My Great grandma and Grandma came back to Southport in 1899. Don't know what happened to my Great Grandad called Fred Taylor
