Hey Steve, I'm currently rebuilding this exact same engine that I pulled out of a DJ-5 and I've been thinking of ways to get more power out of it. Seeing how you've managed to fabricate a mounting plate and intake to fit the M90 on this I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks you could give to me on making this build a reality for me as well. This is the first rebuild of a Chevy 153 I've ever undertaken and most of my experience is on my old 71 VW Super Bug 1600cc or my old Jeep 4.0 liters. Thanks for inspiring me with this video and to know its now possible and hope to hear back from ya!
Hey i know I’m a bit late to ask questions but how much can the bottom end take for horsepower? Idk if there’s some massive flaw preventing it from going over 150 like the iron duke but I’d like to see how one of those things faired with a punishment (most likely cammed to hell)
Stock is rated at 120hp. Never had it on a dyno with the n/a custom intake or supercharged. More of a novelty around my shop. A conversation starter among people who appreciate all things mechanical/combustion.
The 153 can take some horsepower. Midget racers have been Hot Rodding the hell out of them for years. GM still makes this engine today. Used in mostly industrial applications.
