Dang that's some good model special effects with the planes. It looks like the best Japanese studio work. I must see this movie again. Clint Walker was the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the Fifties. He had a lot of charisma and acting chops, just like the later generation's Arnold does.
This film is so amazing, but sad at the same time. This film makes you feel bad for the Japanese. I grew up watching many of the 1950s World War 2 films on VHS. I love the modal planes because they look almost real. I just love Clint Walker may he rest in peace.
I love ww2 movies, so this was a pleasant surprise, when it turned up on one of the local streaming services. And yes, it may appear better for those of us that know the actors, and are used to the look and feel of older movies. You kids will understand when you get older - or maybe that nostalgic feeling for older things is gone forever with the new "easy come, easy go" internett world.
(A.K.A. The Adventures of Daniel Boone and the Las Vegas Lounge Act) I'm sorry folks, but when a movie contains a memorable lines like "I smell a grenade","it's my loving arm" "That's a radio!", it makes me roll on the floor laughing. The Captain is a cartoon-ish stereotype. Plus Frankie was so involved with his Rat-Pack persona that I was expecting him to bust out singing "I Get A Kick Out Of You": while Dino, Sammy and Joey Bishop coming on the screen rolling in the liquor cart! (How else can you explain all that drinking alcohol Frankie was passing around?)
The lieutenant or sergeant i cant remember his rank but it was the one that couldnt act worth a crap, just happened to be Frank Sinatra's nephew i believe, thats the only reason he got a part in the movie.
What was burning within the fuselage of the C-47 to cause that oily black smoke? A Godzilla costume? Two aircrew killed and the Marines are intact? HA! Amazing how many of these same actors appeared in so many WW2 movies in the day, even "Posey"!

Totally agree, especially the guy playing the young lieutenant. Dear God, who told him to speak in that ridiculous voice. I normally know how good or bad a 60s Hollwood War Movie is going to be by the number of the cast chewing in Stogies
It’s over-the-top screen writing. They did that back then. Pull your head out of your ass and appreciate the context. I’m a Canadian who served in Afghanistan for 2 tours. I even think it’s over the top, but they had restrictions back then, and that’s when HollyWood started to go down hill. I respect your view and appreciate it. I like how they film it. Is it 9mm cameras?
Yes, it is a classic. Definitely worth a viewing.
I missed the German soldier in this one!
Always loved that film. They did a very good job with those aircraft. Got more details right than Hollywood usually did in those days, or even now.

I got to say the miniatures shots are some of the best miniature shots of that film era very nicely done especially the crash

Clint Walker was a huge man at the time, I believe 6-6 at the time. He played Posey in the Dirty Dozen. Great actor and great Human being.
None but the
brave
could handle watching the whole movie today
The air battle is cheesy but the remainder of the film is a must watch! Frank gives a some what subdued performance which fits the movie very well.
Revell made him do it. Those plastic model kit planes.
At least they got the color scheme right for the R4D Skytrain.
Got this movie Dvr'd..classic

Not since the ground breaking Rescue From Gilligan's Island has an airplane crash scene captured the raw horror of the event.
