  • A group of six union presidents spoke Monday at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where Kamala Harris will step into the spotlight not as a running mate but at the top of the ticket.
The speakers included Lee Saunders, president of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees; April Verrett, president of the Service Employees International Union; Brent Booker, general president of the Laborers’ International Union of North America; Kenneth W. Cooper, president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; Claude Cummings Jr., president of the Communications Workers of America; and Elizabeth Shuler, president of the AFL-CIO.
During the first day of the convention, delegates formally adopted a party platform. Later in the week, Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will formally accept their nominations as the party’s candidates.
