Got a letter that I’m eligible but still waiting on the transfer stuff and next update. Plus, I should be getting the 20k forgiven. I’ve been telling every nurse I know, but they just dismissed it.

    1) I did not consolidate my loans until Dec post- med school grad. Can those 6 months of utilized Grace Period count with PSLF waiver?
    2) At the end of residency, I switched from IBR to REPAY (to bring the interest rate down). While I applied in Jan 2017, FedLoans didn't complete the process till end of May 2017. Thus Jan-May (5 months didn't count). This long processing is on THEM, not me! Can I get those 5 payments back under the PSLF waiver?

    If one’s loan is forgiven, how will this affect or help their credit score, if at all?

    • @celeste37083
      @celeste37083 2 года назад +2

      Great afternoon! It depends on how long you've had the loan, the amount of the loan, if you've made on-time payments, and what other types of credit you have (installment vs revolving, etc.). It will drop off of your report once it's done. If it is your oldest credit account it will likely lower your credit score until you continue on with other credit accounts.

    • @candacewalton9456
      @candacewalton9456 2 года назад +1

      @@celeste37083 this is exactly what I was thinking! So ultimately, it will hurt those in our community. I suppose there’s a trade off. Many still may not qualify for a home loan because of lack of credit accounts or variety… especially excluding the student loan.

    • @celeste37083
      @celeste37083 2 года назад +2

      @@candacewalton9456 I would not say "ultimately" because all factors hold different weight. Length/age of credit history is 15% of score while payment history is 35%. So knocking off an old account via forgiveness MAY lower, but the amount of lowering may be insignificant if every payment of all accounts has been on time because that's worth more than double the percentage of length of an account on your total score. Also, your total amount owed is worth 30% of your score. So, if your student loan amount is major, and it drops off, you no longer owe that amount. The lowered debt, overall, then helps more than the dropping of an older loan hurts.

      I'm no expert but I would expect this would be pretty accurate. Government "forgiveness" is just the government clearing money off the books on loans the federal government loaned out to people. Put it this way, Im person A (Govt), you're person B (Student), and there is a person C (Private lender). I can tell you that $20 I loaned you, you don't have to pay me back, we're good. But the money you borrowed from Person C, thats between ya'll, I can't tell you that you don't owe that person the money you borrowed from them. Thats basically the positions the government is in right now.

And remove all interest rates, increase the Pell Grant from a measly 6895 and make it a minimum of $20, 000 for a Max of up to 9 years so that people can go and get a sufficient degree. And not have to be in debt who is already low to medium income that's not over $65,000 a year.

    The biggest threat to everyone is UBI and debt forgiveness. Throw money to people who haven’t earned it, forgiveness to people that owe it. Money is worthless because it’s NOT REAL it’s printed and devalued every second of the day and now more people aren’t held accountable for their bad decisions and the creation of more money in circulation with few goods to purchase has created a massive problem!
