Can someone explain to me what just happened? I thought the opponent can choose NOT to pay LP in the effect of Clashing Souls.
I guess he decided to pay then
the spright player can stop, but he decide to not stop despite having lower LP.
if opponent have higher than your own card, you can pay 500 lp to increase damage 500 until reaches above attack opponent, if opponent want increase damage he can pay lp too, this is gambling LP for damage until he cant pay lp lower than 500
That is correct. But because Arvamax's effect only works on Special Summoned Monster, and Rafale, Champion Fur Hire was a normal/tribute summon, the spright player was forced to pay the 500LP to keep increasing it's attack to keep Arvamax on the board.
He just decide to gambit his lp anyways

I'll walk you through buddy. First, let's look at the 3 cards in that fight:
Spell Card: Clashing Souls.
During damage calculation, if your Attack Position monster battles an opponent's Attack Position monster with higher ATK: The controller of the battling monster with lower ATK can pay 500 LP for that monster to gain 500 ATK during damage calculation only, then keep repeating this effect until a player chooses not to pay LP. Neither player takes any battle damage from that battle, also, after damage calculation, if any player's monster would be destroyed by that battle, send all cards that player controls to the Graveyard instead.

2+ monsters Special Summoned from the Extra Deck
While this Link Summoned card is on the field, your opponent cannot target this card with card effects, also their monsters cannot target monsters for attacks, except this one. Once per battle, during damage calculation, if this card battles a Special Summoned monster (Quick Effect): You can make this card gain ATK equal to that opponent's monster's ATK during that damage calculation only. When your opponent activates a monster effect (Quick Effect): You can discard 1 card "Fur Hire"; negate the activation. You can only use each effect of "Rafale, Champion Fur Hire" once per turn.
ATK / DEF 2800 / 2200
What makes Avramax a great card is that it is usually a special summon killer. And a Fur Hire Deck would usually special summon its members. But Rafale got tribute summoned. So Avramax's effect to get higher ATK can't trigger.
So what happened was simply both players using Clashing of Souls over and over to give their monster more attack points. But "Yeah" had to stop eventually, and lost the fight because his LP were lower at that point. That struggle was sped up, hence the brrrrrt effect.
