    My family owned property in Talkeetna 1980 - 1997. I grew up there... yes, it's certainly changed. Additionally - loved seeing the footage of Full Tilt at the end! I was best buds with Sandy's daughter, we considered ourselves the official roadies. (Hah!) We were with them frequently. Happy New Year!

    I loved your video. I have visited Talkeetna several times, home being Wyoming, but want to be in Talkeetna. Wyoming is lovely, but getting busy all the time, all year around. It's changed drastically over the past 30 years. I stay at the Roadhouse and eat breakfast and lunch there. Drink at the Fairview and talk to the locals. Found dinner at Nagleys.

    Great video. Such an interesting past and people. You were lucky to be a part of it. I love thinking back to our town when i was growing up. There was no one here. We would ride our bikes to the beach when we were about 12. Never had to worry. I grew up in Sarasota Fl. The infamous Siesta Key. Ran that island my whole life. Now you cant even get out there, the traffic is so bad. Ready to move back to the PNW. Couple more years and we are out of here again.

    I was there for 3 weeks, camping about a mile from town, 1979, May I think, on a month leave from 29 Palms Marine Corps Base. Some local lent me a double barrel 12 gauge, loaded with buckshot. He said the bears were lean, waiting for the fish. He had me practice ejecting the rounds and quickly reloading, telling me jump aside if charged by a grizzly, and to fire broadside into it. I met John Watterman at the store, who had just done 142 days alone on Mt. Hunter. He was getting ready to climb Denali, alone, a trip from which he never returned from, never to be seen again. It was a quiet town then.

    Four facts that make Talkeetna undeniably cool:
    1) It is the home of K2 Aviation and jump off point for Denali expeditions;
    2) There’s a yearly bachelor auction;
    3) It’s home to the Talkeetna Bluegrass Festival, and
    4) The official mayor used to be a cat.
    the official mayor was a cat is undeniably cool.

    Great video on Talkeetna. But about the mountain climbers who die on Denali, I just don’t understand why people would head up knowing so many before them died. More power to them, but it’s not something that appeals to me.

    • @backtoalaska6755
      @backtoalaska6755  Месяц назад

      Yeah...I don't get it either! They spend thousands and thousands of dollars too, so even if they have a successful climb (that doesn't kill them) the investment is immense on so many levels! It's quite a powerful addiction I guess! Whatever!
