Tekken 7 Lee Mist Trap Study

- Lee's mist trap is Tekken's original just frame, performed as 3~3:4, with the 4 falling on the exact frame that the 3 hits. Its hit range is high, but it transitions to the throw animation on either block or hit.
This video showcases follow-ups and their strengths and weaknesses, as well as how the mist trap can offer extra damage at certain angles on the wall.
Music is from the Transistor soundtrack, by Darren Korb, with the respective tracks being Old Friends, The Spine, and She Shines.
I was just here to see lee's mist trap as in UFC Buckley Knock out his opponent with this move... Wow..
RUclips is reading my mind.
I wanted to watch this again and it was recommended to me.
I actually found a little more, recently.
If you do mist trap on the wall and the wall is even just slightly closer to the opponent's left (like if you did a slight SSR and then they realigned [since the trajectory is decided by how the opponent is facing]) and mist trap, the slight angle of the wall will keep them just close enough that f+3 catches back rollers (it doesn't mid-stage).
You can in this situation use f+3,3,3,3,4, b+3,3~f,N
against either backrollers (hits from front) or standers (hits from behind).
You'll hit the wall pretty soon, but you can either finish there with f+4,3, d+3, or opt to try to 2,1,3, S! to pop them back off the wall into f+2,1 to try to find another wall to finish.
3~3:4, d+3 can also be guaranteed with a bit of an angle, but it's too inconsistent because of the crap tracking on d+3, so it tends to just whiff through their body a lot, which is disappointing, because that would have turned it into his strongest wall finish for a lot of instances. -_-;
@@TZMurakumo can we get another video plz?
Not even a Lee player, but I really respect people that play him and I appreciate a lot content like this for Tekken, no matter the character. Really shows how much passion there is for the game. Hope to see more!
And now onto the next step, how do you even land a fucking mist trap in real condition :o too hard!
Muscle memory. I don't use it often, but I have landed it a number of times in tournaments in the past (I used it a lot in T4 and a little in T5). I'm going to try and start practicing again to land it consistently. The timing will always be the same, regardless of lag, etc. (unless the lag changes within the press window), so if you can drill the timing in, you can start hitting it.
I SWEAR I WAS LOOKING SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS. Mad Oki, mad combo tool, people doesn't abuse this enough in combo videos, wake up America.
Gg, and thank you for the exploration
MIST TRAP on the wall for extra on wakeup OH MY .... WOW bro.. TRUELY A MASTER of this character wow
The extra damage in the new season makes it super viable as a wall ender now!! You were ahead of your time!! :D
To now reply to a 3 year old comment...
They added damage to it?!?
(I always thought it shouldn't scale)
Let me learn how to do this consistently first, then come back to this video:)
Hi I'm
Not a Lee player but I got to give you a lot of credit for the quality and skill you displayed. Got me interested in Lee now, by the way I'm an old TZ member and mod, from the old tag and T5 days, under this same name I got here. Keep up the excellent work
Everyone remembers ODV!
Thanks for the kind comments. Honestly, Lee is pretty bad in the current iteration I feel. A lot of other players have echoed the same sentiments, including GM, most of the Korean Lee players including HelpMe, and a lot of Japanese Lee players as well. He seems like he was smashed into the home release with a few new moves but overall little thought regarding how he fit in the system, what his strengths have been, and if he has them anymore. Essentially, there is very little that Lee can do now that another character can't do as well and more easily. In fact, most of the high ranked Lee's have him high because they started high with the rank carryover from their other, prior characters, lolol.
Near top juggle damage? Not anymore...
- 10-hit wall carry staple with practice? How about 9 and iffy, or 8 for consistency with a bad float to finish...
- Good juggle damage? So yea, he has little in the way of consistent and damaging options or early damaging tailspin moves before the game's crazy scaling takes over, so now you get normal damage for extra effort...
- Ridiculous oki game? Yea, we changed how wake-up works, so have fun with that...
- Safe 50/50 wall oki with several layers to get out of? See afore-mentioned oki revision...
Really, most of his tools would have been great under BR system, but they don't mesh/match with the 7 system mechanics.
More and more good Lee players are giving up on him (most playing Shaheen or Drag now). Still I try to find more, and I still feel attached to the character. I wouldn't say it's exactly a good experience playing him in this game though, lol. You win IN SPITE of using Lee, lol. It's an uphill battle, and it always feels like you have to vastly outplay your opponent to get the W.
... that all said, if you find him fun and enjoy fighting with style and needing an array of esoteric knowledge to win, Lee is your man! =D
TZMurakumo you're not fooling me :) about Lee not being that good anymore... I use Heihachi mainly still hoping for Anna to be a dlc. I think Lee has more tools that he gets credit for because I've been on the receiving end of what he's able to do, where my character lacks. He is a great counter hit hunting character and has great punishment nice to see u here
Yea, his punishment got better for sure with f+1+2 and 1,3:3:3. I feel like you have to be a lot riskier to get your damage than before, though (particularly in oki). He also got a bunch of other really weird and seemingly arbitrary frame nerfs, lol. Actually, one thing that annoys me now (regarding CH ability) is that collisions create counterhit. Before you could 2,2 at -1 and if they magic 4, you trade but that's it. If you trade from there now, you get juggled, lol.
I like Hei a lot now, too. Similarly, 7.0 felt like fighting uphill with him. I feel like he gained a lot in FR though, and he's a lot of fun to play.
Here's to hoping Anna releases for you sometime soon!
ONEDEADLYVENOM seriously! Anna was my main!
Delegirous Anna / heihachi/ devil kazuya were my mains in ttt1 since that I've never put in the 100% into tekken. I hated tekken 6, mixed feelings about ttt2, t7 I started loving the series again.
Your channel pushes me to broaden my choice just got a few of Darren korbs albums beautiful music. An awesome video
Thanks much. I think I'll have to check out your punishment guides, too.
I just love the music and the video... damn just perfect
Thanks for this. Helped me with alot of things Lee was eating me up with. The oki break down was 👌
9:13 Damn that's awesome.
Probably rarely optimal to use mist-trap as a wall ender but man, it looks so slick!
Less optimal, but look at that oki
Holy shit I ran into you, you fucking destroyed me lol
Nice vid sir. Excellent!
Another godly video, keep up the good work man, and ty :)
Thanks. I have about half the footage captured for an HMS video, but work starts up again in a couple of days and I have a ton of other things to catch up on. TBH, my biggest motivation for finishing videos is so I can delete the captures off my drive! (huge capture files) =P
Thank you so much for this.
Thanks. I hope it helps!
do you stream?? Would love to see your online matches
I don't stream yet because of region issues meaning I can't get online matches. At the moment, when I play, it's in person. I'm going to try deleting Tekken 7 and reinstalling to see if it will let me re-select my region/language. lol, if that works, I'll let you know and respond again here. =P
TZMurakumo great 👍
TZMurakumo great 👍
Thanks just got gimmicked from a good lee player good to know these options from now on
I love lee videos so much. I wonder if there will be tips coming up. Since you have given so much information regarding lee already with your past videos. Keep up the goodwork
There's still a lot to do--just a question of when I have to time and energy to complete each video, lol.
Very Good Song !
Yeah, I like Darren Korb's music a lot!
Excellent!
I main Lee and maaan are these helpful. Kudos!!!
You are too good with Lee.
lol, not really--I used to be better. I'm a very middling player right now, but as I start playing more again I hope I will get better. I think I play with Lee's tools well, but I took a long time off Tekken. At high levels, you're playing against our opponent's character and tools as much or more than you're focusing on your own character. I got to that point in BR, but barely played the last year of BR, played very, very little TTT2, and skipped T7 until Lee released. There are a lot of changes (and new characters) I have to catch up on learning to play against again, and until I can do that, I wouldn't call myself very good. =P
Did you actually put "Old Friends" as the background music? I love you even more
"Spine" and "She Shines" aswell? Your taste in music is as great as your taste in Tekken characters
Yes indeed! I picked up the music/games bundle for Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre on Steam... love the music!
Something about them felt like they would fit this video very well in particular. Only the best for mist traps! =D
Great vid man. I'm making an anti lee vid. I will post this in the Infobox..🖖
Just doing mist trap is impossible lol. You have any tips, I've performed it a few times.
Lots of practice, muscle memory, non-laggy environment (mostly don't bother online? lol)
TZMurakumo seriously... I think I just had practice mode up watching football one year and just did mist traps over and over until I started hitting them without paying attention... as for online... I don't know if I have hit one yet...
Great vid as always... how about Mist Illusion next?
We'll see. Work just started up again today, so some stuff might be a bit. I will probably also wait until new patch is deployed on home version (it's in arcade now) before I make more so that I'm recording the most recent version.
u r legend with lee 😱
I have subscribed master.
is there a way to cancel HMS fast enough so I can make it safe?
just like help me does I am having a problem with being save with Lee since TTT2 and some times losing in frame traps
also
I need to know the right notation and timing
B and any down direction work to cancel. Down directions cancel the animation more quickly. You can block in hitman, though. You can cancel to dash (qcff, or really just d/f~f,f) or backdash (technically bb from hitman exists, but I feel I get a quicker cancel and better dash with qcbb, or d/b~b,b). Remember that you have to block manually from HMS to block a hit--no autoguard.
If you're going to MS, 1~f,N is faster start-up, but f,N leads directly into the crouching part of MS, so if you're expecting a high, use the f,N version.
Thanks a lot! this is going to be very helpful for me :D
Glad to help. I should note, though, there is transition time into hitman from moves. On some moves it reduces frames to recovery, while on others it increases them (it's really random), so some moves can still be punished, and it's not something you want to always cancel to without thought--should be deliberate.
They made lee really good in this game didnt they? not complaining.
30:00 i thought lee could only land running 3 after wall standing 2,4
Who does mist trap any lmao
