I've been into photography off and on for about 40 years now. I subscribed to a couple of very popular RUclips photographers in the past couple of years to try to up my game. This is the second video I've watched of Pat's and between the two, I've learned so much more than the others that I decided to unsubscribe from the others and focus on Mr. Kay. Pat, you have an excellent formula here, keep up the great work!
I've been a photographer for almost 10 years, so decided I should up my game. This video has been the most informative, logical and straightforward one for pricing that I have ever come across. Despite knowing almost all aspects, learning about 'emotional costs' from you was something I never considered and it is a game changer for pricing! I've already referenced it twice and will definitely share it with fellow photographer friends. Big thanks to you, Pat! 🙏❤
Great video. I’d recommend that freelancers add a little money to your price you give clients to help pay for taxes. Don’t let it all come out of your hourly rate. (Bump that up.) Freelancers are their own boss and have to pay taxes to. If you’ve had a regular job that money was taken out before you got paid and the employer paid for some Social Security. (In the US.) Also consider adding a little bit to pay for your own healthcare. (A very big expensive issue in the US.) All of Pats advice is spot on! Thanks! (I’m not an accountant. Find one! They’re lifesavers.)
As a starter photographer, I’ve struggled with coming up with a number to give my clients when they ask for a photoshoot. This has definitely helped outline the cost. Thank you so much Pat! You’ve earned yourself a subscriber! 🙏🏽
I have watched three videos so far about pricing. Yours is the best. I recommend this video to many people who want to know how to rate and still need to check out the rest of your videos. Thanks for this, really!
I’ve been doing photography for fun and ever since I found your video’s you’ve helped me improve soo much more and I’ve been considering to be professional thanks to you😬
Very helpful video! I'm in the field of content writing and digital marketing, but want to soon start expanding my work into photography and go solo (not working for a single business) on all things to create my own brand. What I've struggled most with is evaluating the price of my work, but this helped me feel more confident in giving value to what I do.
This video is a gem, not only for photographers but for anyone who look to provide any services. Now what tickle my mind after looking it is is : How to price a print ? I know this is more than a year this video was released, but who know, this can be a good subject for another video. Bests
This is so insightful and there were so many things you brought up that I never considered. Definitely gonna apply a bunch of these for my next few gigs. Being a part timer photographer on the side is useful since I can see what works and doesn’t work 😂
Thank you so much for presenting this information in a very clear and streamlined way. I really appreciate clicking on a video and getting all the information I was looking for right up front! Keep up the great work!
i just had to stop this video because my mind is going crazy now haha! This video finally helped me to go forward with my thinking. Im not going to jump now, but i can practis now with pricings =) Thank u very very much! The way u talk is just going deep into my mind. U habe this relaxed way of giving away knowlage. I cant express my words as good as u can, and i rarely comment stuff. But this triggered me very much!
Great video! Thank you for sharing and educating. I do a completely different style of photography, but love the idea of travel photography. Great work! ✌🏼
Thank you Pat! I would like to ask about pricing for prints as well as whether you are free as a photographer to use any of the photos you've taken to sell as prints?
Such a great video ! i discovered your channel a few days ago and I really appreciate your content. Everything is just clean, clear, interesting, ... great job !! one more happy, involved follower
Thanks for the time you put into these videos. So you charge for the time and then for editing of the pbotos? I just wasnt sure. Im going to rewatch the video.
I really enjoyed this break down. My wife and I are getting serious with our work and want to set a solid price. This helped tremendously! I do have one question regarding the hourly rates route. How do you factor in editing time within this budget?
Great video! I started following you because of tutorials and also your street photography POV. Hope you share more street photography POV in the future.
Hi! Great way to look at things. Just wondering why you don't amortize the cost of equipment (cameras, computers, etc...), repairs, mileage of car to get to and fro, etc.. - or do you put that somewhere in your variable costs?
Thanks man ! This video really helps me a lot ! I have a question , but my English is not good enough , i`ll type it in Chinese , hope you don't mind haha. 這樣兩個情況獲得的報酬是一樣600$的,請問若是您會如何調整呢 ? thank you for taking the time !
Great advice at 9:38, get it on paper , text message , email. something! get it written down and acknowledged. Verbal agreements are not biding in court unless you have the voice recording , if you do not have a contract with signatures, people change really quickly after the work is done and it comes to the money. Family , friend, close friend , seriously get it in writing. text message is binding . ( I do Titanium micro welding) I'll send one text message or email while talking to the client, goes like this " hey Matt here just sending this email as we talk, We both agree to these terms (terms here) please reply yes if you agree. When it comes to money do this. it'll save you , it will save you. but we all must learn the hard way :) Thank you for the video. Great advice , Great mentoring
Hi Pat, just wondering what your thoughts are on licensing, particularly here in Australia? I'm struggling with potential clients understanding it. I've also gone from quoting for it separately to building it into my quoted rates instead. Still having issues with offering a particular duration for the license as opposed to perpetual. Thanks!
Here in Brazil, if you charge the equivalent to 76 AUD(300 Brazilian Real), for the ENTIRE JOB, it is considered too expensive for 90% of the public for a photo session with 10 LinkedIn/Professional ordinary photos.
Luckly I investigated top photographers rate near friends who hired them, and since my level of quality is almost the same, I am charging the same. But even so, I have more No's than yes, cause the economy here in Europe, and perception of the phography value sucks a lot. 8k euros per month ( 150 000 Australian Dollar 102 675,00 Euro), by your math is a dream come true...I wish!!
Hello Patkay! This just came very useful to me as I'm in the process of figuring out how to charge my photography service as it comes to value to others. I believe you are also a drone users; do you think it makes sense to charge an extra premium as drone contents pose more risk than ground photography? (Eg the risk of crashing it and also authority aspect such as licenses and permissions) Advance thanks if you reply to this. Cheers
You have never shot a wedding then, I know weddings that have paid me $8000+ it’s one off the most critical points, memories…so please go take your cheapness and go shoot your wedding for free on your iPhone
@@elusivemindsstudios I understand that sort of price for a videographer, but not a photographer. Of course it’s valuable to have good photos, but thousands and thousands of dollars for one day of work seems a bit much to me 🤷♂️

really like listening to you, thanks man!
Do you add post production fees on top of the flat daily rates, or are post production fees included in the day rate?
Would you suggest a person to obtain LLC to get started ?
Just hit 3 years in December but I’m still struggling with pricing perfectly for people in my city

I still can’t figure out why wedding photographers are charging SO MUCH MONEY. 1200+ for a few hours is absolutely ludicrous
