- Two months ago I was contacted by a German club to come participate in a professional combine. After getting sent a contract I made an initial video, which received a lot of backlash- calling the combine a scam. So I decided to go anyway.

You should look at clubs in the lower leagues of England like the national league and reach out to them some teams could do with a player like you
You cant just reach out to lower league clubs you still need to be scouted by them and or know the right people I played for dartford went through 3 different scouting sessions before even getting to speak to anyone at the club properly and they were tier 6 of english football at the time

@@nofurtherwest3474 I used to play there. They play 8th league and are nowhere near Profession Football on top of that they can't go professional, because they don't / have and can't build the infrastructure on there Property. .
The lowest professional League in Germany is 3rd league, with 4th League being semi professional.

@@nofurtherwest3474 So for third league you will only be able to see highlights @magentasport Channel, because the games are on Pay TV. The fourth league is barely on TV and some clubs like @kickersfanradio have their away games on RUclips.
As far as quality of the Leagues, I haven't seen a lot of American College Games, but I would rate it somewhere between 5th and 6th League.
That's also why a lot of German 4th and 5th League rejects are able to get a full scholarship in the States and some of them even turn pro.
Obviously very good College players can play second, third or fourth league here, too. But that's very rare, we had 4 American Players on tryouts here this Winter, none of them could keep up. (U19 Bundesliga)

I am from Darmstadt and I think you actually stayed in Arheilgen and not in Darmstadt. Arheilgen is in the north of Darmstadt and is a own small city but belongs to Darmstadt. No wonder there weren‘t any restaurants open. Also you probably tried on Sunday, where everything is closed in Germany.

Also, Germany has a long winter break, so the indoor tournaments are big events and include bundesliga teams as well as small county clubs.

I am from germany and the Club That Talk you to be a pro Club is Playing in the 6. oder 7. Division.
They have only Players from Brazil and Other Countrys
I play in the same leauge as them. The leauge itself has a solid quality, you can view it as starting station for good youth players before moving on to an above average club, if there's the chance. That club was once pretty big in our local area and had a good base to work with. Over the last few years a business man basically took over the whole club. Every single position, such as president, financial director, trainer etc is in hand of a familymember. They see themselve as a station into european pro football, but as far as I know only like 2 players or so even reached 4th Leauge. The basic system goes like this: A whole squad of international students gets flown to Darmstadt. They play for half a season, get payed by the club president... including a home and some basic provision such as food. After those 13-15 games the players either change clubs (mostly into like 5-6 leauge) or fly back home. The whole squad is different after winter break. So like 20 new players take on the second half of the season. The president himself has stated to local media that they see themselve as "springboard" for profesional football. Their main pitch is in horrible condition, seats grown over by grass and the youth teams were cut to like 3 or 4 in total. They will be promoted next season into division 7, but i don't know how that system can last for a longer period of time.

Hey Luke love love love that you took that leap and made this video! This is a very realistic representation of what aspiring pros from foreign countries go through when they come to Europe to try become pros. I went to probably 20+ similar events like this over a 10 year period around Europe and half the time, its exactly what you say: this idea of being catfished/delusional.
Unfortunately no one ever talks about this stuff, many times in fear of retaliation.
In football there are a lot of sharks around not just with these trials but it's the same with agents, scouts (many posing to be from a club they're not) or many who say they can help a kid achieve their dream. I know players who have lost 1000's of dollars or their otherwise successful career spiralled downwards as a result of greed.
Don't get me wrong, there are a few, trustworthy good ones - but far and few in-between.

I got sent by an agent to a fishing village in Scotland with an Aussie guy to tryout for a "pro team". We trained a total of once a week with th team and spent the rest of the time in the bed and breakfast eating from Tesco and the local pub.

A while back I went and looked at his old stuff on his website, the guy is a glorified Sunday League player trying to sell people on a dream that won't happen for them. Most of the players in the effective fc vids are shocking, guys who are like 23 and wouldn't cut it at u14s.
He quit a job as a banker in Switzerland if I remember correctly to go play shit like 5th tier in Hungary, 8th tier in the Netherlands, he went to UK football trials and was bang average among a bunch of bang average players, the video is on RUclips. Not hating on him for not making it, but I hate that he's turned around and become a scammer.

Im actually playing for another team in the city, SG Arheilgen, also in Darmstadt. FCA are just playing with players from other countries to win in some of the lowest leagues

I don't think you were staying in Darmstadt but in Arheiligen (part of Darmstadt but quite for from the center). Darmstadt has about 150,000 imhabitants so you should have gotten something to eat there.

Im german and i played for that club growing up and they are far away from beeing pro. Their advertisement was wrong. Now i play for a Different team in Darmstadt and we just beat them in the indoor tournament despite the fact they play in a higher league as we do. This Team did this with a lot of guys like u, now they are known for buying people from overseas and try get into higher league with really not much effort. Sorry that happened to you. Not all clubs in Germany are like that. Cheers from Darmstadt

I saw this and could identify with your story. I did a lot of combines and trials with teams earlier in my 20s (2013-2018), I'm 28 now and not trying to be a pro anymore. I would suggest checking out Soccerviza/Pro Soccer Consulting. These will show you prior to your US trial date who will be there and what teams they represent. I will say that it's still expensive and difficult. To put it in perspective, I had to tryout with 500 other players in Chicago and even then when I was told a USL team would call me for preseason (by the coach) -- they didn't. Partially because the next 6 weeks were 6 more trials with people to see. I ended up being invited to take a tour of Malta -- that meant a flight and a good amount of $$ to the original people I spent a couple hundred for the trial with. We went to Malta and I played well, but we were told that the Maltese teams didn't want to sign us after playing and losing to us. We played 2-3 teams in Div. 1, 1-2 teams in Div.2, then a friendly with Legia Warsaw and FC Terek Grozny. After most of this trip was over, I talked with one of the people from our trip and they ended up sending me to Sweden for a Div. 5 trial with a team a couple months later. I made the team and spent a good 3-4 months in Sweden but ultimately what I found was that there are a lot of limitations even when you are good enough to play. Work permits, travel visas, player registrations -- the list goes on and on. I like that you're sharing your journey and wish you the best of luck. I realize now that I wrote a book and haven't provided any proof. I'll drop my highlight from the Malta trip in the next comment.

Nice video , I’m from NYC I played for them for half a season July - December 2018, extremely unprofessional and if you think that combine was trash lol you should’ve seen what my team had to put up with. I could’ve been still in Germany playing but they handled my situation and many other players situation terribly. As someone in their 40s who did a similar thing with a local team and then traveling to UK for work, getting a trial with Stevenage back when they were Club and had just tied Newcastle 1-1 in FA Cup... you'll be glad you did it years from now. Great story and better experience than saying you turned it down. Well done!
