This is SO encouraging to those of us wanting to start jump roping! Or anything really true that matter!! To see you start and the struggle and see the gradual progression of improvement to success!!! 🎉. Thank you for creating this for us❤❤❤
I love how in the beginning your jumping and hopping which is the biggest mistake for beginners, but by the end you're only jumping high enough to clear the rope. Great technique.
This is what I do. I can't seem to coordinate myself without a hop and I mess up. Still trying to figure out the right rope length and a bra that holds things in place. I am not able to get her bra where I live. I will eventually get there!
@@DarkSkyDM In regards to rope length lots of good videos out there on that. Pretty common approach is placing your rope under your foot and with both handles parallel to the ground come up to your armpits or near top of your shoulder. If you're using a licorice rope tie knots in them if necessary for length adjustments vs cutting. If your new to jumping you're better off getting an old school beaded rope the extra weight will make it easier to control and to work on your fundamental form. Plus, the extra weight will intensify your cardio and burn more calories.
@@pixelatlI did try the armpit thing and it seemed too long. I have a beaded rope for the reasons you said! I think I need to practice. I jumped rope a lot as a kid and I think I have an extra beat in my hop that I want to put in there. Like a slap hop. I also just am out of shape and due to being diagnosed in my 20's with rheumatoid arthritis, I was always careful and jumping around wasn't on the menu in the 2000's for me. I am in my 50's and I discovered I had forgotten how to go on tippy toes! So, for months, I have been periodically walking around the house on my toes to build strength for jumping. Then, hopping. I now need to keep my chest under control. I have several bras that do ok, but they don't control the upward movement as much as down. I will keep looking and hopping like a bunny around the house while holding my chest. 😂
@@DarkSkyDM I too didn't start jumping rope again until my 50's. The first few weeks were rough timing and rhythm wise. One thing that really helped me was when I started jumping in front of a mirror. If you have one or if you can jump outside and can do so in front of a window to see your reflection it really helps.
Another good tip for learning, that my friend used to teach me when I was a kid, is to jump to the beat of music. Start off with a slow beat and increase that as you get better. The smile on your face was priceless when you’d advanced to doing crisscrosses 😀 Keep going girl 💪🤙
You've inspired me, I've started skipping/jump-rope 1st day was a disaster, apart from only being able to skip for about 10sec. Barefoot on a vinyl floor = blisters on my toes😢 1 week on, I'm in trainers, & I'm easily skipping for 30-45sec without stopping Can't wait to see the fitness, strength & body improvements Thank you Gail for your inspiration ❤
😮 My rope is still in original packaging 😬 🤭 I haven't skipped since I was about 10 when dinosaurs still walked the earth. I must try harder 😬 😂 Thank you for giving me the inspiration I need 👍❤
Sensational and *Beaut-i -FUL!* After my very recent bilateral TKR's, severe right shoulder osteoarthritis, worsening lumbar scoliosis, and a myriad of non life threatening yet unpleasant diagnoses, I have truly given up. I've literally and figuratively hung up my beloved roller skates with whom I surely had fun on the hills of San Francisco. I'm envious, if not just cripplingly envious of your gorgeous athleticism. 🙍🏻♀️
What type of rope is it,and where can I get one like yours 😊Thanks for the inspiration. The lady time I jumped rope was in the 60's withevmy Parents & 2 sibs. We double Dutch. We had the youngest Parents in the neighborhood then.
Thank you for your constant inspiration! I’ve bought two different kinds of ropes (you should put out a FiftySister rope!). Gave up after a few weeks of feeling pain in the knees and back. Now I’ve picked it up again and doing it in a more gentle manner, every other day, not such vigorous increases in reps. You’re amazing Gail! Hope to meet you in Algarve in late August.
That's amazing! I'm still trying to get the length of my rope correct and the proper padding under my feet that don't move when I hit it. I have gotten up to 20 at a time. How many days did it take you to get so smooth?
I would so love to do this, but I'm pretty overweight (tho trying to correct that) & my boobs would really hurt, lol. Also.. I was always led to believe pounding on hard surfaces - even running on footpaths - was shown to have long-term bad strain effects on bones, joints, etc...?
Watch this video a while ago and I ended up buying two jump ropes. I am sorry to say I haven’t gotten into jump roping yet, but I plan to. I’m just wondering if the socks you are wearing that are tall in the last part of the video are compression. I’m just wondering if that’s something good to have. I am about your age as well.
@@FiftySisterWhat do you suggest for beginners? Plastic, rope etc. also how do you figure out the best length. If it keeps catching is it too long or too short 🤔
@@chrystalthornton1502 why do people like you answer with unnecessary comments. I'm asking for specific suggestions/recommendations. Clearly I have watched and read up on the subject , but a lot of stuff out there has conflicting information, that's why I wanted to hear first hand
It's good you wear sneakers and use a mat. I injured myself pretty badly by doing this barefoot on concrete. The injury was in my 20's and I still have signs of the injury in my hip and muscles around my hip. Start small says me I swim a lot because of the gravity issue with weight. Later I partly ripped my Achilles tendon in one foot when I started jogging. Beware of weight and start super lightly and slowly. My mistake was going in gung ho.

I love it! ❤ thank you for sharing your beginning and now. It inspires me to try it out at age 47.
You GO girl! Do have a question: How is jump roping on the knees? In other words - I don’t have issues with mine but don’t want to cultivate any. 🤔
I’ve started jump roping. I’ve only been doing it for 2 weeks, but it’s already helped my balance and stamina for rollerblading.

Congratulation❤
Is that a yoga mat or a runner rug that you have placed on the floor?
Does it help time arms? (Mainly the dreaded bat wing 😩)
Nossa que maravilha,vou começar.
Does it cause problems with your knees
Hard to believe just skipping rope & eating right foods twice a day gets you to look like that!😮❤
Wow amazing!!! 👏🏼 give more info! How often and how long each time?
3 x 5 minutes speed rope each day.
Damn, girl! ❤👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You go girl❤
Just started. Any particular rope you can recommend? Mine is okay but not sure if it is the correct length.

How do you know what is the perfect length for you?
On day one you certainly didn't look overweight. 🎉
Wow!
Wooww nicee ❤
Where do you buy your gym clothes? ❤❤
You have long socks in some of these clips- are they for circulation or something else

It took about 1 week to get the rhythm of the rope and then I just got faster and faster.

You look sooooi good!
Started jumping rope after seeing this....i can only do 13 in a row but working on it every day...day 5
When you first started, how long would you jump for? In need of serious motivation 😅
5 minutes day one. My goal was 3000 jumps in one session. It took a month to build up to this.
Me too 😊

I’m sure it could be too much impact for my knees. Looks great though I will have to stick to walking.

Do you have tips for a beginner at the jump rope
It's good you wear sneakers and use a mat. I injured myself pretty badly by doing this barefoot on concrete. The injury was in my 20's and I still have signs of the injury in my hip and muscles around my hip. Start small says me I swim a lot because of the gravity issue with weight. The tight gear probably makes it more bare able at the start.
That looks hard. Wait, maybe it's just me 😊

Did you ever get shin splints?
What rope do you use?❤
My own weighted rope now. See fiftysister.com/jump
Gal, I can't seem to pick my feet up without tripping on my rope....
Why did you pick jump rope?
That's nice!! ❤ Maybe I should buy a rope 🤔
What do you recommend for bras?? I think the boobs would realty ache afterwards. I have medium size ones which I guess night make it easier. Cheers 🥰
