- Mansfield (near Nottingham) is a large market town and the administrative centre of Mansfield District in Nottinghamshire, England. Let's have a look around the town centre!
Also watch our video of Nottingham Christmas Market - • NOTTINGHAM CHRISTMAS M...
We thought we'd venture to Nottinghamshire to wander round Mansfield Town Centre to see what's there, what shops and markets we can find and see what's happening there today!
Mansfield is the largest town in the wider Mansfield Urban Area. It gained the Royal Charter of a market town in 1227. The town lies in the Maun Valley, 12 miles north of Nottingham and near Sutton-in-Ashfield
Mansfield is Nottinghamshire’s largest market town, located right on the edge of the beautiful countryside, perfect for relaxing walks and easy access to woodland areas of Sherwood Forest. Spend a few hours exploring Thieves Wood and Fountaindale, both located a few miles to the south of the town centre with close links to the Robin Hood legend.
On the outskirts of Mansfield as you venture closer to Sherwood Forest, you’ll find Robin Hood's Wheelgate Park, a theme park with lots of rides and activities for children aged 5-12. Take a ride on the Mini Mine coaster or squirt each other on the bumper boats. Close by is White Post Farm Centre, giving you the opportunity to get up close to some beautiful animals, including goats, deer, pigs, meerkats and even wallabies.
Take the short walk down Leeming Street in Mansfield into the town centre where you will be greeted with an excellent shopping experience. The market in Mansfield is still a very vibrant place for traders and remains at the heart of the town centre.
Just outside of Mansfield, in Mansfield Woodhouse, you'll find i-Jump Trampoline Park, which is the perfect place for all the family to get fit and have fun. With over 55 interconnected trampolines, this is the perfect place for you to put your aerobatic skills to the test!
With a very vibrant nightlife, a large range of shops and a wealth of attractions close by, Mansfield remains a popular and proud place for many residents. We love Mansfield and if you head there, you’ll understand why.
Mansfield, town and district, administrative and historic county of Nottinghamshire, England, on the River Maun. Mansfield was the chief town of Sherwood Forest-the legendary base for the activities of Robin Hood, the medieval robber and popular hero-and the forest court was held in the town’s Moot Hall (built 1752).
The population of Mansfield grew with the 19th-century expansion of coal mining and the hosiery industry, and both remain major local employers of labour. Hard red and white sandstone quarried near the town of Mansfield Woodhouse, 2 miles (3 km) north of Mansfield, was used to build the Houses of Parliament at Westminster. The district also includes the town of Warsop and part of Sherwood Forest.

We’re coming over to check it out in 3 years. I’ve always wanted to. Michael, Mansfield Ohio
Wouldn't bother. Nothing here, an absolute dump tbh
I remember when Mansfield was a thriving market town, every shop was busy and the marketplace was absolutely full of wonderful stalls. It used to be such a prosperous town, now it looks like a ghost town. So sad.
True
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I was actually thinking about moving there and buy my house but in light of what you said here it would be probably a bad idea. Dover might be same or better.
Another great & fantastic video of
MANSFIELD!.💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
👍👍👍
My hometown. It has really suffered from a LOT of neglect, and the loss of the big names like BHS, Debenhams, Too Shop, etc, etc - there are a multitude of empty shops and boarded up windows. Like a lot of places our local Council overcharges on rents to businesses and market traders, it’s left a once beautiful, vibrant and proud town little more than a rundown dump. It’s a shame - we have some brilliant ppl living here, and proud locals who despair at the decline. But we have a great MP, who is trying to raise our little town back up. Hope he succeeds.
whos that then? all local MPs have destroyed this place.not one is any good
Fingers crossed he can make a difference
It’s tough times for town centres all over the country at the moment
@@jameslewis9898 Big names haven't ruined local business
It's simply that local businesses havent' evolved with the times (online etc)
Ben Bradley don't do shit for Mansfield. Have you actually looked up his voting record.
@@Loundsify you clearly know your stuff … 🤣🤣
Llike a 2nd home throughout the 1990's, Mansfield holds a special place in my memories. Looks a damn sight better than my hometown of Stockport. R.I.P Venue44 belvedere street 💔
Oooh I need to film Stockport actually
@@GimbalWalkTV Oh please do, i'll watch out for that. Visit the war shelters in the town centre when you visit, £5 but worth it. Its a bit run down but lots of nice architecture and the market area is pretty good. Thank you for all the great videos 👍
Venue 44 was awesome!!!
It’s 10 years since I worked in Mansfield. Thanks for the chance to reminisce 😊
Our pleasure!
I don't think I've ever walked through Mansfield before? I believe a train to Mansfield then bus to Sherwood Forest. Mansfield looks like a great shopping town with many of the stand byes and also some unique ones too. Thanks for the chance to check out Mansfield! :)
Don’t
Looks a bit run down in places but so does many other places. Thanks for a look around and keep on walking 👍👍🚶♂️🚶♂️
I live in Sutton in Ashfield nearby but I have also lived and worked in Mansfield before. The years have not been kind to either. Lack of funding and investment really kill these kinds of towns. The lack of big named retail doesn't help either.
So true
From my travels one thing I will say is that I don’t think retail can be relied upon anymore after moving online
Until town centres are lived in more and aren’t just offices and shops I think anywhere will struggle
That’s what happens when people vote Tory lol
there is no lack only plc n corporations that steal from us all registered in foreign counties..but you know right
I love this town hoping to move here from Wolverhampton some point in the next 6 months or so
are you serious?!
In Light of comments you can read here I dont know if it's the best strategy. What do you think?
There are some lovely buildings but where were all the people? It seemed so dead, even around the market.
What was the statue of the man in the beginning trying to hold up? Liked the Mansfield 's Christmas 🎄 with large round lights, looks more festive in my opinion. Greed with rents are killing many businesses, not just in Mansfield, UK , but this world. Thank you.
Many thanks for showing us another great video...👍👍
My pleasure
I live in Sutton-in-Ashfield, don't go to Mansfield much nowadays since debenhams etc closed. Nice town in itself tho xx
Would you recommend Sutton-in-Ashfield or Mansfield as a place to live? I currently live down South and am considering moving up North due to the difference in house prices.
@@molly26189 it's not too bad,I'd say Mansfield more than Sutton in Ashfield x
@@JulieBrooks66 Thankyou!
I just hit the subscribe button! I'm currently living in south korea but going to move in my bf's flat in mansfield this August so I was like searching for some infos about mansfield and here i am!
Ah perfect! Good look with the move - hope it all goes well for you!
My hometown and thanks gimbal walk TV for touring Mansfield and by the way I want to know what is your name?
Mansfield… may we reunite some day 😢
We know Mansfield & visit whenever, you got it spot on in the town a good video....... Suggestion to visit is Tetbury town in the Cotswolds,we have been their was great.
Good recommendation thank you!
It's a dump. Lived my entire life in Mansfield. All major shops gone, mining jobs gone, brewery gone, gas board and EMEB gone, Shoe Factory gone, do I need to go on. Some levelling up! Forgotten by many years of Tory Government but the people of Mansfield blame Labour, go figure!
True 👍👍
The town was already in a state before the Conservatives returned to power in 2010. The financial crash of 08 hit the town hard and has never recovered since. The smoking ban brought in the year prior under Labour saw the closure of a lot of the town's pubs and clubs. The Covid-19 pandemic has only made it much worse.
There’s so many jobs going at the moment, lots of opportunities, but some don’t want to work😊
I live there! It's not a dump.
Labour did nothing for Mansfield either.
The council has always been Labour dominated, a brief period under independents.
We've had an executive mayor since 2006, dominated by Labour. We had a Labour MP for thirty years, everyone called him 'silent knight' because he never spoke in parliament.
The problem with Mansfield like most former industrial towns is bad management.
It starts from early age, kids soon realise there's little opportunity locally, the good paying jobs went with manufacturing thirty years ago, so they leave the town.
The town then becomes an ideal place to put people, whether that be refugees or homeless from other areas, or even Londoners moving up to a plush brand new estate because it's so much cheaper.
With this the soul of the place disappears, the community is gone and in its place is nothing but a void.
we need a wiper on ya camera, nice short one, not as bigger market than others we ve seen, nice all the same, onwards
Definitely need a wiper! 🤣🤣
Not as busy nowadays like it was back in 80s
Try chesterfield it's not far from Mansfield. Any thursday . They have a decent flee market .
Thank you
I just filmed Chesterfield but in a day with no market so will have to go back and do it again I think!
Never been there before looked very chilly.
It is the midlands
The uk is definitely not chsnging for the better..in my eyes a deliberate act
Ok
A lot of posters are saying how rundown it looks. I can not agree. It has a magnificent market square and an impressive viaduct complementing well-kept streets that are free of graffiti and general urban clutter.
Even the modern shopping centre blends in with the architectural mood of its surroundings. Let us not forget that this was shot on a damp, cloudy day.
True
I will be back in summer
The viaduct is the oldest in England as well sorry if you already knew
The market used to be much better than it is today. The square was completely rammed with stalls going up West Gate as far as the Library.
@@e-landhistory4866 No apologies needed T.E.R, I didn't know that. Many thanks.
@@e-landhistory4866 Older than Stockports?
What was that monument supposed to be?
good video commentary wd make it better
Oh my word - I just realised I've uploaded it without the commentary!
My error - can't believe I did that!
@@GimbalWalkTV ok mate glad I could help lol
Ain’t as bad as Slough
Not filmed Slough yet - that will be fun 😀
From near by in ollerton. Only go mansfield for the dentist and drugs. What a shit hole lol. You won't get robbed or attacked there but it just grim
I just go there for the doctors and dentist other than that I stay well clear
Does Mansfield have trams?
Also does it have good transport links?
Not trams but buses and trains
No trams but good transport links.
Thanks for your reply
Have you been there long ...could you rate it on a 1 to 10...10 being good.
Oh I don't live there. I just went there to film this one!
It's -10
when was this video taken?
Can't remember
Thanks mate, whats it like to live in Mansfield?
Not sure to be honest!
Beautiful b. I live there!
Terrible. I'd move in a heartbeat, probably will when my lad has left school
Sadly, this was every bit as bleak as I expected. Grew up in Mansfield and don't know anyone that speaks fondly of it.
You should watch The Macmaster on RUclips. Mansfield born and bred and proud of it!
Ps have u gimbled wroxham yet?
I've done Wrexham but not Wroxham
@@GimbalWalkTV wroxham is fantastic, Norfolk Broads 🎣🎣🎣
Was at college there in the late 80s. Truly one of the worst towns in the whole of the UK and I have travelled pretty much everywhere. Its that bad, just a sense of despair and decay. Anyone trying to pretend this place has any redeeming features is deluded!
Crikey 😮😮
I lived in Mansfield into my early twenties. The town centre used to be a thriving and interesting place to visit. Times are harder now and people are continually crying out for reductions in council tax but then wondering why the town has turned into a shit hole. sorry to say, you can't have it both ways.
In the 70's it was a prosperous dump, sadly it is just the latter now 😞
wow... 30 years plus since I left that shit hole be hide and it's not changed 1 bit, same pub names, same betting shops. Even the 1980's MacDonald's. it's like time forgot to update this town. soooo sad. Glad I left though.
I agree with you totally shit hole
Same I absolutely hate the place
Such a shame that this place is full of benefits scroungers, there’s some lovely buildings.
Benefits scroungers?
Still better than chesterfield 😂
😮😮😮
My 2nd favourite town to go. Beats shthole cities like Derby and Nottingham.
Dump
😮
Yep
Shut up, you don't even have a home.
1.37 that boarded building got busted for a big grow.
How is Mansfield different from Chesterfield and
which one is better to buy property in ?
Love Mansfield.
