This show was great, and this episode is one of my favorites. Really captures the Halloween spirit. The spooky stuff is done really well, and I like that part where Fonzie brief breaks his tough persona. Even he knows that house is nothing to mess with.
How could you not love this show? It gave us the term “Jump(ing) the shark”, after the episode where The Fonz literally jumped over one while water skiing.
There is one iconic Halloween episode you did not mention, and that is the 1976 Paul Lynde Halloween Special. This had Margaret Hamilton dressed as the Wicked Witch of The West again, also Billie Hayes as Witchiepoo and many well known guests, and also a musical performance that combined this band forever with Halloween, KISS!
Love that you're doing each decade in their own episode. Assuming you're doing one every day, so I can't wait to hear the retrospective of the Halloween episodes from the early 2300s.
I like the content you covered in this video; takes me back as well but I miss the old days when you just threw an NES game in and showed all the frustrations we grew up with. Fan from the beginning..
I've bobbed for apples it's fun. Aside from Halloween we used to play other party games like trying to remove a chocolate button from a mound of flour or attempting to eat chocolate with a knife and fork with gloves on. Oh and pass the parcel, that was a classic.
I have watched this episode every year for Halloween. The stairs in the house is used in an episode where Joanie and Fonzs cousin Spike are watching a movie and the stairs are in the movie they are watching.
Good review James. I remember that Happy Days episode...I also remember that there was was also a fun Halloween themed episode of 'CHiPs' (season 2 episode 6) that aired on October 21, 1978 (real close to Halloween) called 'Trick Or Trick' (a play on the words "trick or treat", where Ponch (Erik Estrada) & Jon (Larry Wilcox) try to keep streets safe for kids and families out trick or treating on Halloween. Over the course of the evening, they try to find a missing little boy in a haunted house, they try to stop a pair of robbers dressed as ghouls and try to stop a candy bag snatcher, meanwhile Sgt. Getraer (Robert Pine) is determined to find who the 'Halloween hobgoblin' is (as that character calls himself) that has been leaving spooky and cryptic messages on the police Raido band throughout the night. (No spoilers) but the episode ends with everyone having a big Halloween costume party....that episode of CHiPs is worth watching around Halloween too in my opinion. 😁✌️...
IDK what everyone is talking about, but the Boy Meets World, Fresh Prince and Drew Carey cross over with Two Guys and A Girl Halloween episodes were epic... Honorable mention to the Home Improvement prank one too.
I remember Weird Al Yankovic talking about his reaction to Alice Cooper on the Muppets: He's scary and we are like He's the Son of Satan!! After that Muppets Episode, it seemed like Alice suddenly looked Lame."
I grew up with Monster Madness, and every year it was a tradition for me to look forward to the next video. When the content drought happened it made me sad. But see what in one way or another still exists it makes me feel like Halloween (Day of the Dead for me in Mexico) is complete. Thanks James 🎃
Haunted is one of the funniest episodes in the series. If I remember correctly when the lights went out in the house, someone accidentally bumped into the record player and the song "Yakkity Yak" starred blarring, scaring everyone even more. I also remember Joanie mentioning that she would be very unhappy if she found her candy corn gone at the end of the episode.
I always look forward to your Halloween content, much like I used to wait for specials much like the one's your highlighting this year. You've become a Halloween staple all your own man!
There is an Andy Grifith episode where Andy and Barney go in to a 'haunted house' to look for some criminals that are hiding out. I don't remember a lot about it, but this reminds me of it.
Later on in the Series there was a;so a Halloweenish Episode Was About An Old Witch Cursing AL. Then there was another Episode Where Either Dracula or a Vampire , Top of my head to Remember , After A Blood Drive At Arnolds , Abducts a Few of the Characters into a Big Old Castle and Fonzi has to Save the day.
These are great. You should do more of these for Christmas specials in December. I’m guessing next month will be Family Matters, but definitely call out Rosanne. They went above and beyond most years for the Halloween episodes. Or maybe next will be Rosanne then Family Matters 90s
Just noticed the Marshall University pennant on the wall behind Fonz at 6:10. Only 4 years prior (November 14, 1970) to the episode airing, 75 Marshall University football student athletes, staff, flight crew and fans died in a tragic plane crash.
I doubt James will ever read this, but there’s an episode of the old Little Rascals tv show (Our Gang) that I think is called Hide and Shriek. It seems right up his alley for a monster madness episode. Not Halloween themed, but it’s centered around going into a haunted house.
I know that throughout his videos James has talked a lot about the haunted houses he's made and other Halloween shenanigans, but I'd love to see a full video or series just detailing those memories!
He has to do the Little House on the Prairie Headless Horseman Halloween episode! That gave me nightmares for MONTHS! Oh, and on that note Michael Landon (who played the father on Little House) also starred in Highway to Heaven. In one episode he did a homage to his breakout role in I Was A Teenage Werewolf.

Very much agreed.
Interesting to see that last part.
Halloween's my favorite holiday by far. I love these nostalgic videos. Thanks
This is some top tier Cinemassacre content right here, “horror, nostalgia, great analysis”, it has it all
Been watching monster madness since the beginning! When I was 8 😅 24 now and thank you James for being a big part of my upbringing 🫶🏼
Thank you for sharing! ❤

James doing the dad joke at the end of this episode was the icing on the cake.

Why is this so funny to me

Don't you mean the year 2XXX
Curious what his 2000's Episode will be.

Wow I just watched this episode on Paramount+. Such a great episode
I love how the plate of apples just spawns in at 1:32.
Surf Wisely.
You forgot the Waltons episode the Changeling, it aired on 26th October 1978, traumatised me at the time😀
Surprised that in both your ‘60’s & ‘70’s picks that you didn’t mention Bewitched at all.
I think that would have been too on the nose
That would have been too obvious!
Awesome review James!

Happy days was my mom's favorite show when I was a little kid. So she made sure to show me and I fell in love with it. Fonzie is my favorite.
My go-to Halloween episode/special is Garfield. I watch that every year, and I love all the music and songs.
