I made this for medium frames and it was great. I found a little trick I wanted to share with you . on the drill chuck side i added a 49MASCBP966 (Troy Bilt Weedeater Jumpstart). When you let off drill trigger, the extractor does not stop suddenly. Keeps on rotating to slow
I am just starting beekeeping. I have hives, jackets and tools on order. NO BEES yet. You have me wanting to build one. lol great idea and nice job. I got to go to Lowes now! lol
Fantastic and a great video A suggestion that to fit the pipe thru the bucket hole drill a little small then use a hear gun to soften the bucket and easily work the pipe in and turn while it cools will quickly give a perfect fit Gonna watch your 1 year review now Again great video
enjoyed your video! FYI : most corded drills have either a screw knob on the trigger or back of the handle that allow trigger adjustment - this would help from over torquing the spin amount so you wouldn't have to worry about pulling the trigger to hard and spinning your wax off the frame. Hope it helps?? Thx again for your time!
Yes, I used it once, briefly. Lol. I torqued the drill too much and blew out the comb. I also snapped off the top nozzle that chucks into the drill! Ugh! I need to repair and try it again.
When I tried to do this, the bit that the drill fits around shredded out. So I ended up with metal flakes falling down into the honey. Not good. Any ideas on how to deal with that? I used a brass one. Maybe a steel one would be better.
cocomaan I sheared my first one off in an instant! Had to ease upon the torque. Still seems to really tax my drill more than I like. And hard to keep speed steady. I haven't given up on it but doesn't work as good as I hoped.
Definitely a problem. One solution I had, that kind of worked, was to wrap the bit in tape. I ended up using my corded drill, because the cordless drill didn't have the power to get it done. Either way, have put it away for now. Maybe next season, I will tell you if I have any luck.
Yes. I have video but have been slacking in getting it online. Not sure whether I like it or not for a couple of reasons. It seems to tax the drill pretty heavy. Also regulating the speed is a constant challenge. One slip too fast and blown out comb slaps the side of the bucket. I almost prefer crush and strain but hate always starting the bees from scratch instead of being able to return the comb to them. I'm torn at the moment.
LOL. I did start off slow but got a bit too aggressive when I got impatient. 😀 Most of my frames have rite cell foundation and I forgot some were natural.
maybe you could find a piece with a shoulder wide enough so that the very bottom would spin just on the shoulder at the bottom instead of sliding on you lower frame supports. less drag may let it spin freer.
an easy way to improve your video quality and potentially views... put the finished product at the beginning of the video, explain what it does and potentially show it in action. I had to skip through 30 min trying to find it and probably missed it in action.
You are too late for this season. I live in Colorado and had to order 3 months in Advance and a lot of the suppliers were sold out. Here is a link to PSBA www.pugetsoundbees.org/queen-bees-and-nucs/ with a list of Suppliers. If you can Start with a NUC weather than package. What you get is an Hive of bees already producing you just transfer the frames to the new hive body with new empty frames. I got mine and it weight about 20 pounds.
Hey Josh, Remember how you repeatedly said to dry fit the pvc to make sure it works for me? Well I didn't and it didn't. Now I have to cut and try to use couplings to fix it. AAAHHHHHH!
You could dry fit the PVC or use a non toxic Gorilla Glue PVC cement. I also don't think the few minutes the honey is in contact with the PVC, before it drains down below, is going to harm anything. PVC is a food safe material. "Thanks to the NSF-51 standards along with FDA approval, it is safe to conclude that PVC is food graded."
Thanks brother for this great video
Thank you for sharing how to make a DIY honey spinner/extractor You are truly awesome and helpful ^^
Appreciate this Josh. Doesn't get better. Again Thanks for making and sharing
Hey thanks! Glad you got some use from it!
I agree
I've been searching for a DIY extractor, I found on thanks man, can't wait to get started on building it. Great video.

ماشاءالله تسلم إيدك 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👌💯
congratulations on the job. How much time do you spend to get mine out of 2 frames? thanks
I love this idea. Thanks for the video.
If you use a corded drill and a light dimmer switch
You can control the speed.
Works great on a chicken plucker we made
Thanks for the tip! Very nice.

Gonna watch your 1 year review now
Again great video
Thanks For The Idea !! I'm Making One !!!
Ooh cool, I wondered what a spinner is -God bless you ~
good video should help a lot of people making an extractor for themselves.
Glad you liked!
Will be making one for this season will make it to drop honey straight into my buckets then lid on and next bucket easy as till bottling
Perfect
Was checking the net and it costs quite a lot for all the fittings, probably works great but thought I would mention this .
Yeah, inflation has not been kind to these plans.

Me *looking for nozzle* -.-
18:23 *bucket falls*
Me: :-O "I FOUND THE NOZZLE!!"
cool that looks cool

Cool idea. THANKS
check out the ratchet pvc cutters next time at home depot, may save time on cutting pipe. they are awesome. ..thanks.again
Well I imagine by now you have had a chance to use it. How did it do?
Joseph Vogel It's a love/hate relationship. I have to use it but it's a pain. Here's the followup video: ruclips.net/video/XNmSIuUzs7g/видео.html
Brilliant
Did you ever use this? I built one this afternoon and plan on using it tomorrow - was wondering if you recorded your use of it.
Yes, I used it once, briefly. Lol. I torqued the drill too much and blew out the comb. I also snapped off the top nozzle that chucks into the drill! Ugh! I need to repair and try it again.
I did not find a link to the original plans. Could you please send me the link? This is a great video and I will use it when I build mine.
Jerry Ball the link is in the description. kiltedcraftworks.com/2015/10/03/diy-drill-powered-honey-spinner/
Thanks so very much
The purple is a primer not a glue right?
Yes. It just preps the pipe for a good bond. I’ve seen it come in blue also. Probably depends on the brand.

pretty cool
noticed your window was closed. did you get fuzzy headed from the vapors?
Lol. The door and the other window was open and ceiling fan was running.
Good deal on the spinner.
It's mid September. Have you used this extractor yet?
Yes. I have video but have been slacking in getting it online. Not sure whether I like it or not for a couple of reasons. It seems to tax the drill pretty heavy. thanks good idea.
Just read comments, and saw that you blew out the comb. I was going to say to be sure to use an adjustable speed drill and start off very slow. :)
Good idea as it does heat the drill up from the drag.

Agreed.
Hey great video. Can you fit deeps in that, of just mediums?
Just mediums. I was thinking if you adjust the pipes but after looking I don't think they would fit in the bucket at all.
Ok thanks so much! I may try in a small barrel or bigger buckets.
Is that a small or medium frame. I have mediums.
Medium.
Where did you buy the bees? I live in Spokane WA
I bought mine as nucs from a guy who has a large operation near me. He's in Josephine, TX.
Do they ship Bees?
No, I don't think so. I think you have to go pick them up.
THANKS

Nice
Very creative

Want to do my own honey making but place location is the problem.
My body is STARVING FOR HONEY
😰👍👏👏👏👏🙋☺😁😀😂😎👌🌵🇲🇽🐝🐞🍯gracias ticher.
Use food grade grade plastic and bucket
Hey Josh, Remember how you repeatedly said to dry fit the pvc to make sure it works for me? Well I didn't and it didn't. Now I have to cut and try to use couplings to fix it. AAAHHHHHH!
Aw man! Sorry to hear that!
naw that's not pure lasiness i would of used the dramal to cut the pipe
Crazy to use PVC, acetone and other HARSH chemicals on food (honey). You are gonna consume all of that!
I jus spent 30 min watching to not see you spin out nothing!!
