Watch this for the first time in 2021. It's still so relevant!

If only more parents were as caring and accepting that these folks are.

A beautifully told personal stories that I believe should be shown in schools and to members of the PTA. Parents need to see this to learn that it's more than NOT the "end of the world" if their child is gay but rather, it can open up a whole NEW world.Kids need to see it so those too unsure or frightened can see that it IS possible to receive love and support from those closest to them.

Beautiful video. Especially moving is how the love and support of parents means so much to their children. Thanks for sharing.

A very well-done documentary. Thoughtful, articulate and idiosyncratic people with extraordinary things to say.

This film is still very relevant 22 years later , even with all the progress being made in the laws there are still many parents who need their eyes opened and their hearts and minds decluttered of a few religious passages from thousands of years ago and just love their children and be glad they were fortunate enough to have them at all .

i hope that one day my mom can be as outspoken as those parents.

You know what, sorry for the flippant comment. The diversity of voices, the excellent editing, the honesty with which the parents talk about their struggles, the blindness of the fundamentalist family juxtaposed with the horrible realizations of Bobby's mother - it's a document that I hope is helpful to a lot of families. But that song…

This film looks fairly old but it still is inspiring even as it makes me sad that my mother died not KNOWING me, my dad told me once after he found out (I didn't tell him because I was afraid of how he would react) that she suspected I was gay but I never told her so she died never knowing the son she had, now that my father is also gone I am glad he knew because he did get to know the real me.

For the parents who have multiple kids, that fact that one of them turns out gay while the others turn out straight provides some evidence that sexual orientation is inborn. These parents weren't providing vastly different environmental factors for their kids to produce different orientations in the same family. Ada Ramos "knew" her ~6 yr old son Carlos would grow up gay. Paul Yee was an evenhanded father & felt it was unfair his two straight children would have easier lives than gay son Craig.

Bobby's mom reminds me of Patrick Swayze in Tu Wung Foo. Sucks that Bobby felt like he had to kill himself. Where were all the anti-bullying campaigns then? Glad to know that things really HAVE gotten better.

Great documentary . the Black woman and Asian man are both the accepting and caring parents that gay people need as they understand that it is not a choice!! The relgious parents (23.00) are a gay persons nightmare, and I only feel sorry for the little baby the mother is holding as she is bound grow up and taught to be the narrow minded religious bigot that the mother and father are.

This was terrific, except for the song at the end which was basically unbearable.

I'm mad at people who don't have enough of a mind to think for themselves when they have protection readily available.

I just love "Miss Family Values" at 20:48, her Husband will eventually get caught on GRINDR & that kid will rebel against their repressive intolerant upbringing & end up in Rehab.

I am mad at the religious community, because if they didn't limit protection against STDs then a lot of people would still be alive.

i dont agree the only difference between gay life and straight life is the person who they attracted to male or female someone is straight their life isnt gonna be better i believe who you are is just that my mom accepted me coming out at 19 then transition at 21
ppl need to stop worrying about what others gonna think
