  • The now historic Phil Donahue Show broadcast of March 1993, sets the stage for the dramatic revelations about the Catholic Church clergy sex abuse scandal. Donahue was on top of this issue from the very beginning, broadcasting his first show on the topic in 1988. This 1993 show features Toledo, Ohio victim Barbara Blaine who had already founded SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests. Jason Berry had recently published his groundbreaking investigative report on early abuse cases then surfacing around the country, including the story of Louisiana priest Gilbert Gauthe. Fr. Andrew Greeley talks about his new novel, "Fall From Grace" which centers around a priest immersed in sex allegations in his own parish. This program was broadcast 9 years before The Boston Globe exposed the decades-long sex crimes cover-up in the Archdiocese of Boston, MA.
