Awesome video....I just camped there Wednesday night Feb 22 and it is always awesome but they are a week away from peak but still Beautiful...I always go in the first two weeks of March but got swayed by social media a bit even tho I new better...I always do unnamed but it is a tough one...This was the first time I did it with my full pack on for camping...Nice job on you videos🙌
Thanks so much for watching! Last year I went March 6 and it was glorious! This year things seemed to be blooming a bit earlier AND this was my one opportunity to actually go this year (kid's travel ball schedules lol).
@@BootsontheTrail I understand that...Yes I was March 5 last year and even March 12 the year before...but they can go quick after they peak so better to be early than late...
Those don't always appear on a lot of maps. White Oak Stand is worth doing at least once to have the experience and it is the shortest route down to the flats, it just doesn't have much more to offer: it is steep (similar to Pinch In) with little to no views (unlike Pinch In). I only took it to be able to bushwack over to the falls and to have a different path back out than how I went in.
Fair warning, it is a beast to get to whichever route you take. The creek walk route is rough and the side excursion from White Oak Stand route (which I took) has a few steep scrambles down (and back up). Study your maps, know your limitations, and I highly suggest having some emergency rope. That being said, HAVE FUN! 35.82919, -81.92392
@@BootsontheTrail Thanks man turns out it was on the avenza map the whole time and I am blind 😅. Appreciate the coordinates man and safety first always no doubt! The amount of rescues at daffodil alone every year are wild!
I’ve always been a little afraid to hike this trail bc everyone talks about how hard it is. Would you say it’s steeper than Stone Mountain? I’ve done that twice.
Thanks for watching! It is much steeper than Stone Mountain. 3 of the 4 main trails to access Daffodil Flats have anywhere from 1200' to 1700' elevation gain in the last mile climbing out without much relief... it is just a relentless climb. That 4th route is much easier but adds several miles to the hike.
@@BootsontheTrail Thank you for the prompt reply! I will be subscribing! Is it safe to stop and rest on the last steep part back up? I really want to do this hike but maybe I need to work my way up and do it next year. To me Stone Mountain isn’t too bad. I mean it’s not easy (starting left) but not difficult for me. Do you suggest a hike between these two? Difficulty wise.
@@unity863 I honestly don't know of anyone who doesn't stop on the way back up to rest, lol! Just understand that hiking in Linville Gorge is typically more difficult that most other areas due to the steepness. You may want to try hiking Shortoff Mountain in the Gorge at some point to get an idea but it still doesn't not replicate any of the routes to Daffodil Flats; it may be a good in-between hike. my video of it is here but it was quite foggy/rainy on the first half so there isn't much to see on the climb (to summit Short-off is not near the distance we did on this trip). Daffodil Flats sits at the bottom directly across from Shortoff as well so you will be able to have a bird's eye view of those routes and how steep they are. Can you go in and out on Pinnacle?
Absolutely! That is what most people do, I just wanted to make a loop out of it.
