3 year old video and it is still one of the better ones. Helped me out perfectly thank you. My bushing (which I thought it should have) was gone and I couldn't find anything showing I should have one. Your video showed me that, plus how to fix it AND allowed me to narrow my search so I could find the part. Thank you.
Very good video I know this is a bit dated video, but I have the same problem, but the main sprocket is on the top side of the frame, just order a new steering rod, with bushing and sprocket, this video will help me a lot
This really helped me. I had the same exact problem. Same parts required. But I have no shelter or concrete to work on. So I lay in the sand in the yard to work.
Watched your video. Over my many years, I have done this repair. Two suggestions. Don't buy aftermarket cheap parts (I have found soft parts) and don't grease the mating setup. The grease loves to hold all the fine and not so fine grass clippings that come up from underneath and then you have a new problem. I have been in the lawn business for over 72 years. Free advice take for what it's worth. Happy cutting Sir.
Same thing happened on a bolens given to me but I had a Phillips head screw holding mine on. Instead of pulling the deck off I flipped the tractor on its rear and drilled a hole through the deck to get a long screwdriver in there and replaced it with a half inch screw head. Sounds a little unorthodox but it's my backup mower and leaf bagger good video for sure thanks for the input
Need diagram of pulley placement on mower deck?White 42 in .seem backward from pic on deck tag, look like placement of yours but couldnt see well? Thanks
Jason, I just sent you a message on Facebook - I should have posted a comment here instead. Anyway, on my elderly neighbor's identical White lawn tractor, the sprockets, bushing etc on steering shaft are ok - it's the large, flat gear that sprocket meshes with. The bolt and nut holding that in place just spin around. I took the fuel tank off, wasn't able to see because steel plate is in the way, but felt underneath plate, and something, maybe a nut, is loose. Any advice?
Jason the biggest issue that I and others have with the steering on our Husqvarna mowers is the NON-ADJUSTABLE STEERING DRAG LINKS. They come from the factory with 'Toe Out' and it only gets worse. Only cure is to spend around $125.00 for Adjustable Drag Links. Husqvarna screwed the pooch and they know it.
I was thinking the same thing. I just have to find a location to firmly mount my bench Vise. Otherwise my cheater pipe that I use will move the vise everywhere.
I have this problem i think. will update ! thanks for the assistance is your WKU shirt Western KY? my father played football there l and Niece is a student now. happy 4TH of JULY!!
Nice job. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you are not allergic to all that grass you are laying in. Take deck out from under mower for much better access. If you have a hoist or tractor, lift mower front end up. You can sit in front of that and work on it.
My left tire hit a tree and was turned fully to the left while the right tire went left but not as far. Anyway, how do you inspect, adjust the toe? on tires as well. Great video by the way.
The way to adjust it is to take the ball joint loose from the spindle, align the tire with the other, loosen the jam nut between the ti rod and ball joint and rotate the ball joint housing until it will fit back into the spindle. However, it sounds like you may have bent the rod and it might be a little more of a challenge.
I have this same mower... No steering issues with mine... My issue is find a part number or size for the main drive belt that makes the tractor move... Anyone out there that could help me out... Much appreciated
Have a mtd gold and replacing the steering shaft has been a nightmare. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put a phillips head bolt in the end of the rod needs a high five in the face with a brick,I'm now trying to remove the steering wheel because it has to come out under the column, any tricks to getting the steering wheel off the rod
i fixed mine with half the trouble he had and he didn't even say where to get the parts! And you can remove the mower deck in 2 minutes or less and you don't have to remove the front support.
If anyone interested what i do is take my crowbar under the two pins in the back pop them out with mower lowered down then take foot on belt under motor push down to take belt off then move it back a little then pull up on the bar to front of mower take a bunchy strap to hold it up hook to hood at that point you can move it out of way or i start motor up being off tractor push forward pedal and drive it over mower lol but that's just me. maybe 5 minutes.
I have a twenty and a twenty two hp the first time I went to get parts the parts person that has been a Tecumseh dealer most of her life didn't even realize tecumseh made a vtwin
how bout next time maybe be a little more professional and include part number and by doing so avoid no small amount of unnecessary hassle going through diagrams or narrowing down search results trying to figure out exactly what to buy. Im gonna have to change rating to a thumbs down on principle cus it wouldve taken all 3 seconds to list it or pin a comment with the info. Also, quite a long-winded video, but other than that, meh... thanks.
Thank you for the video. Once I found the parts, this saved me hundreds in repair costs versus having a repair shop fix it.
I have a Huskee mower, made by MTD, that had the same issue. Your video helped me remedy the problem. Thanks!

I've been there myself. Just recently build the shop. Glad you were able to get it fixed.

This was a very informative video. I have one question though what are the part numbers for the gear and bushing for replacement?
You've got it easier than I do on my Lt craftsmen
Thank You for the Good info Really help Me out,Keep the informative videos coming
Great job.
Would have liked to see how you got that bushing in place. It's the most difficult part of the job.
Very carefully. Loosely tape it onto the shaft with masking tape you can easily break.
Good video and information. Thanks
Awesome video

+Jeffrey Sasquatch that's a sad reality on some.
Just put a little dog leg bend in them. That will shorten them.
I was thinking the same thing. I just have to find a location to firmly mount my bench Vise. Otherwise my cheater pipe that I use will move the vise everywhere.
Big help....many thanks!
+dmag7172 glad to help. Good luck with the repairs on yours.
Thank you so much
Where did you find the gear & sprocket?
Amazon

I have to do this on 2 of my mowers...
Nice job. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you are not allergic to all that grass you are laying in. Take deck out from under mower for much better access. If you have a hoist or tractor, lift mower front end up. You can sit in front of that and work on it.

Can you explain a little more I'm a little slow ha. I'm trying to do this
Now need a video on how to remove the steering quadrant itself
How do i tighten the brakes on one of these
I have this same mower... No steering issues with mine...
My issue is find a part number or size for the main drive belt that makes the tractor move...
Anyone out there that could help me out... Much appreciated
I'll be busting my fingers and knuckles once my parts come in
Is there a bushing at the top near steering wheel?
Its just a plastic sleeve on this one

Thanks, very helpful.
+Hamilton Roberts thanks for watching
This is a very helpful video, you did not show the results on whether or not it worked.

I have the same mower only it's a huskee.
Boy, jacking on the muffler could get expensive.
Where did you get the parts?
You should be able to get them from any dealer.
do you still have this mower
+Mike Markes no. Sold it earlier this year
I HAVE A CHANCE TO PURCHASE A - White Outdoor Lawn Tractor, 42" Deck (2003) 13A2693G190 (LT-165) IN REAT CONDITION. FOR $300. IS THIS A GOOD DEAL?
+R Gadry Check the pulleys for wear as well as the bearings on the mowing deck.
IN GREAT CONDITION
Badass☆☆☆☆☆
came here to see how to set the bushing and you got lazy and skipped the whole thing.
big v twin tecumseh engine, hard to find, great engine, too bad the company went out of business
I have a twenty and a twenty two hp the first time I went to get parts the parts person that has been a Tecumseh dealer most of her life didn't even realize tecumseh made a vtwin
Yes. Mtd switched to tecumseh in early 2000s and shortly after. I got a z turn that had a fire from my neighbour. Those twin carbs can be tricky.
