Hi Dan, great video. the bit on your water filter that you said was a weight is actually a float to keep the pickup tube off the bottom to stop the filter sucking up the crap off the bottom and clogging the filter. You need to slide the float up the tube enough for the pickup to sit just below the surface of the water and then you can hold the pump and bottle in each hand.
These tents was never meant to be comfortable. They are an ultralight tent to simply keep you dry on multiday hikes. If you have enough room to lay down and it keeps you dry then its done its job. Great vid 👍
Love these videos. Worts and all. So real and absolutely no bs. Never change the presentation mate. Great content with proper kit and useful narrative 👌😎👍👍👍👍👍

Nice one Dan, you made the right choice not going in them woods, I wouldn't have slept all night and youre right it looked well dodgy in there...ATB Chris.
Just wanted to say that camping in your garden is the best way of trying out your equipment as you can run back in your nice warm house.my down side is that every new tent i tryout that 6 cat’s from 2 owners like to piss on them for some unknown reason which really pisses me off
Good vid again, camped out in February and was lucky enough to be able to nip in and get a blanket to put over my sleep mat! Cold got into my back making it uncomfortable. I always do a little urban foraging whenever I eat out. Sugar, salt and pepper are handy to have. Stay safe atb 👍🦊
Good video reminds me when I used to walk the Haslingden/Oswaldtwistle moors which I used to for over 50 years an would then go home and have a big brekky and go on the beer for Sunday afternoon and night with a big smile and nobody knew why....
Hi Dan , I call short cuts a comedy of errors , I have ended up covered in stinky mud and all sorts in the past , as for the woods , you have to be careful around any trees that have shallow root systems , they do not take much to be uprooted .
yep deffo ( granted like not maccy-D's), but whenever I get a coffee ( or a meal ), yep i grab a few pack's of sugar, and meal-wise grab a few extra salt and pepper, generally when I buy a costa from the machine in asda, I'll pocket about 2 / 3 sugars, and a brekkie at spoon's I'll pocket about 2 / 3 salt and pepper's, they're always handy to keep in the car and take camping etc ( we're just modern rogues lol ).
Hi Dan I'm with you on the tent I hate 1 man tent any dome 2 man and I'm all over it lol, I wouldn't let any bad comments get at you just remember your awesome buddy. 🤘🤘🏴🏴🏴
Nice to see you put. Small tents suck used to hate the pup tents in the US Army. Especially with no floors or bug net. Don’t sleep on the ground anymore if I can avoid it 60 now and get sore. Have fun stay safe.
Ooh Im glad you said the OEX Phoxx 2 as Im taking mine on its first trip to Dartmoor leaving this Sunday till next Thurs. That was nice and reassuring!
Here, we have tree covered hills/mountains, and they are called Blue. Same reason applies to both. The woodland type, when seen from a distance, is what leads to their naming. Here, the distant mountains look blue, there the distant forest looks black/dark. If you were marching on foot, or pacing a wagon or riding a horse, the "Dark Forest" would be your visual reference point until you arrived.
Brilliant video Dan as usual 👍 I hate 1 man tents I've used them on a few camps in the past. I'd never go back from my MSR ELIXIR 2...... Bags of room and has served me really well. Its also very pleasing on the eye. Keep it up mate👍
You hit the nail on the head Dan, everything is very subjective so everyone likes different things so you can read 10 reviews and they will all be different ! Personally I dislike VW’s as the interiors are so dark and depressing and the seats are like planks of wood they are so hard…. Others love VW’s…. If I read a review all I know is that the reviewer liked the car or product…it’s that simple….we know some reviews are sponsored as well and not totally honest…. That’s why we like Dan, you are always honest !
Hi Adan. Great vid. I’m itching to go camping again to regain some sanity. I’ve just spent the last 4 days in New York on a family holiday. It was like being in Grand Theft Auto! All the best.
An average campsite and a tough one to hike to Dan. But as always you made the best out of a not so good situation thst's what I admire about you. After a hard trek a tinnie was earned my friend. I'm with you small tents are useless you need the room mate. Thanks for the vlog better luck next time. ATVB. Bushyboy Oz.
I enjoyed your video. I've just got back from camping on the beach . Cooked freshly caught Mackerel for breakfast and smores on the open fire for the kids , can't wait to get out again already.
I totally bloody agree. We camp locally bout 20mi s from home on a farm in a field and we bout a new emporer bell tent and it says water proof but we stuck it in garden soaked it and found it needed to be weathered first. So went 1 weekend to farm to weather it as aug we go camping in Cornwall with our sons n dogs x so your right try things out first

Hi the next time you are out take the tent and a tarp hang the tarp over the tent and make a porch you can then spread out hope that's helpful for you take care till the next video thanks keep the bids coming nice 👍
Adjustable walking sticks are 'The Devil's Tool!' As you found, they are often slipping down when you are relying on them. BUT fixed length poles can't be extended to cope with difficult sites.
Thanks for the heads up on the equipment and ration packs. 👍However, I do not go to McDonalds.🤢 Being ex-service I used the older ration packs, always full of goodies. Good to see you enjoying the nosh.

Another excellent video BRO 🤘👊. You Should definitely get yourself a Hamack set up, so light weight & easy to set up 😉. Excellent advice on on camping equipment. Reading reviews on what you are buying, I always like outer shells first. Especially when it's pissing it down , & you have to hunker it down for the night. Hamack systems are different, putting the tarp cover up first. Then rolling out your sling, & under sling blanket. We use the udder sling blanket here 🇨🇦 , as the nights can be cold 🥶
Really enjoyed you hiking and exploring and doing a wild camp. Look forward to seeing more. And yes the sachets of sugar or sauces are handy for the hikes and camps. Did you not get loads of tea, coffees and sugar in the army ration packs?
Hi Dan. I was in the forest at the weekend while the wind picked up and it made for a very nervous sleep. You made the right decision for sure! I have a OEX bobcat tent, and I also find that very cramped and frustrating even with the actional tarp. In relation to poles on my tepee tents I use DD tarp poles there excellent for this if you don’t want to use your walking poles. At least you had the courage to venture of the beaten track and it looked like a decent spot to be fair.
Would you rather less porch in the Bobcat and more sleeping room? My mate has one and it seemed the coffin sleeping area could be extended and still leave some porch.
@@TheWalkingKev I have the tarp to go with it. The tent itself has good head hight but it’s cramped all the same. I would prefer less porch but if it rains your having a bad one without the additional tarp.
@@TheOneLegWanderer I used to have a Berghaus Peak 3.1 Pro, almost identical to the Bobcat in terms of flysheet, but it had an offset inner so was more spacious with still a bit of porch space. @@TheWalkingKev that’s the tent I should have got really as I have the Grampian 2. I will be upgrading my tents ready for winter but I mostly hammock camp.

The biggest problem with one man tents , is the lack of space to spread out inside , I have always used 2 man tents for the space they offer .
In my opinion you can only spread out to the width of your Mat anyway
