"Indo" Guyanese are there since the 1830's almost 200 years removed from india ok? - They are there in Guyana originally as indentured servants and left India back when India was a starving , beaten nation by the Britsh. The same British that the Indians invited in to help them fight their fellow indians. That's when my, and his, ancestors left India. When the British came looking for cheap labor to work in Guyana and Trinidad, our ancestors left india because there was nothing there for them, and i think that was a very scary and brave thing that they did. Im very proud of my Indo caribbean heritage, we have built our own unique culture. We dont have castes, we dont have waring over religion- we celebrate each others holidays, we don't have clans . I dont identify with India culturally, I identify with them from an original race background. I don't say " I'm indian"- not ever. Because im not from india and I know hardly anything about India linguistically or culturally. Im a very proud Guyanese. And before you Indians start sayng one word about us being descendents from indentured servants, remember you were being demeaned and robbed and beaten by the british in your own country the difference is, we ended up better off in the long run.
