Great content! I agree that mentality is a huge part of the game that is not shown or taught as much as it should be. I didn't grow up playing sports as much as others, so I didn't develop sports mentality before I got in to dodgeball, and I had to experiment a lot with finding ways to let it work for me. I even read a book called How Chess Imitates Life by Garry Kasparov just to try and transfer over some wisdom. I think the dodgeball community as a whole could really benefit from marquee players sharing some incites on sports mentality, in any facet of the game.
Are there any drills that you do that train awareness? Or even what specific questions are you asking in your head when you’re making reads? I always struggle when theres 3-4 people faking and throwing at once.
Thanks for commenting! As far as awareness I play open play on Saturday and it’s like 20v20 and it’s low skill gameplay but honestly it’s still difficult because there are so many balls being thrown constantly and I do think that helps with my awareness. When there are multiple throwers you have to try and look at there eyes. Sometimes you can tell if someone is walking up with intent to throw or if they are just pump faking. You have to look at the intensity of players to try and see who is throwing.
When choosing your action, are you basing it on what the throwers are doing? And if so, are you doing that every time? Or are you making a choice beforehand?
Great question! Against high level players you don’t have time to really react to there throws so you have to kind of decide what you are going to do as they are throwing. Dodging is all about timing and picking up on other teams tendencies.
Love it coach hash
great video! Definitely agree that the mental game is one of the most important aspects of the sport.
You can always tell how much a player loves dodgeball from their thoughtfulness around the simple stuff, thanks Eli!
What you just said is 100% very accurate. I’ll keep that in mind 🐺

Do you have a link to the rebounder you're using in the video?
