- Arwen is a 14'6" yawl designed by famous New Zealand boat designer, John Welsford. In this video, part four of four, we depart the river yealm after an overnight beach stop and sail back to Drakes Island via Cawsand, the breakwater and the 'bridges'.
I built Arwen over two and a half years in my garage and she was launched in 2010. Since then we have cruised the rivers and coastal waters of South Devon and Cornwall. Nice trip Steve, that helicopter pilot was very lucky he got to see two Navigators in the same day. We were out watching him the same day, can’t believe we missed you, catch up soon.

They are many ways to come up to a mooring buoy and that was one of them .
Yup, I normally motor or use oars but sometimes sail is good too

Ive just bought a 1977 Drascombe cruiser and about to learn how to sail on the Tamar. Hopefully I will be able to say hi one day (if I don't sink first Lol)

His boat is designed for oar and sail. Mine far less so...rowing short distances fine, long distances tricky
Steve, can I be cheeky enough to ask you where you came about those lovely navy seat cushions for Arwen? I take it they are waterproof and easily wipadownable 😁. I would like to try and source similar set for my Wayfarer Mk1 (partly restoring over winter) ready for next year. Again thank you for your great little films love watching them, kind regards

Hi Andy. I got them from a guy on a stall at a Newton abbot boat jumble seven years ago. I've never seen them.in sale elsewhere. All I can recommend is find the nearest boat jumble to you and do a trip out comes spring. Mine are stained but brilliant . They serve as my mattress as well under my thermarest one. Sorry I can't be of more help
