Thoughts on Lambing and Shearing Sheep - a farm vlog

- No matter how many lambing seasons I've had in my life as a shepherdess, there are still nerves to cope with. This season especially so as I look to my first lambing with the new flock of registered Shetland sheep. This is also my first shearing of that flock and as excited as I am - again, nerves! In the end, the sheep will do what they do best - have lambs and grow beautiful wool.
I'm going to share a few very short vlogs for the next couple of days, taking you along as I prepare for these two big events. I hope you'll enjoy them!

Cary, sending you a virtual hug. Your work will get done whether you worry about it or not. Remember Bill is watching over you and the flock❤️
Thank you my friend! I do feel that he is, thank you for reminding me ❤
Aw, thank you for sharing your real journey. You’re going to do great and I’m sending you all the hugs!
Thank you for the encouragement Amanda! ❤❤❤
Running low on hay is what keeps us awake at night. I hear you! Many blessings for you an your ewes at lambing time.
Isn't that the truth! Every year I say I'm not going to stress about it, and every year I still do! Thank you for watching 😊
This was lovely to wake up to this morning xxx
I hope it made you smile!
I love you, Cary and I know you will do a fantastic job! Sending big hugs! Sally
Sally, thank you do much ❤️ I sure appreciate that!
Cary, you are going to do just fine with the shearing and the lambing. It is normal to have some doubts, especially with your new Shetlands as it is the first time.
Thank you Margo! And of course, I'm super excited ❤
I'm sorry for not watching this before now, Cary, but your words couldn't have come at a better time! I had an awful day lambing yesterday and had to call my neighbour out three times (prolapse followed by entwined twins followed by a ewe's entire lambing bed coming out!). Mercifully he managed to save all ewes and lambs but the day really knocked me and any confidence in my abilities that I'd gained over the last few years has vanished, so it was incredibly reassuring to hear that you get nervous too! Thank you for all your kindness and take good care of yourself, Rachel 💐🐑❤
Awww, Rachel 😪 Those are the tough days aren't they? Sending you shepherdess hugs across the miles 💗💗💗
@@mywoolmitten Thank you so very much, Cary! 💐
Thank you for sharing!!
If I lived closer I would be right there with you helping in anyway I could ❤
Wouldn't we have fun Bonnie? Thank you for the encouragement ❤
@@mywoolmitten we would be in our element ❤️
Looking forward to seeing the shearing.
I can't wait to share the results ❤️
Hi, Cary. Thank you for your vlog and video. ❤ Welcome.
Hay anxiety is real! I suffer from it constantly. I feel your nerves, but you'll draw on your years of experience, and step by step, the shearing and lambing will unfold. Take care of yourself as well as your flock. ❤
Oh my goodness, I never get over it (the hay, lol) Thank you for the calming words of encouragement ❤
I know that feeling of anxious energy, and I, too, feel better after talking through it with friends, I'm so glad you talked through it with us! By now, shearing is done, and I hope it went well. Hit me up next year. I'll drive out and give you a hand. 😊
Ohhh thank you Paige ❤️ I can't tell you how much that means to me! Okay, start plotting your calendar for shearing, lambing, gardening in Michigan next spring 😘
Hugs and praying for everything comes out good. Anxiety is not fun. Thanks for sharing. Sending love❤
Thank you! And soon they're be fleece and lambs to share ❤
Big hugs to you! Your shearing day is over now as I watch this. I hope it went smoothly! Gathering my supplies up tonight to shear my Finn sheep tomorrow.
I always feel nervous for shearing and lambing too. Big hugs to you and Stephanie and Rachel too. We are all in this together, though we may be apart.❤
What a wonderful thought that is! Thank you so much, and I hope your shearing day is a really good one, too ❤️ Keep us posted!
I’m sending you lots of love and support
Thank you for always having my back 😊
@@mywoolmitten 😘
I reckon those thoughts and feelings are totally normal when we know a big endeavour is about to happen, but as you said, you’ve loads of years of experience to back you up; once things get going you’ll hit your stride! Sending a big hug to you; any time the anxiety arises, feel the loving hugs of all of us giving you a gentle support you can lean into 💖✨🤗 I’ll be going to Suzanna’s for lambing on the 6th & we can Zoom and share our lambing stories xx
I love that idea 😊 You will have lots more lambs then me, I think 🤗❤️
Beautiful Cary and thank you!
You're going to love the Shetland lambs so much I know it. I've heard some long time shetland Shephards say they've only had one or two lambing issues in 10-20 years. My mentor just told me she had a ewe with only one good teat nurse and care for triplets with no problems! Crazy.
But they are little bitty lambs so they might find more trouble than your larger Corriedale lambs did. 😅
Thank you my friend! Yes all the little nooks and crannies and holes in the fence that a 10 pound lamb can't get through...😮😂
