  • On 23 June 2000, ITN reported on the opening day of Glastonbury Festival - in particular on the number of people that had managed to hop the fence into Worthy Farm and get in for free. People were seen storming over the broken perimeter fence past the mounted security guards who looked strangely helpless in the situation. Elsewhere, ITN caught up with festival founder Michael Eavis. Speaking in front of the iconic pyramid stage, Eavis spoke of his continuing amazement at the popularity of the event 30 years on from its humble beginnings.

Jumped that fence 6 times back in the 90’s…. Miss you Glastonbury 🫶🏻

      It’s still doable mate.
Telescopic ladder, enter from the west side or south (less chance of dropping into restricted areas).
The challenge is loitering in the car park without getting caught

That old fence was brilliant. There was a couple of places where it crossed ditches and you could just walk under it. Either that or push it over.

As much fun, anarchic and rock n roll as it was jumping the fence, paying dodgy security and getting in for free........... It was exactly this which paved the way for today's festivals, 'superwall', photo on tickets and high security............. It is what it is but will never be again 😕☺️😎

But its only £300 a ticket?! Mater and pater would surely pop a few tickets in the glove compartment of the old porche and we can pop down to Szumerset for a few days n have drinks and some spliffy, yar?
    - many of us are now priced out of Glasto. Its like a fricken tory convention.

The fence is still easy and other methods exist.
Been going since 05, had a legit ticket 3-4 times.

'93 - '98. Paid for the first one, I think it was in the region of £43. After that the most i ever paid was a tenner to a crooked security gaurd who had a Manunian scroat working for him.😂

Middle class kids paying £360.00 for a basic ticket.....then telling the world about inclusiveness, and socialism is the only way forward...😂😂oh the hypocrisy

Highlight for me this year was the no borders graffiti picture of the world, while there’s an 8 mile long 4m high fence all the way around 🤣
The left really do know how to contradict their selves in the greatest of ways
My first time this year, 1 of the greatest places on earth, and up there with the best weeks of my life. I just don’t agree with the politics of 99.99% of the crowd.
      Shalom

Use to bunk in as a matter of tradition, but even now with adult money, I’ve tried in ever sale/resale and failed.
Still doesn’t stop me going 😉
