Fellow Houstonian! I had a dark green 1971 Pinto I received new when in high school. In the late 70’s I swapped in a 302 using Herbert & Meek motor mounts and Gapp & Rousch headers. Vega gt springs and a v8 bellhousing with a B& M converter. I was a mechanical newbie and made every boneheaded mistake you could think of. But I learned and it ended up a very fun car to drive!
The Ford pinto was a competitor to the Chevy Vega. The pinto ran circles around the engineering nightmare of the Vega. Aluminum engine with chrome moly piston rings was a failure. The pinto ran and ran and ran, very reliable. Timing belt replacement was all that I ever replaced on my pinto's, I Owens three and have no complaints.👍
Superb. Sort of my dream car I never got to. My idea was along the lines of an old school funny car with the engine mounted under the windshield and the seats moved to the rear. Good luck with this one.

❤😂😢😮😮😮😅😊😊😊😊 I know it says four years ago, but I like to see something newer if you still have the pinto and I hope you do because that one bad ass Pinto
Ok...so....in Australia, Ford stuck with the Cleveland archedecture all the way until 1982...so there are some pretty great OEM and aftermarket Cleveland parts to be had from the Land Down Under. Particularly heads.
❤😂😢😮😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 that’s one clean nice 71 Pinto I wish I could find another Pinto but they’re hard to find. Let me know if you find one I want to fix up one again I had a 72. It was fast with the 302 from a Mustang.
Never had a V8 in the front but with the 2.8l V6 I used a set of headers for a ranger and mounted them so they pointed forward. It's a tight fit in the engine compartment for sure. Plenty of folks have made V8 headers work in a normal configuration though.
The issue was with the gas tank hitting the rear diff on impact. Ford made a kit that was a plastic shield that got installed between the two. Mine had it when I bought it. Drove stock and never had any issues. Eventually I installed a fuel cell when I was driving around but I think it was less safe than the stock setup. Eventually my tank will be in the front so it'll be a different issue. Sort of got a bad wrap though. The exploding pinto was at s dead stop on the side of the road and got hit at 70mph if I remember correctly. With any old car under those forces ... Bad news.
@@texanmotoworks4274 I had Fords modification done to my 351 mid engined Pinto and along with the shield they installed a longer fuel fill tube that went into the gas tank farther. It was sealed with a rubber grommet which I felt was more of an issue.

A friend on Maui, had a NASCAR 289 with Cleveland heads. You have nothing over him!

I'd go with a 2.3 turbo , an SVO Pinto?

I had one just like that 289 HO in it.
Have you tried a seat in it? I built a 351 Windsor powered Pinto years ago and set the engine/trans back in the car about 18".

Chi heads are definitely on the list!

brother, were you able to solve the problem of the dangerous car explosion? Tell me how please.

Any more progress?
Where did you get that hood at 1:13?
Or do you want to sell it?
