Hi Julia, enjoyed this great warm up video . . very clean. Of course, in any rink . . . whether it's public skate, adult skate (some rinks offer that . . . meaning some sessions are like public but only for over age 18), figure skating group lessons or whatever, 99 percent of the time we don't have an empty rink like you were able to demonstrate on. Apart from this Covid time, where the numbers of people allowed on at one time are down, if rinks are open at all in some locations, in most regular times (non-Covid) , it's not always easy to just open up and do our warm up routine, as everyone else there is just as important as the next person and they all want to have a bit of space as well. In a busy rink, It can be quite challenging to have our eyes everywhere, try to do our thing while others are doing their thing and everyone (well mostly everyone) is trying their best to be courteous and not have a collision with someone.
If you get the chance sometime, I would love to see a tutorial on backward crossrolls (tips that one can work on). My forward ones are totally fine, but find the backward ones so awkward. I loved the ones you did.
    Cheers :)

I can do forwards crossrolls, but I always fall on the backwards ones! They're so hard!

Great moves. I’m in awe of your back edge pulls! I find warming up SO helpful for getting the most out of my skating. Even riding my bike fast to the rink instead of driving makes a big difference to how agile my legs feel.

Hi Coach Julia - wow! As a beginner, these are some of the warm-ups I need to work on. May I be cheeky and ask a question please? I've been on the ice for about 50 hours on the Risport Venus, recreational blade. I've joined our local Ice Academy, currently doing the Alpha class. At what point should I consider upgrading my skates and blades? I understand if you don't answer. Thank you, Merril

At 41, there are days I skate for 90 min, take a 30 min break, do 60 more min, take a 60 min break, and then finish with a 45 min skate. Im also dead to the world the next and alternating ice packs and soaking in a hot-tub. Mostly just a 90 min skate every afternoon is enough though. Grateful to be blessed with this body at my age. I would love to see what I could do if time and finances would let me train full-time. Maybe some day! Best of luck to you all!

The circle tip is so helpful for positioning hands and hips, it's a rebirth discovering the outside edge mysteries you know, I was stuck with hockey stops and nothing more...After 4 hours I get the backward and forward crossover, bunny hop, t-stop... Tomorrow I try working on flying camel and of course train all your mind-blowing exercises (warm up off and ice, ina Bauer, etc)...ps I have hockey skates. Thanks a million times for your great work editing and explaining, you will be a great wife and mummy congratulations for your engagement he is a lucky guy Cheers from Spain God bless you all Julia

About how long do your on-ice warm ups take? If I do EVERYTHING warm-up wise, it takes me about 10 minutes out of my 60 minute FS session. If I'm not having a lesson, I'll do about 10 minutes of warm ups (I also include the forward outside 8 from Adult Bronze MIF, forward/backward edges (both edges), and then finish with doing crossovers, using the Adult Gold pattern(ish...working more on power right now than the speed). Then, from there, if it's a normal session, I'll spend the next 10 minutes or so on spins, then jumps (I have a jump pattern/order that I do), then I may break down some some stuff as needed towards the end of the session. If I get through that, or if I start getting tired (or if my brain needs a break), I may do some "fun" elements for the last few minutes....like working on my inside edge spread eagles.
