The reason for the rerelease was actually because that figure was going for around $120 on the after market. Hasbro slightly changed the packaging (as well as which left leg was included on the figure in packaging) in order to signal that it is the rerelease and to keep collectors from complaining that their rare releases were suddenly becoming less valuable,

The only difference I can see is the new one has an orange chest stripe, whereas the OG Chop has a yellow chest stripe. I like the orange one better. And I like the new VC CHopper best of all - he’s AWESOME!!!! I ended up painting my Black Series Chopper (which was a yellow stripe original release) to match the VC Chopper’s superior paint ops. I have a theory they are making a new Black Series Chopper like the VC one (ie with the ball jointed head, more realistic proportions like the live action droid instead of the cartoon the original was based on and had originally planned to release the new Chopper as part of the Ahsoka wave given this was his main “real life” appaearance. I think this is why they kept the Ahsoka release titled “Rebels” even though they changed the box art! Why bother changing that when nothing else change (apart from the orange chest stripe)? I think the new one either wasnt ready or they wanted to release the VC 3.75 first for the Ghost and a complete crew. Here’s hoping they keep all the cartoon Rebels Chopper’s excellent features (fold out dome arms, retractable middle leg, and including the extra matching leg, etc) but update the sculpt to match the VC one w/ ball jointed head, more of a neck to the dome, better colors and much better paint ops because it’s fantastic!!!

The only problem I have with the rerelease is the fact that the black eye wasn't painted all the way, they left off the paint that fills out the socket. I'm not sure why, but that bugs me so much seeing it in person, it made it look a lot cheaper.

Yes! I'm really disappointed that we didn't get a vibrant color scheme like the TVC version does, I totally agree with you!

The socket shouldn't be as dark as the lens itself, so you can fill it in easily with a mechanical pencil if you want =)

@@id0licious That's according to the Ahsoka show though, the figure is based on his rebels appearance. In rebels the socket and the lens are the same dark black color. Even if we're going by the Ahsoka show though, it was silver, not orange. They just left it unpainted.
I'm also an in box collector, so unfortunately modifying the figure isn't something I can do without opening it! If I can snag him on sale I don't think I'd mind, but 27 dollars is difficult to justify on him... especially after seeing how great the TVC version looks.
