    • @macieksoft
      @macieksoft 9 месяцев назад

      It is called ET for "external tank". Space shuttle had 3 fuel cells, but they were inside the orbiter. Fuel cells were meant for making energy from cryogenic oxygen and hydrogen also creating water in the process. Journalists however are very unaware of the correct naming of the stuff. They always seems to mess everything up. Never give a Space Shuttle to a journalist ;-)

      @@fpshimanshuyadav171 sure thing. after 10 seconds of "studying", i found out what the fuel cells are! nasa.gov states
      " Fuel cells are used in the space shuttle as one component of the electrical power system. Three fuel cell power plants, through a chemical reaction, generate all of the electrical power for the vehicle from launch through landing rollout.
      Before launch, electrical power is provided by ground power supplies and the onboard fuel cell power plants. Each fuel cell power plant consists of a power section, where the chemical reaction occurs, and a compact accessory section attached to the power section, which controls and monitors the power section's performance.
      The three fuel cell power plants are individually coupled to the reactant (hydrogen and oxygen) distribution subsystem, the heat rejection subsystem, the potable water storage subsystem, and the electrical power distribution and control subsystem. The fuel cell power plants generate heat and water as by-products of electrical power generation.
      The excess heat is directed to fuel cell heat exchangers, where the excess heat is rejected to Freon coolant loops. The water is directed to the potable water storage subsystem."
      to me, that looks like fuel cells are for electricity generation, not for powering the RS-25 engines.

      Buzzmas that’s strange, I suppose it’s different in rocketry, but in motorsports the only difference is that fuel cells are custom-built fuel tanks that can withstand high-level impacts whereas fuel tanks are just factory tanks

  • @13_cmi
    @13_cmi 3 года назад +3

    That just shows how big those rockets and shuttles are. From a distance and on video they don't look to big but in reality they're huge. I saw that massive shuttle a while ago and it seems a lot bigger in person. Same with planes. There's a museum at an old airport in my city and the propellers seem massive and the actual plane is super chunky.
