I am so tired of the failure of Wendell's "histories" to include the position of my grandfather, William Robert Nowell. There have been several such "histories," and he has not gotten his due. Not only did he own the FIRST drug store in town (opened 1910), he was twice mayor, a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Wendell, and owned two farms in the area. The store is located in the building which still stands at Main Street and Academy Street. Grandpa Nowell died in 1956. I do not have a problem with this "history" mentioning all the people, businesses and events that it does. I do not expect a "history" to mention all prominent people. But I contend that my Grandpa's place in the history of the town should be recognized -- prominently!

Not sure of the birthplace of the narrator, but after informing you of the correct pronunciation, she MIS-PRONOUNCES it at least a dozen times afterward! LOL One of my pet peeves... I was born there and it is almost ALWAYS mispronounced by local broadcasters;... WRAL being the worst!
