2018, 2019, and 2020 were all baking hot summers in the UK and the weather forecasters in the media all measured the temperatures in °C rather than °F. Also, older people still use °F for hot temperatures in the UK but never for cold temperatures. British Millennials, Generation Z and Generation Alpha are used to measuring temperatures in °C.
In June 06 I bought a thermometer in France which only has Celsius on it. I was taught Celsius in School, use it all year and don't know anyone who changes between Celsius and Farenheit in Summer and Winter respectively. Celsius simply has water freezing at zero and boiling at 100. In other words it is very simple.
I have fond memories of watching GMTV in Summer 2006. On July 17th that year, I saw a Discover Ireland advert, the pollen count (sponsored by Benadryl) whilst I blasted out "The Real Life" song on my Barbie Diaries toy speaker (❤️ that tune) when my mum applied some sun cream for school.
I remember when they did this, and even now it still baffles me. Fahrenheit to most people in the UK is completely meaningless. I get that they wanted to show large, hot numbers, but surely you’d get more of a reaction from the average Briton if you told them it was going to be 37c instead of 99f?
The only reason they do this is because it looks better when you're telling people about hot weather. If you say 37 degrees, that makes it look a lot cooler than it's Fahrenheit counterpart of 99 Degrees. In the U.S. media gives forecasts based on "looks" instead of accuracy on TV. Those who want accuracy are usually in scientific, medical, or government fields who need the accuracy, and thus use Celsius. There is no excuse for using lbs, oz, etc however.

These were the days of GMTV. Some of the best weather presenters and weather maps.
Actually symbol maps were actually quite bad as the radius they would cover is small so the 3D weather maps are extremely fantastic
It's funny how the UK media shows fahreheit values when it's warm.
When it's boiling hot it's also shown in Celsius NOT Fahrenheit
We don't use Fahrenheit in the UK only Celsius
She's the only heatwave I need
I hate it when it gets hot in SE England, it gets so bloody humid.

It actually cooled down a lot more in London on that Saturday I remember I could feel it!
Nostalgia this is!!
School days! Freedom!

I do not recall Fahrenheit ever being used on our weather forecasts.. wtf?
Fahrenheit is a ridiculous scale based on who knows what. Celsius, based on water is far easier to understand
No Fahrenheit and Celsius are not much similar
@ Micheal Gregory wrong
I remember this forecast so well and people were complaining about it🙄. I have always and still to this day use Fahrenheit and I always will.
It is because they literally switched just for one day

Those numbers are meaningless to me...
Dendiol no we also had one in July 2013
And 2018 (April-August).
If it really was 99 Celsius, we wouldnt be here today
These are temperatures you encounter in a sauna, sometimes a sauna reaches 110 degrees Celsius.
I remember it being very hot at the time, i was only 9 in 2006
Last heatwave we had
There was heatwaves in June 2010, July/August 2013, April-August 2018 & July/August 2020.
@@charlii_tvMMVI The ‘7 years ago’ should indicate that my comment preceded most of the heatwaves you refer to.
@SuperAmbergold Not true actually. Metric measurements started to be introduced way before the entry of the UK into the EEC.
97.7F. Thats just outside of 37F which is the average human temperature!
Wrong,37.5 Celsius is actually the average body temperature 🌡️
FAHRENHIET NOT CELSIUS! If it was celsius, we would all die.
What is she on about? Everyone understands Centigrade!
You mean Celsius
@@stephensnell1379 It is in fact interchangeable.
@@santiroblesperales2990 wrong modern day people call it Celsius
The last hot summer in the U.K That was.....
That's because of climate change our changing climate means wetter and windier summers
2013, 2016
2013 and 14 16 was hit and miss
Nah 2018, 2019, and 2020 were all baking hot summers in the uk!
2010, 2013, 2018 & 2020 had hot heatwaves.
@robotracking Same here.
I want this in Summer 2012. Although I would ideally want it to hit 40 degrees C as it never has before >.<
It practically rained all year in 2012.
And people are whining right now about the temperature 🤷♀️
Do remember that here in the UK we don't have AC Systems in UK Houses and Flats, only UK Supermarkets have them

Generally speaking though.. Oh hello! XD

And to think that people are moaning about climate change now. It’s not a new thing, it’s just cool to talk about it now.
Do remember that climate change is all real and is down to the immense damage that humabs are still doing to the Planet
