Not only that, OnePlus still includes a charger, the SuperVooc brick, which absorbs much of the heat when changing. It takes only 30 minutes to charge the phone from 20% to 90%. The OP 15 is my fifth OnePlus phone and I really like it.
They did a program for a few models like the 6a and 7a where Google offers a choice between a free repair or a fairly chunky compensatory value. If it's not super old, you should look up your model.
@random_n in europe it was like 60 dollars if you sent them the repair receipt, but the problem was there were no batteries, I had 10 costumers waiting for them and most of them just got new phones before the batteries shipped
@random_nonly if the rest of the phone was in good shape. My pixel 7a had a crack across the top of the screen and they quoted me $350 to replace the battery that was swelling so bad it popped the seal on the back cover. Immensely disappointed in my pixel
They are worried about the PR. The exploding Samsung Notes was a huge story and really hurt the brand for a long time. The Note brand still hasn't been the same since. These are huge companies that are playing it safe. All it takes is one story about a newish phone catching fire while some toddler holds it to ruin a phone generation or tarnish a brand entirely. Sure they care about profit margins and would likely not actually care about the safety of the toddler but they do care about PR and marketing which is what actually sells a phone.
Longevity? Did you actually watch the video. No one wants to take Samsung's title for "Fire gate". This isn't about longevity. It's about keeping your company from going out of business. Hello? Is anyone there?
Yeah, the same companies that hack into your phone to slow them down and drain batteries faster, so you buy new, phones. This video is pure lobby propaganda and he got paid for this yapping.
They should, I for example will NEVER buy a Samsung again after my Note 10 receiving only 3 major updates. I know nowadays they promise way more support, but the ship sailed and I'm not coming back. Same way with Xiaomi, after some years of updates the OS became mostly a ad hell.
I just got my first *Silicon Carbon Battery* phone yesterday _( haven't even transferred everything yet )_ so remind me in 2 years to come back and update this post!
@dgbooser265I have had a good search and no higher risk as been observed compared to standard battery tech, and I can't find any silicone carbon battery fire, been shown.
@AyOri1991 yes it should? He’s been talking about Silicon Carbon batteries and questioning why more phone companies aren’t using them for a while now it’d be weird to not talk about it when he found out the answer
It is the future, and full solid state batteries are under development. That solid state car battery company is suspicious, but a real solid state battery will be inevitable.
Me too. Got the Honor Magic V5 which comes with a 6000mah sc batt. I'm not so sure about if I like that. Standby drain seems to be much higher than which I was used to with Sammy foldables
I would seriously recommend reporting the video. Purely because this is straight up misinformation on OnePlus and Silicon Carbon technology as a whole, based solely on hearsay. I wouldn't be surprised if the people he got emails from were from Apple or Samsung.
Allegedly, the source is coming from Samsung because they're about to release their flagship phones with same old battery capacity from five years ago.
@Pentium-Pro The concerns that the battery engineers had were scientific but the problem is manageable. It's completely up to the manufacturers to guarantee safety, quality control, and use a composition that's still safe.
Feels very biased. The Note 7 had a Li-ion battery, the pixel fold did too. Not to mention the thumbnail. I think the fact that this battery tech is only used by China-based companies is more important.
Apple/Samsung/Google are complacent and in the US there is much less competition in the smartphone market. Apple can just say their "new best iPhone" lasts for "several days of use" instead of actually giving numbers and people will buy them
It's doubtful that it's geopolitics. It's also to do with corporate contracts, guarantees, and self-imposed guidelines than anything else. 1. The hottest development for these batteries are in China. There are no other sources for such batteries elsewhere. But.. many of the other batteries are also sourced from China. There's no getting around it. 2. Phone manufacturers have long-lasting relationships with suppliers, some of which are interchangeable, and others which are high-risk. Batteries are the highest risk for brand image damage. Samsung had a PR issue at a similar scale to Toyota's Acceleration crisis of 2009 to 2011. So they're paranoid about switching suppliers. Absolutely paranoid. Even when quality assurance tests are passed, a company wouldn't know how reliable the batteries are years down the road until they're tested for that long. 3. Companies always do a cost-benefit analysis for everything, whether it is reliable or not. They figured that an increased sales of phones due to higher battery capacity wouldn't offset the risk of switching battery suppliers. So they developed a wait-and-see approach. Quietly testing alternative tech but not putting them on the market. 4. Samsung and Apple are also brand-heavy compared to the Chinese market. Their brand image matters more than specifications than anything else.
He has spoken really positively about OnePlus phones in the past, I don’t know why there’d be some kind of bias against them, maybe from one of his sources but not him
Probably within the safety limits, that's why we don't really hear anything wrong about them. If there was it would be big news just like the Note7 incidents. All just fearmongering so the big 3 can convince you that you don't want the new "dangerous" tech. It's all about cost saving and selling you the same crap year after year.
@versale-j5bit's just china is developing this battery tech that's why apple Google Samsung and nothing aren't using it bcz these all are American centric companies
@versale-j5b Nailed it. Silicons been here for a while and I didn't see any shit that could make me worry about a battery that can finally last me a day without needing to charge
I would seriously recommend reporting the video. Purely because this is straight up misinformation on OnePlus and Silicon Carbon technology as a whole, based solely on hearsay. I wouldn't be surprised if the people he got emails from were from Apple or Samsung.
Because there has yet to be evidence. We'll only know what's up until 2-3 years later and companies ain't got da time and de dollah fo dat so they'll just test it to get the typical basic 'certificates' and let consumers be the guinea pig.
@bombadt-yt9818 the funny thing Si/C batteries are used for at least 3-4 years by now & no evidence found. We can wait for 20 years and point the fingers at it screaming "LOOK, ITS DANGEROUS" but at the same time a normal lithium ion will also expand and bloat at this point, it's not that uncommon to have people having an iphone 14 or 15 with a spicy pillow - the older the device the higher the chance, just usual wear & tear, a risk every single battery powered device has
@Vss077 Used by who? Used where? Used in what environtment? Look, even an Idiot like me know that the entire point isn't to completely stop battery explosion or bloating, it's just to minimize it. I'm not gonna see every single thing that has batteries in it as an explosive device. It's just I don't want to be some guinea pig of some ret[__]ded companies that tries to cut corners so their phones can come as cheap as possible while looking "premium" or have "flagship tier" performances. They put damn ADS onto their phones, why would I trust they do a minimal job to make sure the batteries work proper and last long?
I have never heard of sillicon carborn batteries blow up it has been 2 years and there has never been any case of a sillicon carborn phone battery blowing up
@skyecloud968if you don't wanna risk being 1 in a million, then sure, wait it out. In the meantime though don't get into a car as you're far more likely to have a car accident
Why is the OnePlus 15 been made to look like it's on fire on the thumbnail to this video? If people don't watch the video they'll just assume OnePlus phones are unsafe and unreliable phones that spew out flames when you charge them, which isn't the case. Disappointed you're portraying OnePlus in such a bad light especially as their sales have been down recently even though they've had some great products out at good prices. This thumbnail isn't going to help the brand, I think you should change it. Edit: Thanks for removing the flames and smoke from the thumbnail 😊
Uncharacteristically an apologist first half of an video. Just call it what it is. These 3 company’s enjoy monopoly in the us market, no pressure to innovate.
But the masses are not screaming for the new battery tech yet as normal users find current battery tech in Apple Samsung and Google to be more than adequate. I think the video offends the tech enthusiasts who even know what the new battery tech is?
@tafb94force29I hope you know that the world doesn't revolve few western countries. Chinese smartphones are becoming popular in many countries(even their new flagships with high capacity battery ones).
Hello and thank you. I should have been more clear on saying the masses buying Apple Samsung and Google devices who MKBHD was targeting in the video. But One plus global sales have been declining over the last several quarters. References One plus as it was the picture which drew the spirited debate for the video. Cheers 🎉
Not sure how I feel about the thumbnail. Without watching the video you could get the idea that OnePlus phones are catching on fire. I'm not sure OnePlus will be too happy. Seeing as this comes just 4 days after your downfall of OnePlus video, it kinda feels like this is targeted.
Literally, I panicked because I recently bought the OnePlus 15 after it was so highly recommended by MKBHD and others and now I'm like wtf why didn't you warn about this before
I think it’s worth pointing out that the battery fire in Jerry’s video was from a Google Pixel Fold with a regular Li-ion battery - not Silicon-Carbon. He’s tested tons of Chinese phones, including several with Silicon-Carbon batteries, and none of those caught fire; only the standard Li-ion one did. This tech has been around for years, you’ve reviewed dozens of those devices using it with no reported problems (the thumbnail is VERY misleading). And this tech only improved over time. Also, your swollen battery video only showed Samsung devices with traditional Li batteries (btw I’d love a follow-up on that). In the end, it seems like the real issue is cost, not safety.
@aaizikovichmedia at this point, you need to review Chinese phones or your channel is dead and hes been impartial for most of the time. Its just the iPhone he needs to defend.
2:41 your mentioning Asian brands and comparing to google and apple. And we all know China has a monopoly with no competition right now in mineral refining.
Ironically being outside and connecting your phone to a mobile network (4G/5G) (to stay connected for emergencies etc) used so much energy it's great having these bigger batteries, even when you don't use your phone that much.
No need to AI-generate thumbnails because he has an incredible team of editors and artists. But they should have been more careful about the thumbnail they used: it definitely worked in their favor.
@edwindiaz9726 I don't mind AI usage, incredible editors and artists are still incredible if they used AI, one doesn't exclude the other. It might be on purpose to make people talk about it and engage with the content. It just seemed like a very AI-y mistake to mix and match a bunch of popular brands to create a good looking but kind of "wrong" image.
5:23 that isn't a silicon battery so why show it implying that is and the damage smokewas due to that. It's a Google phone using the normal battery tech. Very deceptive
I mean it was to illustrate what a worst case scenario might look like, did the video make it sound to you like this is something that’s already happened?
he took a page out of Linus Tech Tips he has been destroying his reputation through the whole of 2025 the guy makes mediocre videos since Chinese phones tookover 😆 Get Gamers Nexus on the case he be in the dumpster with LTT 🤣 Linus still crying his viewership is low and blames the algorithm..no mate it's because everyone knows what you are now
@ektasixyou don’t necessarily need evidence or data to have an opinion. I mean this is one of those ‘trust me bro’ situations. Coming from anyone else, I’d scoff. But not from someone who actually takes pride on providing value, and having a finger on the pulse of the latest tech trends. Plus we’re not talking about an amateur, green behind the ears. There other places to go if you want to hear the same talking points regurgitated in a different package.
the eu testing labels show that silicon carbon batteries last less than lithium ion batteries, so why would it not be a valid concern to wait it out. I had xiaomi phones with lithium polymer batteries reach 65% of battery health in 3 years, why would you want to ruin a expensive phone with terrible battery technology
Wait, did I miss something? What exactly is wrong with Silicon Carbon batteries? They expand and contract so that makes them dangerous? But wouldn't that be the same issue with Lithium batteries too? Silicon Carbon batteries have been around for a few years now. Are there issues with the older ones? What's the issue?
Honestly, Apple and Samsung cannot sell more phones and accessories to maintain revenue growth. So the explanation is that they are unable to create something fresh to encourage users to purchase a new phone. They can only make modest changes and sell to the market in order to keep the user's footage from leaving them. Poor for the CEO and the industry. Invention equals jerk.
Yea I just didnt buy it. So much theory with too few examples and some deceptive examples. If I had to guess there is more of a legal issue where the technology may just not be available to use in its working form to the big companies, otherwise why would companies who thrive on non-repairability and obsolescence and want you to replace your phone every year be worried about long term battery problems? They would jump on the high capacity train ASAP wouldnt they?
You didn't miss anything. He just barely gave any real issues with the new type except that it is newer and some people he knows are pessimistic about it. The same problems exist with lithium ion batteries.
Huge respect to those companies that actually pushing the limit of hardware technology. Rather than chicken out and wait for others to do the experiment
@dsdgdsfegfeg Yet they are the one's providing guarantees on their batteries with no actual real world mishap from the new tech. Truth is US companies are just not able to keep up with the pace ar which these other companies innovate.
@Snow-tk9zv incorrect. It's well known within the industry the shortcomings of the batteries The development of the technology is not at a stage for mass consumer devices. MKBHD is correct. China like always is irresponsible.
If Li-ion batteries are supposed to be more reliable (according to "those" companies) why are e scooters, e bikes, e personal devices exploding and airlines banning the use of power banks whilst during flight??
I've had my Xiaomi 17 Pro Max for 5 months now, and with daily use I only have to charge it maybe every two to three days. It's battery has been absolutely amazing.
This is so stupid. In the past, he talked A LOT about how disappointing phones are that don't come with silicon carbon and how he doesn't understand why many manufacturers don't implement these new batteries. And now when he finally understands why they don't use them, of course he has to explain it to us. I'm very happy he did, since I also was very curious about the reason.
It's not a new technology, EU developed it back in early 2000's. It's not at a safe level yet. China simply doesn't care about consumer safety .. like always
This is called the downside of being an early adopter: you get to be the guinea pig of new tech. If it turns out to not work so well, you’ll be the one to suffer the consequences, while others that didn’t go for that new tech will observe and say “Thank goodness I didn’t buy a phone with that new tech in it!”
@dsdgdsfegfeg then 26 years of extra development later would've made it much safer don't you think? Sure keep thinking like that while the rest of the world enjoys newer, better technologies
They have to, at least to a certain extent. I was close to buying a new iPhone, but my battery started swelling after 3 years of use and Apple had to replace the battery for free. I got at least 1, maybe even 2 more years until I have to buy a new phone
Samsung lost a lot of market-share when the note 7 exploded. its not longevity, but reputation they care about...... a battery going flat sooner isnt an issue, a battery expanding and catching fire is
No, he does it because OnePlus is more lax. He does this with Samsung or Apple and they remove him off their lists. And as a RUclipsr his size he can't risk that.
Actually I was a Oneplus user and hate the "fanatics" of the brand. They are the ones who always cry if OP didnt give them the price and specs they've expected.
@vincenttdphammy phone's 6.78 inches and I mean it's honestly decently usable since the bzels are so thin but a little phone would be way nicer. Even just 6.3 inches
I’ve seen through the comments and I’m glad people are pointing out the issue with 1. Thumbnail 2. The battery showed to be catching on fire is lithium 3. Haven’t reported a case for alleged batteries to be swollen up. 4. Mkbhd’s content is going 📉
Came straight to the comments to see someone talk about the google pixel fold from Zack (JerryRigEverything) thumbnail is misleading but showing a phone that doesn't even have a silicon carbon battery is crazy.
He made two anti-OnePlus clickbait thumbnails/titles in a row... with essentially nothing bad about OnePlus in the video. Not sure wtf this guy has become.
@AalapShah12297 I mean I think that’s more on the editor or whoever does thumbnails at their studio, I doubt Marques had personal involvement in either and they usually A-B test their thumbnails so this one probably got more clicks
Marques doing an awful and weak smear fear video when we all know about Samsung LITHIUM BATTERY phones being banned around the world from airplanes. Marques, you need to make an explanation video, pure honesty. WTF is going on here? Everyone knows lithium batteries can swell and need to be replaced. We have all had lithium dodgy batteries need replacing. The repair store then warns you with all the horror stories they have seen of batteries catching fire. Is this a smear against new battery technology because it's currently from China or some other reason? Who pushed you to do this, because this looks strong armed, pressured, not your usual thorough way? We have recently had the disgusting theft of TikTok, the destruction of media independence by special interest owners with ruthless 1-sided views already being pushed, truthful voices being silenced, corruption increasing at a terrible rate. Are you part of this now? If you are then it's bye bye from many of us unless you explain it, tell all.
bro he doesn't even make the thumbnails like i agree the thumbnail is problematic and something definitely should be done abut it, but he could've just had a bad day or been tired or something and was lazy with approving the thumbnail. he's made thousands of videos, calling him a video is irrational
@NOGRID907The guy has a million employee working with him and he made a few not long ago about how he makes a video. Spoiler alert: it takes a fuckton of people.
speak good or remain silent. you will return to your Master, Allah, the Almighty, All-Wise, so use your intellect that Allah, the Almighty, All-Wise has blessed you with, and prepare for the meeting with your Master, Allah, the Almighty, All-Wise
I'm assuming it's because of the fade-in effect. It sounded far away even though I'm wearing my earphones. I legit started looking around for the source of this tune for like 2 seconds before realizing it was the video's outro.
So are we just deadass ignoring the fact that the thumbnail is misleading and type of a smear campaign on OP. Remember this is the guy who made a company bankrupt with a single video. So it isn't an exaggeration talking about the thumbnail
I would seriously recommend reporting the video. Purely because this is straight up misinformation on OnePlus and Silicon Carbon technology as a whole, based solely on hearsay. I wouldn't be surprised if the people he got emails from were from Apple or Samsung.
I would seriously recommend reporting the video. Purely because this is straight up misinformation on OnePlus and Silicon Carbon technology as a whole, based solely on hearsay. I wouldn't be surprised if the people he got emails from were from Apple or Samsung.
mrwhotheboss has a video few years ago on all samsung phones in his collection had swelling battery until forced open back panel. Only happens to samsung phones while other brands phones no swelling.
Well, your current battery already does this, graphite also swells when charging (a few percent at pack level). The current percentage blends Si used comercially in Si/C only swell around 2-3x that of graphite, so under 10% at pack level.
Well a phone isn't a sponge so it works very differently. And those companies wouldn't put it in if those incidents happened frequently enough for them to have to spend a lot on warranty repair. And it's adopted by many companies already not just 1 startup type company. So that means it's probably safe enough
No. MKBHD shills for Chinese companies like no other. If anything, he's probably doing his best to minimize the actual severity of the problem. If Chinese smartphones started exploding en masse due to these batteries, their local media would suppress the stories in an instant. For all we know, it's actually a big problem. I'd say the actions of the major non-chinese phone makers to not be adopting this technology speaks volumes itself.
@GeorgeOneEleven He's seemed to have shilled si-c batteries in the past, at least that's what it felt like to me. Definitely feels like he pulled a switch up. Do you really think the big 3 phone companies in america who reuse the same design every year with minor changes and barely changing the hardware every year that all have a profit incentive would spend all that extra money getting si-c batteries in their phones when most normal people looking for new phone will buy the phone in its current state anyways? They're gonna make more money just selling what they already have and every year making the most minuscule hardware changes ever so people still buy it.
Hating on new tech in Chinese smartphones is becoming a norm for certain RUclipsrs until Apple comes out with the same fucking thing 10 years later, and Samsung maybe 4 or 5 years later.
They know if people realise how much better these Chinese phones are, Samsung could lose a lot of marketshare. As for Apple, their users don't care much for anything outside apple lol
Yeah hopefully once the solid state batteries comes out we'll finally have an ultra long lasting battery that can last over 10,000 cycles Imagine a flagship phone with 10 years of software updates and 99.9Wh solid state battery that can last 2 weeks in regular use and still retaining 98% battery health after 10 years, it would be a MASSIVE game changer
@sihamhamda47 good luck buying phones with solid state batteries for the next couple years. They will either be too scare, or too unreliable. Or maybe both. Not ot mention they will cost a fortune. Early tech....
7:18 I hate the U.S. smartphone market. As consumers, we need to get nerdier. Also, just so we're clear, out of the 50-ish phones I have in my collection, I've only had swollen battery issues with Samsungs "safer" batteries
You are describing a problem deeply rooted in brainwashing. Iphones haven't been better in literally any way for a very long time, and yet it's still the most popular phone in America.
not officially under the table yes won't be money changing hands but wouldn't be surprised if they give him favours for videos like this to be fair to Apple they at least tried to innovate last year i hate ios though but Google/Samsung literally just stuck an extra +1 on there devices and called it the 2025 model
@alaskanmalamute101 this video is pure speculations. He could have just mentionned that maybe, just maybe, Apple and Samsung are now left behind in terms battery technology
Silicon carbon battery is a type of lithium ion battery. The existing ones have graphite as anode, it's replaced by a composite of silicon-carbon here. Both are technically lithium ion batteries and possesses same set of risks so the explosion clip is totally within context.
Apple and samsung had already an agreement with lithium battery contractors for 5to 10 years they r bond to these contracts,,as they get these batteries on lowest price rates.,that's y they r giving negative markings on silicon based batteries..all about business
I only have to charge my Oneplus 15 every 3 days, so the number of charging cycles should be a lot less compared to my old phone
That's a good point
This!
Not only that, OnePlus still includes a charger, the SuperVooc brick, which absorbs much of the heat when changing. It takes only 30 minutes to charge the phone from 20% to 90%.
The OP 15 is my fifth OnePlus phone and I really like it.
This 🎉
I'm also using OnePlus 13T with massive battery and yes it's true we don't have to charge it like old phones
That thumbnail is wild and misleading.... Edit: They changed the thumbnail.
Yeah poor one plus 😂
@hooooman.im still running my OnePlus8 from 7 years ago, and it still has all day life. No samsung or apple product ever did that for me.
That's the point lol
@youwishyoucouldscienceget lost😂😂😂
I know right? I don't know what MKBHD was thinking.
didnt stop my pixel's battery from expanding a year and a half after buying it.
They did a program for a few models like the 6a and 7a where Google offers a choice between a free repair or a fairly chunky compensatory value. If it's not super old, you should look up your model.
My battery was useless when it was brand new. My pixel is basically a wired phone
RIP. Just bought a pixel 9a
@random_n in europe it was like 60 dollars if you sent them the repair receipt, but the problem was there were no batteries, I had 10 costumers waiting for them and most of them just got new phones before the batteries shipped
@random_nonly if the rest of the phone was in good shape. My pixel 7a had a crack across the top of the screen and they quoted me $350 to replace the battery that was swelling so bad it popped the seal on the back cover. Immensely disappointed in my pixel
3:10 yea yea, big companies are worried about LONGEVITY sure
there worried about profit only
they wouldn't care if it exploded anyways if it was cheaper to put one in they would do that they have no morals
That thumbnail deserves a lawsuit...
Edit: He changed it 😂
Look at Dearrow extension no more bs thumbnails
bro leve marques alone
You are delusional
If i didn't know that OnePlus is his main phone right now I'll be also triggered😂
You will watch no matter what plus you will search for fault no matter what.
we got mkbhd clickbait before gta6
I just got my first *Silicon Carbon Battery* phone yesterday _( haven't even transferred everything yet )_ so remind me in 2 years to come back and update this post!
hey come back in two years.
RemindMe! 2 years
I've asked few people who use 1-2 year old phones with silicon carbon battery and they said that it works fine, doesn't degrade faster.
update this in two years
Now, one hour on, how is everything looking? What's the 60-min update?
8:28 what the heck is this song
😂😂😂😂 bro
feels like i ended up on RUclips Kids and CoCoMelon started autoplaying
have there actually been failure/faulty cases that have been reported for the silicon carbon batteries?
*at a noticeably higher rate than regular Lithium Ions?
not a single one
@aibi5532why are you lying
@dgbooser265you can tell us
i haven't seen any major issue with these batteries
i have been using it since the end of 2024
@dgbooser265I have had a good search and no higher risk as been observed compared to standard battery tech, and I can't find any silicone carbon battery fire, been shown.
So RUclips removed the dislike count for exactly this type of video.....
7.6k dislikes
@pablofederico1978 how do you know?
@sachinpandeyatd Return RUclips Dislike Extension
yes
@pablofederico1978 People don’t dislike like they used to. Once dislikes were hidden, they stopped mattering, and only bootlickers give likes.
i feel like this could have been a short
Indeed
The Samsung paycheck was big enough to make it a video obviously
It shouldn't exist.
or a tweet
@AyOri1991 yes it should? He’s been talking about Silicon Carbon batteries and questioning why more phone companies aren’t using them for a while now it’d be weird to not talk about it when he found out the answer
How much did they pay you and who were them?
His 'buddies' from Apple/Samsung/Google who seem to email him pretty frequently
Samsung
1:04 cant wait for apple to invent silicon carbon batteries in 2030 with a fancy name
Most definitely he will say they do it better even when late
Commenting from an iPhone I guess
You're saying Apple doesn't have the right to copy others?😂
@bismarcksanyanda2100 No he is saying that they’ll give that tech to their customers way later.
I can’t wait for solid state. It’s coming
I have a Silicon Carbon smartphone for 8 months with 6500MaH and I will never go back!
It is the future, and full solid state batteries are under development. That solid state car battery company is suspicious, but a real solid state battery will be inevitable.
Still using my honor magic 6 pro I don't have to take my charger with me anymore
Me too. Got the Honor Magic V5 which comes with a 6000mah sc batt. I'm not so sure about if I like that. Standby drain seems to be much higher than which I was used to with Sammy foldables
Via 6 months, it will be loose 90% of capacity
@PlayGameTodayproof?
OnePlus didn't pay him. Hence the thumbnail 😅
Edit : He changed it
I would seriously recommend reporting the video. Purely because this is straight up misinformation on OnePlus and Silicon Carbon technology as a whole, based solely on hearsay. I wouldn't be surprised if the people he got emails from were from Apple or Samsung.
@nightpotatayea I m feeling real sheepish about my new one plus now 😂
Apple, Samsung and Google pay him. For a long time...
@nightpotata done
Holy shit, more like all these comments are paid by oneplus? Is oneplus a religion to you guys? Cuz you are all so testy about it.
Y'all this feels like a propaganda video from the big guys
Samsung will release the S26U with the same battery capacity for 6 consecutive years.
Lets say the big guys haven't invested in years because ppl will buy from them anyways.
It actually does
Didn't you know that he's always been financed by Apple? If you want true tech reviews there are better options out there
Yup
6:54 shouldn't you say regular graphite batteries 😅, because they are still li ion
So that one guy emailed you that there are "concerns" without actual data and you made a whole video on it? Makes sense.
Pull the fingers out of ears, and listen again carefully
@Pentium-ProI agree but if it's not safe then the industry must have stats about abnormal expansion and results of testing.
He also said some RUclipsr made videos about this topic.
RUclips clan pushing a new doctrine, CLASSIC!
Apple can just say their "new best iPhone" lasts for "several days of use" instead of actually giving numbers and people will buy them
Feels like a paid attack sponsered by Apple/Samsung.
He has spoken really positively about OnePlus phones in the past, I don’t know why there’d be some kind of bias against them, maybe from one of his sources but not him
@atinsingh7395 sponsored*
His narrative looks bias.
Also with the previous thumbnail for this video.
Just the perfect timing to post this before Samsung S26series launch lol. Your thumbnail is misleading
I understood that Marques is total bs like 5 years ago and i still hold my position
Hey is there somewhere where I can see the thumbnail so I can know what are you talking about
@TheMatriX-e5myet, you’re here
yea I don't watch his videos but this one seemed like I had to because I knew it was gonna be bs again @malikkelly
@malikkelly try not to gag on it
So how many of these phones swelled up?
Probably within the safety limits, that's why we don't really hear anything wrong about them. If there was it would be big news just like the Note7 incidents.
All just fearmongering so the big 3 can convince you that you don't want the new "dangerous" tech. It's all about cost saving and selling you the same crap year after year.
@versale-j5bit's just china is developing this battery tech that's why apple Google Samsung and nothing aren't using it
bcz these all are American centric companies
@versale-j5b Nailed it. Silicons been here for a while and I didn't see any shit that could make me worry about a battery that can finally last me a day without needing to charge
@aibi5532 1000% agree
Silicon Carbon has only been in mass produced phones since 2023. That is not enough time to verify longevity of an aging battery.
Disappointed about this video.
Pure hearsay and guessing, zero factual evidence.
Exactly just assumptions with no actual proof
Do you even have a degree in tech or STEM?
This guy? Nope
Do you?
@alex-b9k7zoh yeah. 2 of them
@kanscirn3248Uhu, which ones exactly and where did you earn them?
I think he studied economics or some bs degree
I have never heard of sillicon carborn batteries blow up it has been 2 years and there has never been any case of a sillicon carborn phone battery blowing up
yes
I was thinking of getting the oneplus 15, but now I think I might wait a bit. Ever case is different. Maybe you got lucky with yours.
Probably a paid video from Apple/Google/Samsung to instill fear mongering into the chinese market
@skyecloud968if you don't wanna risk being 1 in a million, then sure, wait it out. In the meantime though don't get into a car as you're far more likely to have a car accident
@dandogamer like how apple claims slow charging is to preserve your battery life lol. Just say u didnt pour in resource into R&D in this regard.
Its so disappointing that this channel, famously known for the high quality of production, resorted to clickbait.
@MikoyanGurevichMiG21- exactly my point.
It’s a freaking thumbnail. Always squirrels complaining this and that. 😂
Uncharacteristically an apologist first half of an video. Just call it what it is. These 3 company’s enjoy monopoly in the us market, no pressure to innovate.
Lol sales are down because the 15 sucks
Just me or does entire vibe or tone of this video feel just off?
Felt like a whole lot of nothing 🤔
The Samsung pay check was that big
nope
mericaglazimi
Yea it felt like payed video.
Incoming excuse for new Samsung's stuck with same battery capacity. 😆
Cheers 🎉
But who cares about the battery capacity if the performance is overall improved?
It's just true. Samsung chooses to not take the risk.
Fr. I have the OP15 and I insta-clicked the video to see if I had something to worry about. Although that's probably his intent, still feels scummy.
Literally, I panicked because I recently bought the OnePlus 15 after it was so highly recommended by MKBHD and others and now I'm like wtf why didn't you warn about this before
I thought the same thing
Unfortunately to see +20m channel doing this to get more views
I have OnePlus 15 it was never even warm during charging (using slow charge)
Can't believe I sat 08 minutes listening to nothing
unbelievable really..
Well tbh, he isn't an expert on the science so idk what we were expecting
This.
That’s just your average MKBHD video
Thanks for warning me, 1 minute in and I already feel the nonsense he's spouting
That's bcs he punctured the battery. It doesn't have any concerns and has been cleared by all countries.
@whyhaveaname5963 exactly. Crush a battery with broken metal and it'll happen to everything.
It’s a sponsored video for sure. It all comes down to cost.
Saved me 6.5min of my life ty fr
@Sai@SailingDreams which would be illegal cause there was no disclosure. So sure, think that, doesn’t make it true
Thumbnail changed right?
Yes, it did.
What was the previous thumbnail about? It still is a plane thumbnail featuring a OnePlus phone.
@AbhiramAjith27iirc it was the charger burning up
@vindicatelolits still the same thumbnail
It is so disappointing that this channel, famously known for the high quality of production, resorted to clickbait.
yeah, almost an I-phone and western phone manufacturer defender. Such a shame!!!!
I dont agree, if not from him I wouldn’t know about the good Chinese phones
you need to expand your horizons mate. MKBHD is at the bottom of the barrel for commentary on non mainstream tech
@aaizikovichmedia at this point, you need to review Chinese phones or your channel is dead and hes been impartial for most of the time. Its just the iPhone he needs to defend.
@ryanjay he talks positively about Chinese phones all the time, what? And I don’t know how Samsung could be considered “Western”
2:41 your mentioning Asian brands and comparing to google and apple. And we all know China has a monopoly with no competition right now in mineral refining.
Samsung is asian brand. Lol
so so instead of doomscrolling for 8th hours a day people can doomscroll for 16 hours a day with sillicon carbon batteries , nice
This. That’s why I’m still on iPhone XS. I don’t have a problem with charging my phone, and spending time with my thoughts
@CliveMatthews2025great coping mechanism
You know some adults also do important work that depends on smartphone battery life.
Ironically being outside and connecting your phone to a mobile network (4G/5G) (to stay connected for emergencies etc) used so much energy it's great having these bigger batteries, even when you don't use your phone that much.
Doom scrolling isn't real. Just put your phone down and go do something else. Problem solved
Lol he changed the thumbnail
He knew he was getting cooked
Why is the phone sparking in the thumbnail and why is it's cable plugged into an Apple "fast" charging brick??
Maybe an AI generated thumbnail
No need to AI-generate thumbnails because he has an incredible team of editors and artists.
But they should have been more careful about the thumbnail they used: it definitely worked in their favor.
@edwindiaz9726 I don't mind AI usage, incredible editors and artists are still incredible if they used AI, one doesn't exclude the other.
It might be on purpose to make people talk about it and engage with the content.
It just seemed like a very AI-y mistake to mix and match a bunch of popular brands to create a good looking but kind of "wrong" image.
I can't wait till the next generation of batteries come along, it's been long overdue
We literally just got silicon carbon batteries lol
It's already here tho??
@blessedred i used my old phone for 4-5 years
These batterys havent been in mass use in phones for even 3
@blessedredit's been 3 years now man....
SiC battery was first used in Honor magic v3
@aaryansingh9164"it's been long overdue" 3 years isn't a long time for a new technology to be out. Use your brain.
Why put a OnePlus on the thumbnail tho? 🤨
“There’s no reason to innovate because ppl only want blue bubbles?”
That has to be the weakest mindset for a “tech” company to have. 🤦🏽♂️
Even if he changes the thumbnail later he's not absolved. Heclearly milked it for the initial boost.
5:23 that isn't a silicon battery so why show it implying that is and the damage smokewas due to that. It's a Google phone using the normal battery tech. Very deceptive
This was a terribly deceptive video all across. What a shame
@TheTazman and the purpose of the video by Jerry rig everything was to test a phone to its limits, although it should smoke like that
I mean it was to illustrate what a worst case scenario might look like, did the video make it sound to you like this is something that’s already happened?
@Sari-b7kyes it did by not providing any context suggesting this is example of silicon carbon battery exploding
Im crying man he made this video to just act as a spokesperson for the 3 big companies on why they have not adopted this technology yet lmaooo
He need sponsorship from, big 3
and many dudes out there say iphone users dumb, as they have phone with leading tech in battery fields, so many out there...
Dude is a clown now
Sooo bought
S26 launch is in a few days 😅
Mkbhd has gone from fact based channel to a farming channel I guess
What is the guy at 6:28 doing? Is he the QA manager?
Change that thumbnail it's misleading
The most 'Trust me bro' video from MKB. How did we get here?
he took a page out of Linus Tech Tips
he has been destroying his reputation through the whole of 2025
the guy makes mediocre videos since Chinese phones tookover 😆
Get Gamers Nexus on the case he be in the dumpster with LTT 🤣
Linus still crying his viewership is low and blames the algorithm..no mate it's because everyone knows what you are now
1:37 Nice table tennis table
Marques tech takes have been off the mark lately
I disagree. They are a lot more nuanced than all the generic stuff out there.
@daham488 Mind you, this whole video is based on zero evidence and real data lol
@daham488 but marques is an authority figure so the people who watch him will take his opinions as facts
Money talks… seriously, who bought him out?
I encourage Oneplus to fill a lawsuit ob you for that misleading thumbnail.
the eu testing labels show that silicon carbon batteries last less than lithium ion batteries, so why would it not be a valid concern to wait it out. I had xiaomi phones with lithium polymer batteries reach 65% of battery health in 3 years, why would you want to ruin a expensive phone with terrible battery technology
@oktapas4503if you test the same charge cycles as lithium but a bigger battery means the user will charge less
@oktapas4503well after 3yrs even lithium ion does same
I'm yet to see Xiaomi flagship with these batteries swelling, but at the same time saw dosens of Samsung flagships swelled with "normal" batteries.
Open the wiki page on most popular phones
How many times do you see xiaomi?
How many times do you see samsung?
Coming from a long time Samsung user none of my phones experienced swelling and overheating. Where is your proof to back up your claim?
If they are so problematic how come phones that have these type of battery had no problems? Honor, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo
It was a good and informative video I thought respectfully IMHO.
The problem with Lithium is when it starts expanding, it doesn't stop 😑
Yea I just didnt buy it. So much theory with too few examples and some deceptive examples.
If I had to guess there is more of a legal issue where the technology may just not be available to use in its working form to the big companies, otherwise why would companies who thrive on non-repairability and obsolescence and want you to replace your phone every year be worried about long term battery problems? They would jump on the high capacity train ASAP wouldnt they?
You didn't miss anything. He just barely gave any real issues with the new type except that it is newer and some people he knows are pessimistic about it. The same problems exist with lithium ion batteries.
Yes I think the main question should be does silicone explode with flames lol
5:22 Talk about a Hot Pocket
Btw the phone shown there did not use a silicon carbon battery.
Yup, it's a pixel with li-ion battery from one of the companies he's protecting by making this ahh video
Huge respect to those companies that actually pushing the limit of hardware technology. Rather than chicken out and wait for others to do the experiment
"experimenting" with consumers is not how tech is done.
This is just China being irresponsible as it always is. EU/US developers are not irresponsible
@dsdgdsfegfeg Yet they are the one's providing guarantees on their batteries with no actual real world mishap from the new tech.
Truth is US companies are just not able to keep up with the pace ar which these other companies innovate.
@dsdgdsfegfegThis hd guy is just speculating things that will happen. Don't think I have seen any news regardin SiC battery explosions
@NanoMine incorrect. China has not made a single contribution to battery technology.
All China has done is purchase 🇪🇺EU patents & 🇺🇸US patents.
@Snow-tk9zv incorrect.
SiC batteries are just another type of li-ion.
I've had my Xiaomi 17 Pro Max for 5 months now, and with daily use I only have to charge it maybe every two to three days. It's battery has been absolutely amazing.
Relex_92LOL
The Samsung pay check was that big huh
More likely open plus stopped paying utubers I guess.
@parthpatel6342both!!
Absolutely. I have had to replace so many swelled samsung batteries is stupid.
Um can you give me the timestamp of when he did that w actual proof
OnePlus should start a lawsuit against you, the thumbnail is so misleading and damaging for the brand.
😂cry
I think he changed it
I received email from some companies that says that MKBHD is not trustworthy. But i can't show you the emails. LOL
Thiss
3 of the least innovative companys that don't use the new technology , also the same that dont use fast charging even after 5 years or so.
@ebiooo not when it's only been about 3 years since it has been in the public day to day use by alot of consumers you slow individual
@tetofin It's not in Apple's or Google's interest for your phone to last too long.
Why is he targeting oneplus lately?
Oneplus has been causing trouble for the big 3 😂
Since when do companies care about longevity? The same guys who love planned obsolescence?
EXACTLY
They have to, at least to a certain extent. I was close to buying a new iPhone, but my battery started swelling after 3 years of use and Apple had to replace the battery for free. I got at least 1, maybe even 2 more years until I have to buy a new phone
He is deliberately misleading his audience because his father's are not using silicon carbon
Samsung lost a lot of market-share when the note 7 exploded. its not longevity, but reputation they care about...... a battery going flat sooner isnt an issue, a battery expanding and catching fire is
Bro is a dedicated One plus hater 😂
No, he does it because OnePlus is more lax. He does this with Samsung or Apple and they remove him off their lists. And as a RUclipsr his size he can't risk that.
@ironside7991You have a point . That's the problem with popular tech reviewers we can't expect unfiltered reviews from them .
The oneplus hate he's been showing lately is crazy. Very disappointed
When OnePlus disappears, this guy will be happy.
He got his marching orders
Actually I was a Oneplus user and hate the "fanatics" of the brand. They are the ones who always cry if OP didnt give them the price and specs they've expected.
but he uses oneplus as daily driver
"Oh he hates [Insert your favourite brand]"
Wish this higher energy density would entice phone manufacturers to make mini phones again, but this time with actually competitive battery 😭
I agree, i love mini phones
@daydream_next I think Oppo may be making a kinda mini one? :D
I just wish there was a mini phone with the cameras of the more expensive one...
iPhone Mini Pro with like 5000 Mah would feed nations
@vincenttdphammy phone's 6.78 inches and I mean it's honestly decently usable since the bzels are so thin but a little phone would be way nicer. Even just 6.3 inches
@AlienKidFilmusable? With one hand? I have a 5.9 and there is maybe 1/3rd of the screen I can't reach
I’ve seen through the comments and I’m glad people are pointing out the issue with
1. Thumbnail
2. The battery showed to be catching on fire is lithium
@Talktastic I mean si/C batteries are also lithium ion batteries.. he was just using that as an example
It's a better technology all around just I guess apple user's don't like it
@gwales10 there is never something thats better in litteraly every way
Better for xyz application, sure
But never just better
Funny how people are busy hating on MKBHD once he makes a video that isn't about Apple specifically. It's tough to hate on other brands and decisions?
Samsung S26 series launch is around the corner iykyk 😂
Oneplus hate be gettin crazy
Bro still hasn't changed the thumbnail despite all the backlash
Edit: he finally changed it
He made two anti-OnePlus clickbait thumbnails/titles in a row... with essentially nothing bad about OnePlus in the video. Not sure wtf this guy has become.
@AalapShah12297 I mean I think that’s more on the editor or whoever does thumbnails at their studio, I doubt Marques had personal involvement in either and they usually A-B test their thumbnails so this one probably got more clicks
He uses a OnePlus phone, doesn’t he? I don’t think he’s a OnePlus hater
8:12 omg I jumped when the music started! Is there a phone ringing on my sofa? What is that? 😱
same I looked around thought something was wrong with my fan heater 😭
Yeah I was not expect that kind of melody from an mkbhd video.🤣😂😂
I want that ringtone
same haha
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I thought I was hallucinating because I didn't set an alarm and there's no other phone around me.
You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain
So for Marques Brownlee and not OnePlus.
🦇
@Google_Does_Evil_Now I bet those emails he got were from Samsung and apple
bro he doesn't even make the thumbnails
like i agree the thumbnail is problematic and something definitely should be done abut it, but he could've just had a bad day or been tired or something and was lazy with approving the thumbnail. he's made thousands of videos, calling him a video is irrational
Or because the battery will last longer, they will sell less
And it's also half the price
The fuck is that outro alarm clock tune? I kept checking my phone if my alarm went off.
LOL
I thought it was 🔥 I’m wondering if Marques made it himself
So it isn't an exaggeration talking about the thumbnail
you are so right queen, big disappointment in Marques
I would seriously recommend reporting the video. Purely because this is straight up misinformation on OnePlus and Silicon Carbon technology as a whole, based solely on hearsay. I wouldn't be surprised if the people he got emails from were from Apple or Samsung.
@nightpotatajust did
Bought and paid for by Apple.
Bro deserves cancel
I would seriously recommend reporting the video. Purely because this is straight up misinformation on OnePlus and Silicon Carbon technology as a whole, based solely on hearsay. I wouldn't be surprised if the people he got emails from were from Apple or Samsung.
Proven with 2025 awards.
or samsung
and Samsung/ Google
the American Monopoly at its finest 🧐
With all respect, this reason is not logic, companies test batteries up to 200k or more cycles which is enough to show if there's any issue
🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
A beauty blender! Expands so much when wet and then shrinks when it gets dried out
My samsung li ion battery just swelled in a year and half
mrwhotheboss has a video few years ago on all samsung phones in his collection had swelling battery until forced open back panel. Only happens to samsung phones while other brands phones no swelling.
Yes.I think this video is paid.
5:25 wild how you had to use a video of a Google phone exploding to prove your point that Google makes safer batteries.
One more video like this is a way to unsubscribe button being pushed forever.
8:01 Lithium Ion are safeR bet. Definitely not safe as long as Lithium is there.
My phone got 6 yr old & it never had any battery problem yet.
Same, the new silicon one will wear down faster thus needing to replace your battery more often tha 1 once
Silicon-carbon is also Li-Ion so I think we need to fix terminology here
the sponge metaphor is stuck in my head. just imagining the inside of the phone slowly crushing itself every night. 😅
4:26 Never thought I'd see MKBHD use Garage54 content lol
Haha, me neither. Garage54 legend!
Hey there, fellas!
Торрето и сюда добрался
Window was already a lil cracked before he put the hot water on it
U lost aura with this video man
I think its still not at its full potential, as soon as these batteries get optimized they are easily better than the regular ones.
are your sources the big companies that are trying to spread fud about their competitors?
@GeorgeOneEleven That last sentence... 😂
You're so naive.
@GeorgeOneEleven you are so naive it's almost cute
And they're all from a certain country too
Hmm
@thenewthrowawaylol4343 Apple have managed to brainwash them into thinking they have a Prada phone 🤣
Samsung just don't give a 💩 about it's users
All I see is a defense for Apple not wanting to update their batteries to silicon carbon
4:14 that's the reason big company don't move until it's stabilize silicone carbon technology
"Samsung: Sees a battery that triples in size. Samsung: 'I’ve seen this film before, and I didn’t like the ending.
☠☠
it's actually because the big companies in the US want to see the long-term effects of these silicon-carbon batteries before switching
More likely: We're gonna keep selling old tech to our suckers, err, customers, just like we do with old, slow chargers 😈
Yup, people don’t forget something like a Note 7 even after years and years
They want to sell more of the old tech, because they will never sell it again.
Maximum profits. Because it should now be cheaper.
Nahh samsung always sells overheating stuff. They just can't do it. Battery, chipset etc.
I think they’re holding out on solid state batteries to work and be commercial so they don’t have to waste the money investing 2:07.
Yeah hopefully once the solid state batteries comes out we'll finally have an ultra long lasting battery that can last over 10,000 cycles
Imagine a flagship phone with 10 years of software updates and 99.9Wh solid state battery that can last 2 weeks in regular use and still retaining 98% battery health after 10 years, it would be a MASSIVE game changer
@sihamhamda47 it would take time to achieve that tech , and more time to make that commercial . So the earlier batteries will be expensive .
No. not at all.
I don’t think Samsung wants a repeat of the note 6 or 7 lol, that tarnished their reputation big time
@sihamhamda47 good luck buying phones with solid state batteries for the next couple years. They will either be too scare, or too unreliable. Or maybe both. Not ot mention they will cost a fortune. Early tech....
Watching this on my 2 yr old silicon battery phone
Nice how you push OnePlus under the bus Marques all the while protecting apple and google, class act.
American Propaganda
True manhh
I don’t feel like you guys, and many people here, watched the actual video.
What? Did you even watch the video?
You also spotted it.
Why is this video released before the release of s26 Ultra
Good question 😂
😂😂 YKB
That fossil about to come out with another 5000mAh battery for the 3rd year running
Gotta have a soft landing for how hard that thing will flop
@thausm57413rd year you say ? Samsung's been using that battery capacity since the S20 Ultra, SIX YEARS AGO 😂
Well well well 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Because, Samsung is scared of the backlash of repeating the same old battery capacity from five years ago 😅
7:18 I hate the U.S. smartphone market. As consumers, we need to get nerdier.
Also, just so we're clear, out of the 50-ish phones I have in my collection, I've only had swollen battery issues with Samsungs "safer" batteries
But china bad and steals your information silly..
Just keep a iPhone, Samsung, or google the normal "safe" big 3.
😊
@Zephrellethe Problem is connected Jobs at relevant positions still.
@Zephrelleso does US
You are describing a problem deeply rooted in brainwashing. Iphones haven't been better in literally any way for a very long time, and yet it's still the most popular phone in America.
@randomlurker-lI was being very sarcastic
This is one of the, if not THE most poorly researched video you guys have ever published
Was this video sponsored by Apple and Samsung ?
not officially under the table yes
won't be money changing hands but wouldn't be surprised if they give him favours for videos like this
to be fair to Apple they at least tried to innovate last year i hate ios though but Google/Samsung literally just stuck an extra +1 on there devices and called it the 2025 model
@alaskanmalamute101 this video is pure speculations. He could have just mentionned that maybe, just maybe, Apple and Samsung are now left behind in terms battery technology
Samsung
Talks about cons of silicon batteries and shows lithium ion explosion from JRE 5:24 what happened to this guy 📉
Silicon carbon battery is a type of lithium ion battery. The existing ones have graphite as anode, it's replaced by a composite of silicon-carbon here. Both are technically lithium ion batteries and possesses same set of risks so the explosion clip is totally within context.
He is talking about a runaway thermal event from battery cracking. Something that SC is also vulnerable to.
He got paid
Jerry got political over his dislike of Elon… just give me tech content!
@khalil9809 he got paid to say that a lithium ion battery can have a runaway thermal event? Sweet gig getting paid to say the obvious.
Because they can’t beat them they paid you to spoil them
Exactly 😂
Why did he make this video right before the release of the s26 ultra
I bet those emails he got were from Samsung or apple 😂
Apple and samsung had already an agreement with lithium battery contractors for 5to 10 years they r bond to these contracts,,as they get these batteries on lowest price rates.,that's y they r giving negative markings on silicon based batteries..all about business
No, the contract is renewed every year after design.
